ਸਾਰਗ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Saarang, Fifth Mehl:
ਰੇ ਮੂੜ੍ਹੇ ਤੂ ਕਿਉ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਅਬ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
rē mūrhē tū kiu simarat ab nāhī .
You fool, why are you not meditating on the Lord now?
ਨਰਕ ਘੋਰ ਮਹਿ ਉਰਧ ਤਪੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
narak ghōr mah uradh tap karatā nimakh nimakh gun gānhhī .1. rahāu .
In the awful hell of the fire of the womb, you did penance, upside-down; each and every instant, you sang His Glorious Praises. ||1||Pause||
ਅਨਿਕ ਜਨਮ ਭ੍ਰਮਤੌ ਹੀ ਆਇਓ ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੁਲਭਾਹੀ ॥
anik janam bhramatau hī āiō mānas janam dulabhāhī .
You wandered through countless incarnations, until finally you attained this priceless human birth.
ਗਰਭ ਜੋਨਿ ਛੋਡਿ ਜਉ ਨਿਕਸਿਓ ਤਉ ਲਾਗੋ ਅਨ ਠਾਂਹੀ ॥੧॥
garabh jōn shōd jau nikasiō tau lāgō an thānhhī .1.
Leaving the womb, you were born, and when you came out, you became attached to other places. ||1||
ਕਰਹਿ ਬੁਰਾਈ ਠਗਾਈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਹੀ ॥
karah burāī thagāī din rain nihaphal karam kamāhī .
You practiced evil and fraud day and night, and did useless deeds.
ਕਣੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੁਹ ਗਾਹਣ ਲਾਗੇ ਧਾਇ ਧਾਇ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਂਹੀ ॥੨॥
kan nāhī tuh gāhan lāgē dhāi dhāi dukh pānhhī .2.
You thrash the straw, but it has no wheat; running around and hurrying, you obtain only pain. ||2||
ਮਿਥਿਆ ਸੰਗਿ ਕੂੜਿ ਲਪਟਾਇਓ ਉਰਝਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਕੁਸਮਾਂਹੀ ॥
mithiā sang kūr lapatāiō urajh pariō kusamānhhī .
The false person is attached to falsehood; he is entangled with transitory things.
ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਜਬ ਪਕਰਸਿ ਬਵਰੇ ਤਉ ਕਾਲ ਮੁਖਾ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਹੀ ॥੩॥
dharam rāi jab pakaras bavarē tau kāl mukhā uth jāhī .3.
And when the Righteous Judge of Dharma seizes you, O madman, you shall arise and depart with your face blackened. ||3||
ਸੋ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਲਿਖਾਂਹੀ ॥
sō miliā jō prabhū milāiā jis masatak lēkh likhānhhī .
He alone meets with God, whom God Himself meets, by such pre-ordained destiny written on his forehead.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ ਜਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਜੋ ਅਲਿਪ ਰਹੇ ਮਨ ਮਾਂਹੀ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੬॥
kah nānak tinh jan balihārī jō alip rahē man mānhhī .4.2.16.
Says Nanak, I am a sacrifice to that humble being, who remains unattached within his mind. ||4||2||16||
