ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੯ ॥

Maaroo, Ninth Mehl:
ਮਾਈ ਮੈ ਮਨ ਕੋ ਮਾਨੁ ਨ ਤਿਆਗਿਓ ॥
māī mai man kō mān n tiāgiō .
O my mother, I have not renounced the pride of my mind.
ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਮਦਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਿਰਾਇਓ ਰਾਮ ਭਜਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਲਾਗਿਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
māiā kē mad janam sirāiō rām bhajan nahī lāgiō .1. rahāu .
I have wasted my life intoxicated with Maya; I have not focused myself in meditation on the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਜਮ ਕੋ ਡੰਡੁ ਪਰਿਓ ਸਿਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਤਬ ਸੋਵਤ ਤੈ ਜਾਗਿਓ ॥
jam kō dand pariō sir ūpar tab sōvat tai jāgiō .
When Death's club falls on my head, then I will be wakened from my sleep.
ਕਹਾ ਹੋਤ ਅਬ ਕੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਏ ਛੂਟਤ ਨਾਹਿਨ ਭਾਗਿਓ ॥੧॥
kahā hōt ab kai pashutāē shūtat nāhin bhāgiō .1.
But what good will it do to repent at that time? I cannot escape by running away. ||1||
ਇਹ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਉਪਜੀ ਘਟ ਮਹਿ ਜਬ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨਨ ਅਨੁਰਾਗਿਓ ॥
ih chintā upajī ghat mah jab gur charanan anurāgiō .
When this anxiety arises in the heart, then, one comes to love the Guru's feet.
ਸੁਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਬ ਹੂਆ ਜਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਸ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਗਿਓ ॥੨॥੩॥
suphal janam nānak tab hūā jau prabh jas mah pāgiō .2.3.
My life becomes fruitful, O Nanak, only when I am absorbed in the Praises of God. ||2||3||
