ਕਿਛੁ ਕਿਸੀ ਕੈ ਹਥਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਐਸੀ ਮੇਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
kish kisī kai hath nāhī mērē suāmī aisī mērai satigur būjh bujhāī .
Nothing is in the hands of anyone, O my Lord and Master; such is the understanding the True Guru has given me to understand.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਤੂ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥
jan nānak kī ās tū jānah har darasan dēkh har darasan tripatāī .4.1.
You alone know the hope of servant Nanak, O Lord; gazing upon the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, he is satisfied. ||4||1||

ਜੇ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਸ ਰਖਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਊਪਰਿ ਤਾ ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦੇ ਅਨੇਕ ਅਨੇਕ ਫਲ ਪਾਈ ॥
jē man chit ās rakhah har ūpar tā man chindē anēk anēk phal pāī .
If, in his conscious mind, he places his hopes in the Lord, then he shall obtain the fruits of all the many desires of his mind.
ਹਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜੋ ਜੀਇ ਵਰਤੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਘਾਲਿਆ ਕਿਸੈ ਕਾ ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
har jānai sabh kish jō jīi varatai prabh ghāliā kisai kā ik til n gavāī .
The Lord knows everything which happens to the soul. Not even an iota of one's effort goes to waste.
ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਕੀਜੈ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥
har tis kī ās kījai man mērē jō sabh mah suāmī rahiā samāī .1.
Place your hopes in the Lord, O my mind; the Lord and Master is pervading and permeating all. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਆਸਾ ਕਰਿ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥
mērē man āsā kar jagadīs gusāī .
O my mind, place your hopes in the Lord of the World, the Master of the Universe.
ਜੋ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਸ ਅਵਰ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੀ ਕੀਜੈ ਸਾ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਆਸ ਸਭ ਬਿਰਥੀ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jō bin har ās avar kāhū kī kījai sā nihaphal ās sabh birathī jāī .1. rahāu .
That hope which is placed in any other than the Lord - that hope is fruitless, and totally useless. ||1||Pause||
ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਸਭੁ ਮਤ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਲਗਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
jō dīsai māiā mōh kutanb sabh mat tis kī ās lag janam gavāī .
That which you can see, Maya, and all attachment to family - don't place your hopes in them, or your life will be wasted and lost.
ਇਨ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਾਥਿ ਨਹੀ ਕਹਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਇਹਿ ਬਪੁੜੇ ਇਨ੍ਹ ਕਾ ਵਾਹਿਆ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
inh kai kish hāth nahī kahā karah ih bapurē inh kā vāhiā kash n vasāī .
Nothing is in their hands; what can these poor creatures do? By their actions, nothing can be done.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਆਸ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ ਜੋ ਤੁਝੁ ਤਾਰੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਸਭੁ ਛਡਾਈ ॥੨॥
mērē man ās kar har prītam apunē kī jō tujh tārai tērā kutanb sabh shadāī .2.
O my mind, place your hopes in the Lord, your Beloved, who shall carry you across, and save your whole family as well. ||2||
ਜੇ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਸ ਅਵਰ ਕਰਹਿ ਪਰਮਿਤ੍ਰੀ ਮਤ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਕਿਤੈ ਕੰਮਿ ਆਈ ॥
jē kish ās avar karah paramitrī mat tūn jānah tērai kitai kanm āī .
If you place your hopes in any other, in any friend other than the Lord, then you shall come to know that it is of no use at all.
ਇਹ ਆਸ ਪਰਮਿਤ੍ਰੀ ਭਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ਹੈ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਝੂਠੁ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਸਭ ਜਾਈ ॥
ih ās paramitrī bhāu dūjā hai khin mah jhūth binas sabh jāī .
This hope placed in other friends comes from the love of duality. In an instant, it is gone; it is totally false.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਆਸਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੀ ਜੋ ਤੇਰਾ ਘਾਲਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਈ ॥੩॥
mērē man āsā kar har prītam sāchē kī jō tērā ghāliā sabh thāi pāī .3.
O my mind, place your hopes in the Lord, your True Beloved, who shall approve and reward you for all your efforts. ||3||
ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜੈਸੀ ਤੂ ਆਸ ਕਰਾਵਹਿ ਤੈਸੀ ਕੋ ਆਸ ਕਰਾਈ ॥
āsā manasā sabh tērī mērē suāmī jaisī tū ās karāvah taisī kō ās karāī .
Hope and desire are all Yours, O my Lord and Master. As You inspire hope, so are the hopes held.
