ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik ōunkār sat nām karatā purakh nirabhau niravair akāl mūrat ajūnī saibhan gur prasād .
One Universal Creator God. Truth Is The Name. Creative Being Personified. No Fear. No Hatred. Image Of The Undying. Beyond Birth. Self-Existent. By Guru's Grace:
ਕੋਈ ਪੜਤਾ ਸਹਸਾਕਿਰਤਾ ਕੋਈ ਪੜੈ ਪੁਰਾਨਾ ॥
kōī paratā sahasākiratā kōī parai purānā .
Some read the Sanskrit scriptures, and some read the Puraanas.
ਕੋਈ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਜਪਮਾਲੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਧਿਆਨਾ ॥
kōī nām japai japamālī lāgai tisai dhiānā .
Some meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and chant it on their malas, focusing on it in meditation.
ਅਬ ਹੀ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥੧॥
ab hī kab hī kishū n jānā tērā ēkō nām pashānā .1.
I know nothing, now or ever; I recognize only Your One Name, Lord. ||1||
ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਹਰੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਵਨ ਗਤੇ ॥
n jānā harē mērī kavan gatē .
I do not know, Lord, what my condition shall be.
ਹਮ ਮੂਰਖ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਲਾਜ ਪਤੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ham mūrakh agiān saran prabh tērī kar kirapā rākhah mērī lāj patē .1. rahāu .
I am foolish and ignorant; I seek Your Sanctuary, God. Please, save my honor and my self-respect. ||1||Pause||
ਕਬਹੂ ਜੀਅੜਾ ਊਭਿ ਚੜਤੁ ਹੈ ਕਬਹੂ ਜਾਇ ਪਇਆਲੇ ॥
kabahū jīarā ūbh charat hai kabahū jāi paiālē .
Sometimes, the soul soars high in the heavens, and sometimes it falls to the depths of the nether regions.
ਲੋਭੀ ਜੀਅੜਾ ਥਿਰੁ ਨ ਰਹਤੁ ਹੈ ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਭਾਲੇ ॥੨॥
lōbhī jīarā thir n rahat hai chārē kundā bhālē .2.
The greedy soul does not remain stable; it searches in the four directions. ||2||
ਮਰਣੁ ਲਿਖਾਇ ਮੰਡਲ ਮਹਿ ਆਏ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਸਾਜਹਿ ਮਾਈ ॥
maran likhāi mandal mah āē jīvan sājah māī .
With death pre-ordained, the soul comes into the world, gathering the riches of life.
ਏਕਿ ਚਲੇ ਹਮ ਦੇਖਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਭਾਹਿ ਬਲੰਤੀ ਆਈ ॥੩॥
ēk chalē ham dēkhah suāmī bhāh balantī āī .3.
I see that some have already gone, O my Lord and Master; the burning fire is coming closer! ||3||
ਨ ਕਿਸੀ ਕਾ ਮੀਤੁ ਨ ਕਿਸੀ ਕਾ ਭਾਈ ਨਾ ਕਿਸੈ ਬਾਪੁ ਨ ਮਾਈ ॥
n kisī kā mīt n kisī kā bhāī nā kisai bāp n māī .
No one has any friend, and no one has any brother; no one has any father or mother.
ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੇ ਤੂ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਅੰਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥
pranavat nānak jē tū dēvah antē hōi sakhāī .4.1.
Prays Nanak, if You bless me with Your Name, it shall be my help and support in the end. ||4||1||
