ਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਛਿ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਨਾਹੀ ਦਰੁ ਹੋਰੁ ॥
gur push dēkhiā nāhī dar hōr .
I have consulted the Guru, and I have seen that there is no other door than His.
ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਭਾਣੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਰਜਾਇ ॥
dukh sukh bhānai tisai rajāi .
Pain and pleasure reside in the Pleasure of His Will and His Command.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨੀਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੮॥੪॥
nānak nīch kahai liv lāi .8.4.
Nanak, the lowly, says embrace love for the Lord. ||8||4||
ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਤਿਆ ਨਹ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
haumai karatiā nah sukh hōi .
Acting in egotism, peace is not obtained.
ਮਨਮਤਿ ਝੂਠੀ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
manamat jhūthī sachā sōi .
The intellect of the mind is false; only the Lord is True.
ਸਗਲ ਬਿਗੂਤੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਦੋਇ ॥
sagal bigūtē bhāvai dōi .
All who love duality are ruined.
ਸੋ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
sō kamāvai dhur likhiā hōi .1.
People act as they are pre-ordained. ||1||
ਐਸਾ ਜਗੁ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਜੂਆਰੀ ॥
aisā jag dēkhiā jūārī .
I have seen the world to be such a gambler;
ਸਭਿ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਗੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sabh sukh māgai nām bisārī .1. rahāu .
all beg for peace, but they forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਅਦਿਸਟੁ ਦਿਸੈ ਤਾ ਕਹਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
adisat disai tā kahiā jāi .
If the Unseen Lord could be seen, then He could be described.
ਬਿਨੁ ਦੇਖੇ ਕਹਣਾ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
bin dēkhē kahanā birathā jāi .
Without seeing Him, all descriptions are useless.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੀਸੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
guramukh dīsai sahaj subhāi .
The Gurmukh sees Him with intuitive ease.
ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
sēvā surat ēk liv lāi .2.
So serve the One Lord, with loving awareness. ||2||
ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਂਗਤ ਦੁਖੁ ਆਗਲ ਹੋਇ ॥
sukh mānhgat dukh āgal hōi .
People beg for peace, but they receive severe pain.
ਸਗਲ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਹਾਰੁ ਪਰੋਇ ॥
sagal vikārī hār parōi .
They are all weaving a wreath of corruption.
ਏਕ ਬਿਨਾ ਝੂਠੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
ēk binā jhūthē mukat n hōi .
You are false - without the One, there is no liberation.
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਦੇਖੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥
kar kar karatā dēkhai sōi .3.
The Creator created the creation, and He watches over it. ||3||
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
trisanā agan sabad bujhāē .
The fire of desire is quenched by the Word of the Shabad.
ਦੂਜਾ ਭਰਮੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥
dūjā bharam sahaj subhāē .
Duality and doubt are automatically eliminated.
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
guramatī nām ridai vasāē .
Following the Guru's Teachings, the Naam abides in the heart.
ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ॥੪॥
sāchī bānī har gun gāē .4.
Through the True Word of His Bani, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||
ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਚੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਾਉ ॥
tan mah sāchō guramukh bhāu .
The True Lord abides within the body of that Gurmukh who enshrines love for Him.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਿਜ ਠਾਉ ॥
nām binā nāhī nij thāu .
Without the Naam, none obtain their own place.
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਰਾਇਣ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਰਾਉ ॥
prēm parāin prītam rāu .
The Beloved Lord King is dedicated to love.
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਨਾਉ ॥੫॥
nadar karē tā būjhai nāu .5.
If He bestows His Glance of Grace, then we realize His Name. ||5||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਰਬ ਜੰਜਾਲਾ ॥
māiā mōh sarab janjālā .
Emotional attachment to Maya is total entanglement.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕੁਚੀਲ ਕੁਛਿਤ ਬਿਕਰਾਲਾ ॥
manamukh kuchīl kushit bikarālā .
The self-willed manmukh is filthy, cursed and dreadful.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਚੂਕੈ ਜੰਜਾਲਾ ॥
satigur sēvē chūkai janjālā .
Serving the True Guru, these entanglements are ended.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਲਾ ॥੬॥
anmrit nām sadā sukh nālā .6.
In the Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam, you shall abide in lasting peace. ||6||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
guramukh būjhai ēk liv lāē .
The Gurmukhs understand the One Lord, and enshrine love for Him.
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
nij ghar vāsai sāch samāē .
They dwell in the home of their own inner beings, and merge in the True Lord.
ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ॥
janman maranā thāk rahāē .
The cycle of birth and death is ended.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੭॥
pūrē gur tē ih mat pāē .7.
This understanding is obtained from the Perfect Guru. ||7||
ਕਥਨੀ ਕਥਉ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਓਰੁ ॥
kathanī kathau n āvai ōr .
Speaking the speech, there is no end to it.
