Raamkalee, First Mehl:
ਸੁਰਤੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਰਲਾਈਐ ਏਤੁ ॥
suratī surat ralāīai ēt .
Focus your consciousness in deep absorption on the Lord.
ਤਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਤੁਲਹਾ ਲੰਘਹਿ ਜੇਤੁ ॥
tan kar tulahā langhah jēt .
Make your body a raft, to cross over.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਭਾਹਿ ਤਿਸੈ ਤੂ ਰਖੁ ॥
antar bhāh tisai tū rakh .
Deep within is the fire of desire; keep it in check.
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਦੀਵਾ ਬਲੈ ਅਥਕੁ ॥੧॥
ahinis dīvā balai athak .1.
Day and night, that lamp shall burn unceasingly. ||1||
ਐਸਾ ਦੀਵਾ ਨੀਰਿ ਤਰਾਇ ॥
aisā dīvā nīr tarāi .
Float such a lamp upon the water;
ਜਿਤੁ ਦੀਵੈ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jit dīvai sabh sōjhī pāi .1. rahāu .
this lamp will bring total understanding. ||1||Pause||
ਹਛੀ ਮਿਟੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
hashī mitī sōjhī hōi .
This understanding is good clay;
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਮਾਨੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
tā kā kīā mānai sōi .
a lamp made of such clay is acceptable to the Lord.
ਕਰਣੀ ਤੇ ਕਰਿ ਚਕਹੁ ਢਾਲਿ ॥
karanī tē kar chakah dhāl .
So shape this lamp on the wheel of good actions.
ਐਥੈ ਓਥੈ ਨਿਬਹੀ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੨॥
aithai ōthai nibahī nāl .2.
In this world and in the next, this lamp shall be with you. ||2||
ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
āpē nadar karē jā sōi .
When He Himself grants His Grace,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
guramukh viralā būjhai kōi .
then, as Gurmukh, one may understand Him.
ਤਿਤੁ ਘਟਿ ਦੀਵਾ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
tit ghat dīvā nihachal hōi .
Within the heart, this lamp is permanently lit.
ਪਾਣੀ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਬੁਝਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
pānī marai n bujhāiā jāi .
It is not extinguished by water or wind.
ਐਸਾ ਦੀਵਾ ਨੀਰਿ ਤਰਾਇ ॥੩॥
aisā dīvā nīr tarāi .3.
Such a lamp will carry you across the water. ||3||
ਡੋਲੈ ਵਾਉ ਨ ਵਡਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
dōlai vāu n vadā hōi .
Wind does not shake it, or put it out.
ਜਾਪੈ ਜਿਉ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਣਿ ਲੋਇ ॥
jāpai jiu singhāsan lōi .
Its light reveals the Divine Throne.
ਖਤ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣੁ ਸੂਦੁ ਕਿ ਵੈਸੁ ॥
khatrī brāhaman sūd k vais .
The Kh'shaatriyas, Brahmins, Soodras and Vaishyas
ਨਿਰਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਆ ਗਣੀ ਸਹੰਸ ॥
nirat n pāīā ganī sahans .
cannot find its value, even by thousands of calculations.
ਐਸਾ ਦੀਵਾ ਬਾਲੇ ਕੋਇ ॥
aisā dīvā bālē kōi .
If any of them lights such a lamp,
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਪਾਰੰਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੭॥
nānak sō pārangat hōi .4.7.
O Nanak, he is emancipated. ||4||7||
