ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Basant, Fifth Mehl:
ਤਿਸੁ ਤੂ ਸੇਵਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਤੂ ਕੀਆ ॥
tis tū sēv jin tū kīā .
Serve the One who created You.
ਤਿਸੁ ਅਰਾਧਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਦੀਆ ॥
tis arādh jin jīu dīā .
Worship the One who gave you life.
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਚਾਕਰੁ ਹੋਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਡਾਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
tis kā chākar hōh phir dān n lāgai .
Become His servant, and you shall never again be punished.
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਕਰਿ ਪੋਤਦਾਰੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥੧॥
tis kī kar pōtadārī phir dūkh n lāgai .1.
Become His trustee, and you shall never again suffer sorrow. ||1||
ਏਵਡ ਭਾਗ ਹੋਹਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ॥
ēvad bhāg hōh jis prānī .
That mortal who is blessed with such great good fortune,
ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਇਹੁ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sō pāē ih pad nirabānī .1. rahāu .
attains this state of Nirvaanaa. ||1||Pause||
ਦੂਜੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ॥
dūjī sēvā jīvan birathā .
Life is wasted uselessly in the service of duality.
ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਅਰਥਾ ॥
kashū n hōī hai pūran arathā .
No efforts shall be rewarded, and no works brought to fruition.
ਮਾਣਸ ਸੇਵਾ ਖਰੀ ਦੁਹੇਲੀ ॥
mānas sēvā kharī duhēlī .
It is so painful to serve only mortal beings.
ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹੇਲੀ ॥੨॥
sādh kī sēvā sadā suhēlī .2.
Service to the Holy brings lasting peace and bliss. ||2||
ਜੇ ਲੋੜਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਭਾਈ ॥
jē lōrah sadā sukh bhāī .
If you long for eternal peace, O Siblings of Destiny,
ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰਹਿ ਬਤਾਈ ॥
sādhū sangat gurah batāī .
then join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; this is the Guru's advice.
ਊਹਾ ਜਪੀਐ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ॥
ūhā japīai kēval nām .
There, the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is meditated on.
ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਾਰਗਰਾਮ ॥੩॥
sādhū sangat pāragarām .3.
In the Saadh Sangat, you shall be emancipated. ||3||
ਸਗਲ ਤਤ ਮਹਿ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
sagal tat mah tat giān .
Among all essences, this is the essence of spiritual wisdom.
ਸਰਬ ਧਿਆਨ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
sarab dhiān mah ēk dhiān .
Among all meditations, meditation on the One Lord is the most sublime.
ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਊਤਮ ਧੁਨਾ ॥
har kīratan mah ūtam dhunā .
The Kirtan of the Lord's Praises is the ultimate melody.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਗਾਇ ਗੁਨਾ ॥੪॥੮॥
nānak gur mil gāi gunā .4.8.
Meeting with the Guru, Nanak sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||8||
