ਸਲੋਕ ਮਹਲਾ ੨ ॥

Shalok, Second Mehl:
ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਕੈਸਾ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
tis siu kaisā bōlanā j āpē jānai jān .
How can we speak of Him? Only He knows Himself.
ਚੀਰੀ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਨਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
chīrī jā kī nā phirai sāhib sō paravān .
His decree cannot be challenged; He is our Supreme Lord and Master.
ਚੀਰੀ ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਚਲਣਾ ਮੀਰ ਮਲਕ ਸਲਾਰ ॥
chīrī jis kī chalanā mīr malak salār .
By His Decree, even kings, nobles and commanders must step down.
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਸਾਈ ਭਲੀ ਕਾਰ ॥
jō tis bhāvai nānakā sāī bhalī kār .
Whatever is pleasing to His Will, O Nanak, is a good deed.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾ ਚੀਰੀ ਚਲਣਾ ਹਥਿ ਤਿਨ੍ਹਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
jinhā chīrī chalanā hath tinhā kish nāh .
By His Decree, we walk; nothing rests in our hands.
ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕਾ ਫੁਰਮਾਣੁ ਹੋਇ ਉਠੀ ਕਰਲੈ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
sāhib kā phuramān hōi uthī karalai pāh .
When the Order comes from our Lord and Master, all must rise up and take to the road.
ਜੇਹਾ ਚੀਰੀ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤੇਹਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
jēhā chīrī likhiā tēhā hukam kamāh .
As His Decree is issued, so is His Command obeyed.
ਘਲੇ ਆਵਹਿ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਸਦੇ ਉਠੀ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
ghalē āvah nānakā sadē uthī jāh .1.
Those who are sent, come, O Nanak; when they are called back, they depart and go. ||1||

Second Mehl:
ਸਿਫਤਿ ਜਿਨਾ ਕਉ ਬਖਸੀਐ ਸੇਈ ਪੋਤੇਦਾਰ ॥
siphat jinā kau bakhasīai sēī pōtēdār .
Those whom the Lord blesses with His Praises, are the true keepers of the treasure.
ਕੁੰਜੀ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਦਿਤੀਆ ਤਿਨ੍ਹਾ ਮਿਲੇ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
kunjī jin kau ditīā tinhā milē bhandār .
Those who are blessed with the key - they alone receive the treasure.
ਜਹ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ਹੂ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਕਲਹਿ ਤੇ ਕੀਅਹਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
jah bhandārī hū gun nikalah tē kīah paravān .
That treasure, from which virtue wells up - that treasure is approved.
ਨਦਰਿ ਤਿਨ੍ਹਾ ਕਉ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੨॥
nadar tinhā kau nānakā nām jinhā nīsān .2.
Those who are blessed by His Glance of Grace, O Nanak, bear the Insignia of the Naam. ||2||

Pauree:
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਸੁਣਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
nām niranjan niramalā suniai sukh hōī .
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is immaculate and pure; hearing it, peace is obtained.
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈਐ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
sun sun mann vasāīai būjhai jan kōī .
Listening and hearing, It is enshrined in the mind; how rare is that humble being who realizes it.
ਬਹਦਿਆ ਉਠਦਿਆ ਨ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
bahadiā uthadiā n visarai sāchā sach sōī .
Sitting down and standing up, I shall never forget Him, the Truest of the true.
ਭਗਤਾ ਕਉ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਮੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
bhagatā kau nām adhār hai nāmē sukh hōī .
His devotees have the Support of His Name; in His Name, they find peace.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਈ ॥੫॥
nānak man tan rav rahiā guramukh har sōī .5.
O Nanak, He permeates and pervades mind and body; He is the Lord, the Guru's Word. ||5||
