ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਜਮੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
guramatī jam jōh n sākai sāchai nām samāiā .
Following the Guru's Teachings, I cannot be touched by the Messenger of Death. I am absorbed in the True Name.
ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਕਰਤਾ ਜੋ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਨਾਇ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
sabh āpē āp varatai karatā jō bhāvai sō nāi lāiā .
The Creator Himself is All-pervading everywhere; He links those with whom He is pleased to His Name.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਏ ਤਾ ਜੀਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਖਿਨੁ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
jan nānak nām laē tā jīvai bin nāvai khin mar jāiā .2.
Servant Nanak chants the Naam, and so he lives. Without the Name, he would die in an instant. ||2||

Pauree:
ਜੋ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਦੀਬਾਣ ਸਿਉ ਸੋ ਸਭਨੀ ਦੀਬਾਣੀ ਮਿਲਿਆ ॥
jō miliā har dībān siu sō sabhanī dībānī miliā .
One who is accepted at the Court of the Lord shall be accepted in courts everywhere.
ਜਿਥੈ ਓਹੁ ਜਾਇ ਤਿਥੈ ਓਹੁ ਸੁਰਖਰੂ ਉਸ ਕੈ ਮੁਹਿ ਡਿਠੈ ਸਭ ਪਾਪੀ ਤਰਿਆ ॥
jithai ōh jāi tithai ōh surakharū us kai muh dithai sabh pāpī tariā .
Wherever he goes, he is recognized as honorable. Seeing his face, all sinners are saved.
ਓਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਮੋ ਪਰਵਰਿਆ ॥
ōs antar nām nidhān hai nāmō paravariā .
Within him is the Treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. Through the Naam, he is exalted.
ਨਾਉ ਪੂਜੀਐ ਨਾਉ ਮੰਨੀਐ ਨਾਇ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਸਭ ਹਿਰਿਆ ॥
nāu pūjīai nāu mannīai nāi kilavikh sabh hiriā .
He worships the Name, and believes in the Name; the Name erases all his sinful mistakes.
ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਇਕ ਚਿਤਿ ਸੇ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਜਗਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥੧੧॥
jinī nām dhiāiā ik man ik chit sē asathir jag rahiā .11.
Those who meditate on the Name, with one-pointed mind and focused consciousness, remain forever stable in the world. ||11||

Shalok, Third Mehl:
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਸੂਰਾ ਵਰੀਆਮੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਦੁਸਟੁ ਅਹੰਕਰਣੁ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥
nānak sō sūrā varīām jin vichah dusat ahankaran māriā .
O Nanak, he is a brave warrior, who conquers and subdues his vicious inner ego.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
guramukh nām sālāh janam savāriā .
Praising the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the Gurmukhs redeem their lives.
ਆਪਿ ਹੋਆ ਸਦਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਕੁਲੁ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਿਆ ॥
āp hōā sadā mukat sabh kul nisatāriā .
They themselves are liberated forever, and they save all their ancestors.
ਸੋਹਨਿ ਸਚਿ ਦੁਆਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ॥
sōhan sach duār nām piāriā .
Those who love the Naam look beauteous at the Gate of Truth.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਰਹਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਮਰਣੁ ਵਿਗਾੜਿਆ ॥
manamukh marah ahankār maran vigāriā .
The self-willed manmukhs die in egotism-even their death is painfully ugly.
ਸਭੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਵਿਚਾਰਿਆ ॥
sabhō varatai hukam kiā karah vichāriā .
Everything happens according to the Lord's Will; what can the poor people do?
ਆਪਹੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਲਗਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ॥
āpah dūjai lag khasam visāriā .
Attached to self-conceit and duality, they have forgotten their Lord and Master.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ॥੧॥
nānak bin nāvai sabh dukh sukh visāriā .1.
O Nanak, without the Name, everything is painful, and happiness is forgotten. ||1||

Third Mehl:
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
gur pūrai har nām dirāiā tin vichah bharam chukāiā .
The Perfect Guru has implanted the Name of the Lord within me. It has dispelled my doubts from within.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਗਾਈ ਕਰਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਮਗੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
rām nām har kīrat gāī kar chānan mag dikhāiā .
I sing the Lord's Name and the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises; the Divine Light shines, and now I see the Way.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
haumai mār ēk liv lāgī antar nām vasāiā .
Conquering my ego, I am lovingly focused on the One Lord; the Naam has come to dwell within me.
