Saarang, Fifth Mehl:
ਬਿਖਈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਇਵ ਹੀ ਗੁਦਾਰੈ ॥
bikhaī din rain iv hī gudārai .
The corrupt person passes his days and nights uselessly.
ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਨ ਭਜੈ ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਮਾਤਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਜੂਐ ਜਿਉ ਹਾਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gōbind n bhajai ahanbudh mātā janam jūai jiu hārai .1. rahāu .
He does not vibrate and meditate on the Lord of the Universe; he is intoxicated with egotistical intellect. He loses his life in the gamble. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਤਿਸ ਸਿਉ ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਹਿਤਕਾਰੈ ॥
nām amōlā prīt n tis siu par nindā hitakārai .
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is priceless, but he is not in love with it. He loves only to slander others.
ਛਾਪਰੁ ਬਾਂਧਿ ਸਵਾਰੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਣ ਕੋ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਪਾਵਕੁ ਜਾਰੈ ॥੧॥
shāpar bānhdh savārai trin kō duārai pāvak jārai .1.
Weaving the grass, he builds his house of straw. At the door, he builds a fire. ||1||
ਕਾਲਰ ਪੋਟ ਉਠਾਵੈ ਮੂੰਡਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਡਾਰੈ ॥
kālar pōt uthāvai mūndah anmrit man tē dārai .
He carries a load of sulfur on his head, and drives the Ambrosial Nectar out of his mind.
ਓਢੈ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਕਾਜਰ ਮਹਿ ਪਰਿਆ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਝਾਰੈ ॥੨॥
ōdhai basatr kājar mah pariā bahur bahur phir jhārai .2.
Wearing his good clothes, the mortal falls into the coal-pit; again and again, he tries to shake it off. ||2||
ਕਾਟੈ ਪੇਡੁ ਡਾਲ ਪਰਿ ਠਾਢੌ ਖਾਇ ਖਾਇ ਮੁਸਕਾਰੈ ॥
kātai pēd dāl par thādhau khāi khāi musakārai .
Standing on the branch, eating and eating and smiling, he cuts down the tree.
ਗਿਰਿਓ ਜਾਇ ਰਸਾਤਲਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਛਿਟੀ ਛਿਟੀ ਸਿਰ ਭਾਰੈ ॥੩॥
giriō jāi rasātal pariō shitī shitī sir bhārai .3.
He falls down head-first and is shattered into bits and pieces. ||3||
ਨਿਰਵੈਰੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਵੈਰੁ ਰਚਾਏ ਪਹੁਚਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਗਵਾਰੈ ॥
niravairai sang vair rachāē pahuch n sakai gavārai .
He bears vengeance against the Lord who is free of vengeance. The fool is not up to the task.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੈ ॥੪॥੧੦॥
kah nānak santan kā rākhā pārabraham nirankārai .4.10.
Says Nanak, the Saving Grace of the Saints is the Formless, Supreme Lord God. ||4||10||
