ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਕਾਲੁ ਵਿਧਉਸਿਆ ॥
sachā sabad bīchār kāl vidhausiā .
Reflecting on the True Word of the Shabad, death is overcome.
ਢਾਢੀ ਕਥੇ ਅਕਥੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
dhādhī kathē akath sabad savāriā .
Speaking the Unspoken Speech of the Lord, one is adorned with the Word of His Shabad.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਣ ਗਹਿ ਰਾਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮਿਲੇ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ॥੨੩॥
nānak gun gah rās har jīu milē piāriā .23.
Nanak holds tight to the Treasure of Virtue, and meets with the Dear, Beloved Lord. ||23||

ਮਾਰੂ ਮੀਹਿ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਆ ਅਗੀ ਲਹੈ ਨ ਭੁਖ ॥
mārū mīh n tripatiā agī lahai n bhukh .
The desert is not satisfied by rain, and the fire is not quenched by desire.
ਰਾਜਾ ਰਾਜਿ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਆ ਸਾਇਰ ਭਰੇ ਕਿਸੁਕ ॥
rājā rāj n tripatiā sāir bharē kisuk .
The king is not satisfied with his kingdom, and the oceans are full, but still they thirst for more.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਕੇਤੀ ਪੁਛਾ ਪੁਛ ॥੧॥
nānak sachē nām kī kētī pushā push .1.
O Nanak, how many times must I seek and ask for the True Name? ||1||

ਨਿਹਫਲੰ ਤਸਿ ਜਨਮਸਿ ਜਾਵਤੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਨ ਬਿੰਦਤੇ ॥
nihaphalan tas janamas jāvat braham n bindatē .
Life is useless, as long as one does not know the Lord God.
ਸਾਗਰੰ ਸੰਸਾਰਸਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਤਰਹਿ ਕੇ ॥
sāgaran sansāras gur parasādī tarah kē .
Only a few cross over the world-ocean, by Guru's Grace.
ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਹੈ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
karan kāran samarath hai kah nānak bīchār .
The Lord is the All-powerful Cause of causes, says Nanak after deep deliberation.
ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕਰਤੇ ਵਸਿ ਹੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਕਲ ਰਖੀ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
kāran karatē vas hai jin kal rakhī dhār .2.
The creation is subject to the Creator, who sustains it by His Almighty Power. ||2||

ਖਸਮੈ ਕੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ਢਾਢੀ ਵਸਿਆ ॥
khasamai kai darabār dhādhī vasiā .
In the Court of the Lord and Master, His minstrels dwell.
ਸਚਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਕਲਾਣਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਵਿਗਸਿਆ ॥
sachā khasam kalān kamal vigasiā .
Singing the Praises of their True Lord and Master, the lotuses of their hearts have blossomed forth.
ਖਸਮਹੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇ ਮਨਹੁ ਰਹਸਿਆ ॥
khasamah pūrā pāi manah rahasiā .
Obtaining their Perfect Lord and Master, their minds are transfixed with ecstasy.
ਦੁਸਮਨ ਕਢੇ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਜਣ ਸਰਸਿਆ ॥
dusaman kadhē mār sajan sarasiā .
Their enemies have been driven out and subdued, and their friends are very pleased.
ਸਚਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸਚਾ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਦਸਿਆ ॥
sachā satigur sēvan sachā mārag dasiā .
Those who serve the Truthful True Guru are shown the True Path.
