Shalok, Second Mehl:
ਦੀਖਿਆ ਆਖਿ ਬੁਝਾਇਆ ਸਿਫਤੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮੇਉ ॥
dīkhiā ākh bujhāiā siphatī sach samēu .
Those who have accepted the Guru's Teachings, and who have found the path, remain absorbed in the Praises of the True Lord.
ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਕਿਆ ਉਪਦੇਸੀਐ ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਉ ॥੧॥
tin kau kiā upadēsīai jin gur nānak dēu .1.
What teachings can be imparted to those who have the Divine Guru Nanak as their Guru? ||1||

mah 1 .
First Mehl:
ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
āp bujhāē sōī būjhai .
We understand the Lord only when He Himself inspires us to understand Him.
ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਸੁਝਾਏ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
jis āp sujhāē tis sabh kish sūjhai .
He alone knows everything, unto whom the Lord Himself gives knowledge.
ਕਹਿ ਕਹਿ ਕਥਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਲੂਝੈ ॥
kah kah kathanā māiā lūjhai .
One may talk and preach and give sermons but still yearn after Maya.
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਸਗਲ ਕਰੇ ਆਕਾਰ ॥
hukamī sagal karē ākār .
The Lord, by the Hukam of His Command, has created the entire creation.
ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਰਬ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥
āpē jānai sarab vīchār .
He Himself knows the inner nature of all.
ਅਖਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਖਿਓ ਆਪਿ ॥
akhar nānak akhiō āp .
O Nanak, He Himself uttered the Word.
ਲਹੈ ਭਰਾਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਦਾਤਿ ॥੨॥
lahai bharāt hōvai jis dāt .2.
Doubt departs from one who receives this gift. ||2||

Pauree:
ਹਉ ਢਾਢੀ ਵੇਕਾਰੁ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
hau dhādhī vēkār kārai lāiā .
I was a minstrel, out of work, when the Lord took me into His service.
ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਹੈ ਕੈ ਵਾਰ ਧੁਰਹੁ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ॥
rāt dihai kai vār dhurah phuramāiā .
To sing His Praises day and night, He gave me His Order, right from the start.
ਢਾਢੀ ਸਚੈ ਮਹਲਿ ਖਸਮਿ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ ॥
dhādhī sachai mahal khasam bulāiā .
My Lord and Master has summoned me, His minstrel, to the True Mansion of His Presence.
ਸਚੀ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਪੜਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
sachī siphat sālāh kaparā pāiā .
He has dressed me in the robes of His True Praise and Glory.
ਸਚਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਆਇਆ ॥
sachā anmrit nām bhōjan āiā .
The Ambrosial Nectar of the True Name has become my food.
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਖਾਧਾ ਰਜਿ ਤਿਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
guramatī khādhā raj tin sukh pāiā .
Those who follow the Guru's Teachings, who eat this food and are satisfied, find peace.
ਢਾਢੀ ਕਰੇ ਪਸਾਉ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਜਾਇਆ ॥
dhādhī karē pasāu sabad vajāiā .
His minstrel spreads His Glory, singing and vibrating the Word of His Shabad.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨੭॥ ਸੁਧੁ
nānak sach sālāh pūrā pāiā .27. sudh
O Nanak, praising the True Lord, I have obtained His Perfection. ||27||Sudh||
