ਭੋਲਤਣਿ ਭੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹੇਕੈ ਪਾਧਰ ਹੀਡੁ ॥
bhōlatan bhai man vasai hēkai pādhar hīd .
The Fear of God abides in the mind of the innocent; this is the straight path to the One Lord.
ਅਤਿ ਡਾਹਪਣਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਘਣੋ ਤੀਨੇ ਥਾਵ ਭਰੀਡੁ ॥੧॥
at dāhapan dukh ghanō tīnē thāv bharīd .1.
Jealousy and envy bring terrible pain, and one is cursed throughout the three worlds. ||1||

ਮਾਂਦਲੁ ਬੇਦਿ ਸਿ ਬਾਜਣੋ ਘਣੋ ਧੜੀਐ ਜੋਇ ॥
mānhdal bēd s bājanō ghanō dharīai jōi .
The drum of the Vedas vibrates, bringing dispute and divisiveness.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਤੂ ਬੀਜਉ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੨॥
nānak nām samāl tū bījau avar n kōi .2.
O Nanak, contemplate the Naam, the Name of the Lord; there is none except Him. ||2||

ਸਾਗਰੁ ਗੁਣੀ ਅਥਾਹੁ ਕਿਨਿ ਹਾਥਾਲਾ ਦੇਖੀਐ ॥
sāgar gunī athāh kin hāthālā dēkhīai .
The world-ocean of the three qualities is unfathomably deep; how can its bottom be seen?
ਵਡਾ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਵਾ ॥
vadā vēparavāh satigur milai t pār pavā .
If I meet with the great, self-sufficient True Guru, then I am carried across.
ਮਝ ਭਰਿ ਦੁਖ ਬਦੁਖ ॥
majh bhar dukh badukh .
This ocean is filled up with pain and suffering.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਲਥੀ ਭੁਖ ॥੩॥
nānak sachē nām bin kisai n lathī bhukh .3.
O Nanak, without the True Name, no one's hunger is appeased. ||3||

Pauree:
ਜਿਨੀ ਅੰਦਰੁ ਭਾਲਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥
jinī andar bhāliā gur sabad suhāvai .
Those who search their inner beings, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, are exalted and adorned.
ਜੋ ਇਛਨਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਇਦੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥
jō ishan sō pāidē har nām dhiāvai .
They obtain what they wish for, meditating on the Lord's Name.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
jis nō kripā karē tis gur milai sō har gun gāvai .
One who is blessed by God's Grace, meets with the Guru; he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਮਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਜਮ ਮਗਿ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
dharam rāi tin kā mit hai jam mag n pāvai .
The Righteous Judge of Dharma is his friend; he does not have to walk on the Path of Death.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੧੪॥
har nām dhiāvah dinas rāt har nām samāvai .14.
He meditates on the Lord's Name, day and night; he is absorbed and immersed in the Lord's Name. ||14||
