ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

ਅਗਲੇ ਮੁਏ ਸਿ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਰੇ ॥
agalē muē s pāshai parē .
Those who have died have been forgotten.
ਜੋ ਉਬਰੇ ਸੇ ਬੰਧਿ ਲਕੁ ਖਰੇ ॥
jō ubarē sē bandh lak kharē .
Those who survive have fastened their belts.
ਜਿਹ ਧੰਧੇ ਮਹਿ ਓਇ ਲਪਟਾਏ ॥
jih dhandhē mah ōi lapatāē .
They are busily occupied in their affairs;
ਉਨ ਤੇ ਦੁਗੁਣ ਦਿੜੀ ਉਨ ਮਾਏ ॥੧॥
un tē dugun dirī un māē .1.
they cling twice as hard to Maya. ||1||
ਓਹ ਬੇਲਾ ਕਛੁ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
ōh bēlā kash chīt n āvai .
No one thinks of the time of death;
ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇ ਤਾਹੂ ਲਪਟਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
binas jāi tāhū lapatāvai .1. rahāu .
people grasp to hold that which shall pass away. ||1||Pause||
ਆਸਾ ਬੰਧੀ ਮੂਰਖ ਦੇਹ ॥
āsā bandhī mūrakh dēh .
The fools - their bodies are bound down by desires.
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲਪਟਿਓ ਅਸਨੇਹ ॥
kām krōdh lapatiō asanēh .
They are mired in sexual desire, anger and attachment;
ਸਿਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਠਾਢੋ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ॥
sir ūpar thādhō dharam rāi .
the Righteous Judge of Dharma stands over their heads.
ਮੀਠੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਖਾਇ ॥੨॥
mīthī kar kar bikhiā khāi .2.
Believing it to be sweet, the fools eat poison. ||2||
ਹਉ ਬੰਧਉ ਹਉ ਸਾਧਉ ਬੈਰੁ ॥ ਹਮਰੀ ਭੂਮਿ ਕਉਣੁ ਘਾਲੈ ਪੈਰੁ ॥
hau bandhau hau sādhau bair . hamarī bhūm kaun ghālai pair .
They say, "I shall tie up my enemy, and I shall cut him down. Who dares to set foot upon my land?
ਹਉ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਹਉ ਚਤੁਰੁ ਸਿਆਣਾ ॥
hau pandit hau chatur siānā .
I am learned, I am clever and wise."
ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ਨ ਬੁਝੈ ਬਿਗਾਨਾ ॥੩॥
karanaihār n bujhai bigānā .3.
The ignorant ones do not recognize their Creator. ||3||
ਅਪੁਨੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
apunī gat mit āpē jānai .
The Lord Himself knows His Own state and condition.
ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਕਿਆ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਨੈ ॥
kiā kō kahai kiā ākh vakhānai .
What can anyone say? How can anyone describe Him?
ਜਿਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹਿ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਗਨਾ ॥
jit jit lāvah tit tit laganā .
Whatever He attaches us to - to that we are attached.
ਅਪਨਾ ਭਲਾ ਸਭ ਕਾਹੂ ਮੰਗਨਾ ॥੪॥
apanā bhalā sabh kāhū manganā .4.
Everyone begs for their own good. ||4||
ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ॥
sabh kish tērā tūn karanaihār .
Everything is Yours; You are the Creator Lord.
ਅੰਤੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
ant nāhī kish pārāvār .
You have no end or limitation.
ਦਾਸ ਅਪਨੇ ਕਉ ਦੀਜੈ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
dās apanē kau dījai dān .
Please give this gift to Your servant,
ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੫॥੯॥੭੮॥
kabahū n visarai nānak nām .5.9.78.
that Nanak might never forget the Naam. ||5||9||78||
