ਮਨ ਕਠੋਰੁ ਅਜਹੂ ਨ ਪਤੀਨਾ ॥
man kathōr ajahū n patīnā .
Even then, his hardened mind was not satisfied.
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਹਮਰਾ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ॥
kah kabīr hamarā gōbind .
Says Kabeer, such is my Lord and Master.
ਚਉਥੇ ਪਦ ਮਹਿ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਜਿੰਦੁ ॥੪॥੧॥੪॥
chauthē pad mah jan kī jind .4.1.4.
The soul of His humble servant dwells in the fourth state. ||4||1||4||

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਭੁਜਾ ਬਾਂਧਿ ਭਿਲਾ ਕਰਿ ਡਾਰਿਓ ॥
bhujā bānhdh bhilā kar dāriō .
They tied my arms, bundled me up, and threw me before an elephant.
ਹਸਤੀ ਕ੍ਰੋਪਿ ਮੂੰਡ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਰਿਓ ॥
hasatī krōp mūnd mah māriō .
The elephant driver struck him on the head, and infuriated him.
ਹਸਤਿ ਭਾਗਿ ਕੈ ਚੀਸਾ ਮਾਰੈ ॥
hasat bhāg kai chīsā mārai .
But the elephant ran away, trumpeting,
ਇਆ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ॥੧॥
iā mūrat kai hau balihārai .1.
I am a sacrifice to this image of the Lord.||1||
ਆਹਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਤੁਮਰਾ ਜੋਰੁ ॥
āh mērē thākur tumarā jōr .
O my Lord and Master, You are my strength.
ਕਾਜੀ ਬਕਿਬੋ ਹਸਤੀ ਤੋਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kājī bakibō hasatī tōr .1. rahāu .
The Qazi shouted at the driver to drive the elephant on. ||1||Pause||
ਰੇ ਮਹਾਵਤ ਤੁਝੁ ਡਾਰਉ ਕਾਟਿ ॥
rē mahāvat tujh dārau kāt .
He yelled out, "O driver, I shall cut you into pieces.
ਇਸਹਿ ਤੁਰਾਵਹੁ ਘਾਲਹੁ ਸਾਟਿ ॥
isah turāvah ghālah sāt .
Hit him, and drive him on!"
ਹਸਤਿ ਨ ਤੋਰੈ ਧਰੈ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
hasat n tōrai dharai dhiān .
But the elephant did not move; instead, he began to meditate.
ਵਾ ਕੈ ਰਿਦੈ ਬਸੈ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
vā kai ridai basai bhagavān .2.
The Lord God abides within his mind. ||2||
ਕਿਆ ਅਪਰਾਧੁ ਸੰਤ ਹੈ ਕੀਨ੍ਹਾ ॥
kiā aparādh sant hai kīnhā .
What sin has this Saint committed,
ਬਾਂਧਿ ਪੋਟ ਕੁੰਚਰ ਕਉ ਦੀਨ੍ਹਾ ॥
bānhdh pōt kunchar kau dīnhā .
that you have made him into a bundle and thrown him before the elephant?
ਕੁੰਚਰੁ ਪੋਟ ਲੈ ਲੈ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੈ ॥
kunchar pōt lai lai namasakārai .
Lifting up the bundle, the elephant bows down before it.
ਬੂਝੀ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਜੀ ਅੰਧਿਆਰੈ ॥੩॥
būjhī nahī kājī andhiārai .3.
The Qazi could not understand it; he was blind. ||3||
ਤੀਨਿ ਬਾਰ ਪਤੀਆ ਭਰਿ ਲੀਨਾ ॥
tīn bār patīā bhar līnā .
Three times, he tried to do it.
