ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਹਿ ਆਪੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
gur sabad bīchārah āp jāi .
Contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and be rid of your ego.
ਸਾਚ ਜੋਗੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਆਇ ॥੮॥
sāch jōg man vasai āi .8.
True Yoga shall come to dwell in your mind. ||8||
ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
jin jīu pind ditā tis chētah nāh .
He blessed you with body and soul, but you do not even think of Him.
ਮੜੀ ਮਸਾਣੀ ਮੂੜੇ ਜੋਗੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੯॥
marī masānī mūrē jōg nāh .9.
You fool! Visiting graves and cremation grounds is not Yoga. ||9||
ਗੁਣ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਭਲੀ ਬਾਣਿ ॥
gun nānak bōlai bhalī bān .
Nanak chants the sublime, glorious Bani of the Word.
ਤੁਮ ਹੋਹੁ ਸੁਜਾਖੇ ਲੇਹੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ॥੧੦॥੫॥
tum hōh sujākhē lēh pashān .10.5.
Understand it, and appreciate it. ||10||5||
ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਇਕ ਤੁਕੀਆ ॥
basant mahalā 1 ik tukīā .
Basant, First Mehl, Ik-Tukee:
ਮਤੁ ਭਸਮ ਅੰਧੂਲੇ ਗਰਬਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
mat bhasam andhūlē garab jāh .
Do not make such a show of rubbing ashes on your body.
ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਾਗੇ ਜੋਗੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
in bidh nāgē jōg nāh .1.
O naked Yogi, this is not the way of Yoga! ||1||
ਮੂੜ੍ਹੇ ਕਾਹੇ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਓ ਤੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ॥
mūrhē kāhē bisāriō tai rām nām .
You fool! How can you have forgotten the Lord's Name?
ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਆਵੈ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ant kāl tērai āvai kām .1. rahāu .
At the very last moment, it and it alone shall be of any use to you. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਛਿ ਤੁਮ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
gur pūsh tum karah bīchār .
Consult the Guru, reflect and think it over.
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਸਾਰਿਗਪਾਣਿ ॥੨॥
jah dēkhau tah sārigapān .2.
Wherever I look, I see the Lord of the World. ||2||
ਕਿਆ ਹਉ ਆਖਾ ਜਾਂ ਕਛੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
kiā hau ākhā jānh kashū nāh .
What can I say? I am nothing.
ਜਾਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੩॥
jāt pat sabh tērai nāi .3.
All my status and honor are in Your Name. ||3||
ਕਾਹੇ ਮਾਲੁ ਦਰਬੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਗਰਬਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
kāhē māl darab dēkh garab jāh .
Why do you take such pride in gazing upon your property and wealth?
ਚਲਤੀ ਬਾਰ ਤੇਰੋ ਕਛੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੪॥
chalatī bār tērō kashū nāh .4.
When you must leave, nothing shall go along with you. ||4||
ਪੰਚ ਮਾਰਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਰਖਹੁ ਥਾਇ ॥
panch mār chit rakhah thāi .
So subdue the five thieves, and hold your consciousness in its place.
ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਇਹੈ ਪਾਂਇ ॥੫॥
jōg jugat kī ihai pānhi .5.
This is the basis of the way of Yoga. ||5||
ਹਉਮੈ ਪੈਖੜੁ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨੈ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
haumai paikhar tērē manai māh .
Your mind is tied with the rope of egotism.
ਹਰਿ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੬॥
har n chētah mūrē mukat jāh .6.
You do not even think of the Lord - you fool! He alone shall liberate you. ||6||
ਮਤ ਹਰਿ ਵਿਸਰਿਐ ਜਮ ਵਸਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
mat har visariai jam vas pāh .
If you forget the Lord, you will fall into the clutches of the Messenger of Death.
ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਚੋਟ ਖਾਹਿ ॥੭॥
ant kāl mūrē chōt khāh .7.
At that very last moment, you fool, you shall be beaten. ||7||
