ਤੂਟੇ ਤਾਗੇ ਨਿਖੁਟੀ ਪਾਨਿ ॥
tūtē tāgē nikhutī pān .
The threads are broken, and the starch has run out.
ਦੁਆਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਝਿਲਕਾਵਹਿ ਕਾਨ ॥
duār ūpar jhilakāvah kān .
Bare reeds glisten at the front door.
ਕੂਚ ਬਿਚਾਰੇ ਫੂਏ ਫਾਲ ॥
kūch bichārē phūē phāl .
The poor brushes are scattered in pieces.
ਇਆ ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਚਢਿਬੋ ਕਾਲ ॥੧॥
iā mundīā sir chadhibō kāl .1.
Death has entered this shaven head. ||1||
ਇਹੁ ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਸਗਲੋ ਦ੍ਰਬੁ ਖੋਈ ॥
ih mundīā sagalō drab khōī .
This shaven-headed mendicant has wasted all his wealth.
ਆਵਤ ਜਾਤ ਨਾਕ ਸਰ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
āvat jāt nāk sar hōī .1. rahāu .
All this coming and going has irritated him. ||1||Pause||
ਤੁਰੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਕੀ ਛੋਡੀ ਬਾਤਾ ॥
turī nār kī shōdī bātā .
He has given up all talk of his weaving equipment.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਵਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
rām nām vā kā man rātā .
His mind is attuned to the Lord's Name.
ਲਰਿਕੀ ਲਰਿਕਨ ਖੈਬੋ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
larikī larikan khaibō nāh .
His daughters and sons have nothing to eat,
ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਧਾਪੇ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
mundīā anadin dhāpē jāh .2.
while the shaven-headed mendicants night and day eat their fill. ||2||
ਇਕ ਦੁਇ ਮੰਦਰਿ ਇਕ ਦੁਇ ਬਾਟ ॥
ik dui mandar ik dui bāt .
One or two are in the house, and one or two more are on the way.
ਹਮ ਕਉ ਸਾਥਰੁ ਉਨ ਕਉ ਖਾਟ ॥
ham kau sāthar un kau khāt .
We sleep on the floor, while they sleep in the beds.
ਮੂਡ ਪਲੋਸਿ ਕਮਰ ਬਧਿ ਪੋਥੀ ॥
mūd palōs kamar badh pōthī .
They rub their bare heads, and carry prayer-books in their waist-bands.
ਹਮ ਕਉ ਚਾਬਨੁ ਉਨ ਕਉ ਰੋਟੀ ॥੩॥
ham kau chāban un kau rōtī .3.
We get dry grains, while they get loaves of bread. ||3||
ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਹੂਏ ਏਕ ॥
mundīā mundīā hūē ēk .
He will become one of these shaven-headed mendicants.
ਏ ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਬੂਡਤ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ॥
ē mundīā būdat kī tēk .
They are the support of the drowning.
ਸੁਨਿ ਅੰਧਲੀ ਲੋਈ ਬੇਪੀਰਿ ॥
sun andhalī lōī bēpīr .
Listen, O blind and unguided Loi:
ਇਨ੍ਹ ਮੁੰਡੀਅਨ ਭਜਿ ਸਰਨਿ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੪॥੩॥੬॥
inh mundīan bhaj saran kabīr .4.3.6.
Kabeer has taken shelter with these shaven-headed mendicants. ||4||3||6||
