Basant, First Mehl:
ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਅਧੁਲੀ ਕਾਰ ॥
dubidhā duramat adhulī kār .
In duality and evil-mindedness, the mortal acts blindly.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭਰਮੈ ਮਝਿ ਗੁਬਾਰ ॥੧॥
manamukh bharamai majh gubār .1.
The self-willed manmukh wanders, lost in the darkness. ||1||
ਮਨੁ ਅੰਧੁਲਾ ਅੰਧੁਲੀ ਮਤਿ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
man andhulā andhulī mat lāgai .
The blind man follows blind advice.
ਗੁਰ ਕਰਣੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur karanī bin bharam n bhāgai .1. rahāu .
Unless one takes the Guru's Way, his doubt is not dispelled. ||1||Pause||
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥
manamukh andhulē guramat n bhāī .
The manmukh is blind; he does not like the Guru's Teachings.
ਪਸੂ ਭਏ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥
pasū bhaē abhimān n jāī .2.
He has become a beast; he cannot get rid of his egotistical pride. ||2||
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
lakh chaurāsīh jant upāē .
God created 8.4 million species of beings.
ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਣੇ ਸਿਰਜਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੩॥
mērē thākur bhānē siraj samāē .3.
My Lord and Master, by the Pleasure of His Will, creates and destroys them. ||3||
ਸਗਲੀ ਭੂਲੈ ਨਹੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਚਾਰੁ ॥
sagalī bhūlai nahī sabad achār .
All are deluded and confused, without the Word of the Shabad and good conduct.
ਸੋ ਸਮਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
sō samajhai jis gur karatār .4.
He alone is instructed in this, who is blessed by the Guru, the Creator. ||4||
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਾਕਰ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਣੇ ॥
gur kē chākar thākur bhānē .
The Guru's servants are pleasing to our Lord and Master.
ਬਖਸਿ ਲੀਏ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਮ ਕਾਣੇ ॥੫॥
bakhas līē nāhī jam kānē .5.
The Lord forgives them, and they no longer fear the Messenger of Death. ||5||
ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਏਕੋ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
jin kai hiradai ēkō bhāiā .
Those who love the One Lord with all their heart
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
āpē mēlē bharam chukāiā .6.
- He dispels their doubts and unites them with Himself. ||6||
ਬੇਮੁਹਤਾਜੁ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
bēmuhatāj bēant apārā .
God is Independent, Endless and Infinite.
ਸਚਿ ਪਤੀਜੈ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰਾ ॥੭॥
sach patījai karanaihārā .7.
The Creator Lord is pleased with Truth. ||7||
ਨਾਨਕ ਭੂਲੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਮਝਾਵੈ ॥
nānak bhūlē gur samajhāvai .
O Nanak, the Guru instructs the mistaken soul.
ਏਕੁ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਟਿਕਾਵੈ ॥੮॥੬॥
ēk dikhāvai sāch tikāvai .8.6.
He implants the Truth within him, and shows him the One Lord. ||8||6||
