ਜਾਮਿ ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸਾਚ ਨਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jām n bhījai sāch nāi .1. rahāu .
if you are not drenched with the True Name. ||1||Pause||
ਦਸ ਅਠ ਲੀਖੇ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
das ath līkhē hōvah pās .
One may have the eighteen Puraanas written in his own hand;
ਚਾਰੇ ਬੇਦ ਮੁਖਾਗਰ ਪਾਠਿ ॥
chārē bēd mukhāgar pāth .
he may recite the four Vedas by heart,
ਪੁਰਬੀ ਨਾਵੈ ਵਰਨਾਂ ਕੀ ਦਾਤਿ ॥
purabī nāvai varanānh kī dāt .
and take ritual baths at holy festivals and give charitable donations;
ਵਰਤ ਨੇਮ ਕਰੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤਿ ॥੨॥
varat nēm karē din rāt .2.
he may observe the ritual fasts, and perform religious ceremonies day and night. ||2||
ਕਾਜੀ ਮੁਲਾਂ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਸੇਖ ॥
kājī mulānh hōvah sēkh .
He may be a Qazi, a Mullah or a Shaykh,
ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਭਗਵੇ ਭੇਖ ॥
jōgī jangam bhagavē bhēkh .
a Yogi or a wandering hermit wearing saffron-colored robes;
ਕੋ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਕਰਮਾ ਕੀ ਸੰਧਿ ॥
kō girahī karamā kī sandh .
he may be a householder, working at his job;
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਸਭ ਖੜੀਅਸਿ ਬੰਧਿ ॥੩॥
bin būjhē sabh kharīas bandh .3.
but without understanding the essence of devotional worship, all people are eventually bound and gagged, and driven along by the Messenger of Death. ||3||
ਜੇਤੇ ਜੀਅ ਲਿਖੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰ ॥
jētē jī likhī sir kār .
Each person's karma is written on his forehead.
ਕਰਣੀ ਉਪਰਿ ਹੋਵਗਿ ਸਾਰ ॥
karanī upar hōvag sār .
According to their deeds, they shall be judged.
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਗਾਵਾਰ ॥
hukam karah mūrakh gāvār .
Only the foolish and the ignorant issue commands.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੇ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥੪॥੩॥
nānak sāchē kē siphat bhandār .4.3.
O Nanak, the treasure of praise belongs to the True Lord alone. ||4||3||

ਸੁਇਨੇ ਕਾ ਚਉਕਾ ਕੰਚਨ ਕੁਆਰ ॥
suinē kā chaukā kanchan kuār .
The kitchen is golden, and the cooking pots are golden.
ਰੁਪੇ ਕੀਆ ਕਾਰਾ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਿਸਥਾਰੁ ॥
rupē kīā kārā bahut bisathār .
The lines marking the cooking square are silver.
ਗੰਗਾ ਕਾ ਉਦਕੁ ਕਰੰਤੇ ਕੀ ਆਗਿ ॥
gangā kā udak karantē kī āg .
The water is from the Ganges, and the firewood is sanctified.
ਗਰੁੜਾ ਖਾਣਾ ਦੁਧ ਸਿਉ ਗਾਡਿ ॥੧॥
garurā khānā dudh siu gād .1.
The food is soft rice, cooked in milk. ||1||
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਲੇਖੈ ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
rē man lēkhai kabahū n pāi .
O my mind, these things are worthless,
