ਜਾ ਕੈ ਕੀਨ੍ਹੈ ਹੋਤ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
jā kai kīnhai hōt bikār .
He gathers up that which brings corruption;
ਸੇ ਛੋਡਿ ਚਲਿਆ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਗਵਾਰ ॥੫॥
sē shōd chaliā khin mah gavār .5.
leaving them, the fool must depart in an instant. ||5||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਭਰਮਿਆ ॥
māiā mōh bah bharamiā .
He wanders in attachment to Maya.
ਕਿਰਤ ਰੇਖ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਮਿਆ ॥
kirat rēkh kar karamiā .
He acts in accordance with the karma of his past actions.
ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਆਪਿ ॥
karanaihār alipat āp .
Only the Creator Himself remains detached.
ਨਹੀ ਲੇਪੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੁੰਨ ਪਾਪਿ ॥੬॥
nahī lēp prabh punn pāp .6.
God is not affected by virtue or vice. ||6||
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
rākh lēh gōbind daiāl .
Please save me, O Merciful Lord of the Universe!
ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ॥
tērī saran pūran kripāl .
I seek Your Sanctuary, O Perfect Compassionate Lord.
ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀ ਠਾਉ ॥
tujh bin dūjā nahī thāu .
Without You, I have no other place of rest.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਹੁ ਨਾਉ ॥੭॥
kar kirapā prabh dēh nāu .7.
Please take pity on me, God, and bless me with Your Name. ||7||
ਤੂ ਕਰਤਾ ਤੂ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
tū karatā tū karanahār .
You are the Creator, and You are the Doer.
ਤੂ ਊਚਾ ਤੂ ਬਹੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
tū ūchā tū bah apār .
You are High and Exalted, and You are totally Infinite.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਲੜਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
kar kirapā lar lēh lāi .
Please be merciful, and attach me to the hem of Your robe.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਇ ॥੮॥੨॥
nānak dās prabh kī saranāi .8.2.

ਅਨਿਕ ਜਨਮ ਭ੍ਰਮੇ ਜੋਨਿ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
anik janam bhramē jōn māh .
The mortal wanders in reincarnation through countless lifetimes.
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਰਕਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
har simaran bin narak pāh .
Without meditating in remembrance on the Lord, he falls into hell.
ਭਗਤਿ ਬਿਹੂਨਾ ਖੰਡ ਖੰਡ ॥
bhagat bihūnā khand khand .
Without devotional worship, he is cut apart into pieces.
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਜਮੁ ਦੇਤ ਡੰਡ ॥੧॥
bin būjhē jam dēt dand .1.
Without understanding, he is punished by the Messenger of Death. ||1||
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਜਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਮੀਤ ॥
gōbind bhajah mērē sadā mīt .
Meditate and vibrate forever on the Lord of the Universe, O my friend.
ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦ ਕਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sāch sabad kar sadā prīt .1. rahāu .
Love forever the True Word of the Shabad. ||1||Pause||
ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਨ ਆਵਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਕਾਜ ॥
santōkh n āvat kahūn kāj .
Contentment does not come by any endeavors.
ਧੂੰਮ ਬਾਦਰ ਸਭਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਾਜ ॥
dhūnm bādar sabh māiā sāj .
All the show of Maya is just a cloud of smoke.
ਪਾਪ ਕਰੰਤੌ ਨਹ ਸੰਗਾਇ ॥
pāp karantau nah sangāi .
The mortal does not hesitate to commit sins.
ਬਿਖੁ ਕਾ ਮਾਤਾ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
bikh kā mātā āvai jāi .2.
Intoxicated with poison, he comes and goes in reincarnation. ||2||
ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਬਧੇ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
hau hau karat badhē bikār .
Acting in egotism and self-conceit, his corruption only increases.
ਮੋਹ ਲੋਭ ਡੂਬੌ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥
mōh lōbh dūbau sansār .
The world is drowning in attachment and greed.
ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਮਨੁ ਵਸਿ ਕੀਆ ॥
kām krōdh man vas kīā .
Sexual desire and anger hold the mind in its power.
ਸੁਪਨੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਹਰਿ ਲੀਆ ॥੩॥
supanai nām n har līā .3.
Even in his dreams, he does not chant the Lord's Name. ||3||
ਕਬ ਹੀ ਰਾਜਾ ਕਬ ਮੰਗਨਹਾਰੁ ॥
kab hī rājā kab manganahār .
Sometimes he is a king, and sometimes he is a beggar.
ਦੂਖ ਸੂਖ ਬਾਧੌ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥
dūkh sūkh bādhau sansār .
The world is bound by pleasure and pain.
ਮਨ ਉਧਰਣ ਕਾ ਸਾਜੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
man udharan kā sāj nāh .
The mortal makes no arrangements to save himself.
ਪਾਪ ਬੰਧਨ ਨਿਤ ਪਉਤ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੪॥
pāp bandhan nit paut jāh .4.
The bondage of sin continues to hold him. ||4||
ਈਠ ਮੀਤ ਕੋਊ ਸਖਾ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
īth mīt kōū sakhā nāh .
He has no beloved friends or companions.
ਆਪਿ ਬੀਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਖਾਂਹਿ ॥
āp bīj āpē hī khānhh .
He himself eats what he himself plants.
