ਕਰਹਿ ਸੋਮ ਪਾਕੁ ਹਿਰਹਿ ਪਰ ਦਰਬਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਝੂਠ ਗੁਮਾਨ ॥
karah sōm pāk hirah par darabā antar jhūth gumān .
The mortal eats the food which he has carefully prepared, and then steals the wealth of others. His inner being is filled with falsehood and pride.
ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਦ ਕੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਬਿਆਪੇ ਮਨ ਕੈ ਮਾਨ ॥੨॥
sāsatr bēd kī bidh nahī jānah biāpē man kai mān .2.
He knows nothing of the Vedas or the Shaastras; his mind is gripped by pride. ||2||
ਸੰਧਿਆ ਕਾਲ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਵਰਤਾ ਜਿਉ ਸਫਰੀ ਦੰਫਾਨ ॥
sandhiā kāl karah sabh varatā jiu sapharī danphān .
He says his evening prayers, and observes all the fasts, but this is all just a show.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਊਝੜਿ ਪਾਏ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਸਭਿ ਕਰਮਾਨ ॥੩॥
prabhū bhulāē ūjhar pāē nihaphal sabh karamān .3.
God made him stray from the path, and sent him into the wilderness. All his actions are useless. ||3||
ਸੋ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸੋ ਬੈਸਨੌ ਪੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥
sō giānī sō baisanau parhiā jis karī kripā bhagavān .
He alone is a spiritual teacher, and he alone is a devotee of Vishnu and a scholar, whom the Lord God blesses with His Grace.
ਓੁਨਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਉਧਰਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਸ੍ਵਾਨ ॥੪॥
ōn satigur sēv param pad pāiā udhariā sagal bisvān .4.
Serving the True Guru, he obtains the supreme status and saves the whole world. ||4||
ਕਿਆ ਹਮ ਕਥਹ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਥਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਣਹ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਬੋੁਲਾਨ ॥
kiā ham kathah kish kath nahī jānah prabh bhāvai tivai bōlān .
What can I say? I don't know what to say. As God wills, so do I speak.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਇਕ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਇਓ ਸਰਾਨ ॥੫॥੨॥
sādhasangat kī dhūr ik mānhgau jan nānak paiō sarān .5.2.
I ask only for the dust of the feet of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. Servant Nanak seeks their Sanctuary. ||5||2||
ਸਾਰਗ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Saarang, Fifth Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਜਾਨ ॥
har jīu antarajāmī jān .
The Dear Lord is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.
ਕਰਤ ਬੁਰਾਈ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਤੇ ਛਪਾਈ ਸਾਖੀ ਭੂਤ ਪਵਾਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
karat burāī mānukh tē shapāī sākhī bhūt pavān .1. rahāu .
The mortal does evil deeds, and hides from others, but like the air, the Lord is present everywhere. ||1||Pause||
ਬੈਸਨੌ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤ ਖਟ ਕਰਮਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭ ਜੂਠਾਨ ॥
baisanau nām karat khat karamā antar lōbh jūthān .
You call yourself a devotee of Vishnu and you practice the six rituals, but your inner being is polluted with greed.
ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਤੇ ਡੂਬੇ ਸਭ ਅਗਿਆਨ ॥੧॥
sant sabhā kī nindā karatē dūbē sabh agiān .1.
Those who slander the Society of the Saints, shall all be drowned in their ignorance. ||1||
