ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik ōunkār satigur prasād .
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹੁ ਸਚੇ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ਓਥੈ ਕੂੜੇ ਨ ਟਿਕੰਨਿ ॥
sachā sāh sachē vanajārē ōthai kūrē n tikann .
True is the Banker, and True are His traders. The false ones cannot remain there.
ਓਨਾ ਸਚੁ ਨ ਭਾਵਈ ਦੁਖ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਪਚੰਨਿ ॥੧੮॥
ōnā sach n bhāvaī dukh hī māh pachann .18.
They do not love the Truth - they are consumed by their pain. ||18||
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਨ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਜੋ ਮਰਿ ਵੰਞਸੀ ॥
dunīā n sālāh jō mar vanñasī .
Do not praise the world; it shall simply pass away.
ਲੋਕਾ ਨ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਜੋ ਮਰਿ ਖਾਕੁ ਥੀਈ ॥੧॥
lōkā n sālāh jō mar khāk thīī .1.
Do not praise other people; they shall die and turn to dust. ||1||
ਵਾਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਵਾਹੁ ॥
vāh mērē sāhibā vāh .
Waaho! Waaho! Hail, hail to my Lord and Master.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲਾ ਜਗੁ ਫਿਰੈ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥
haumai mailā jag phirai mar janmai vārō vār .
The world wanders around in the filth of egotism; it dies, and is re-born, over and again.
ਪਇਐ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰ ॥੧੯॥
paiai kirat kamāvanā kōi n mētanahār .19.
He acts in accordance with the karma of his past actions, which no one can erase. ||19||
ਸੰਤਾ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਤਾ ਸਚਿ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
santā sangat mil rahai tā sach lagai piār .
But if he joins the Society of the Saints, then he comes to embrace love for the Truth.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਸਚਾ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
guramukh sadā salāhīai sachā vēparavāh .1. rahāu .
As Gurmukh, forever praise the One who is forever True, Independent and Carefree. ||1||Pause||
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਕੇਰੀ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਦਝਿ ਮਰੰਨਿ ॥
dunīā kērī dōsatī manamukh dajh marann .
Making worldly friendships, the self-willed manmukhs burn and die.
ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਮਨਿ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ॥੨੦॥
sach salāhī sach man dar sachai sachiār .20.
Praising the True Lord with a truthful mind, he becomes true in the Court of the True Lord. ||20||
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਪੂਰੀ ਮਤਿ ਹੈ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
gur pūrē pūrī mat hai ahinis nām dhiāi .
The Teachings of the Perfect Guru are perfect; meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, day and night.
ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਬਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਵੇਲਾ ਨ ਲਾਹੰਨਿ ॥੨॥
jam pur badhē mārīah vēlā n lāhann .2.
In the City of Death, they are bound and gagged and beaten; this opportunity shall never come again. ||2||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਕਾਰਥਾ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਗੰਨਿ ॥
guramukh janam sakārathā sachai sabad lagann .
The lives of the Gurmukhs are fruitful and blessed; they are committed to the True Word of the Shabad.
ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਰਹੰਨਿ ॥੩॥
ātam rām pragāsiā sahajē sukh rahann .3.
Their souls are illuminated by the Lord, and they dwell in peace and pleasure. ||3||
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਵਡ ਰੋਗੁ ਹੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਇ ॥੨੧॥
haumai mērā vad rōg hai vichah thāk rahāi .21.
Egotism and self-conceit are terrible diseases; tranquility and stillness come from within. ||21||
ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਿਵਿ ਨਿਵਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਪਾਇ ॥
gur sālāhī āpanā niv niv lāgā pāi .
I praise my Guru; bowing down to Him again and again, I fall at His Feet.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਰਚੰਨਿ ॥
gur kā sabad visāriā dūjai bhāi rachann .
Those who forget the Word of the Guru's Shabad are engrossed in the love of duality.
ਤਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਲਤ ਫਿਰੰਨਿ ॥੪॥
tisanā bhukh n utarai anadin jalat phirann .4.
Their hunger and thirst never leave them, and night and day, they wander around burning. ||4||
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਉਪੀ ਆਗੈ ਧਰੀ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥੨੨॥
tan man saupī āgai dharī vichah āp gavāi .22.
I place my body and mind in offering unto Him, eradicating self-conceit from within. ||22||
ਦੁਸਟਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਨਾਲਿ ਸੰਤਾ ਵੈਰੁ ਕਰੰਨਿ ॥
dusatā nāl dōsatī nāl santā vair karann .
Those who make friendships with the wicked, and harbor animosity to the Saints,
ਆਪਿ ਡੁਬੇ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸਿਉ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਡੋਬੰਨਿ ॥੫॥
āp dubē kutanb siu sagalē kul dōbann .5.
shall drown with their families, and their entire lineage shall be obliterated. ||5||
ਖਿੰਚੋਤਾਣਿ ਵਿਗੁਚੀਐ ਏਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
khinchōtān viguchīai ēkas siu liv lāi .
Indecision leads to ruin; focus your attention on the One Lord.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਛਡਿ ਤੂ ਤਾ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨੩॥
haumai mērā shad tū tā sach rahai samāi .23.
Renounce egotism and self-conceit, and remain merged in Truth. ||23||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨੋ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਿ ਭਾਇਰਾ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਗੰਨਿ ॥
satigur nō milē s bhāirā sachai sabad lagann .
Those who meet with the True Guru are my Siblings of Destiny; they are committed to the True Word of the Shabad.
ਨਿੰਦਾ ਭਲੀ ਕਿਸੈ ਕੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਕਰੰਨਿ ॥
nindā bhalī kisai kī nāhī manamukh mugadh karann .
It is not good to slander anyone, but the foolish, self-willed manmukhs still do it.
ਮੁਹ ਕਾਲੇ ਤਿਨ ਨਿੰਦਕਾ ਨਰਕੇ ਘੋਰਿ ਪਵੰਨਿ ॥੬॥
muh kālē tin nindakā narakē ghōr pavann .6.
The faces of the slanderers turn black, and they fall into the most horrible hell. ||6||
ਸਚਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਹਿ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਦਿਸੰਨਿ ॥੨੪॥
sach milē sē n vishurah dar sachai disann .24.
Those who merge with the True Lord shall not be separated again; they are judged to be True in the Court of the Lord. ||24||
ਸੇ ਭਾਈ ਸੇ ਸਜਣਾ ਜੋ ਸਚਾ ਸੇਵੰਨਿ ॥
sē bhāī sē sajanā jō sachā sēvann .
They are my Siblings of Destiny, and they are my friends, who serve the True Lord.
ਏ ਮਨ ਜੈਸਾ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਤੈਸਾ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਤੇਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
ē man jaisā sēvah taisā hōvah tēhē karam kamāi .
O mind, as you serve, so do you become, and so are the deeds that you do.
ਆਪਿ ਬੀਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਖਾਵਣਾ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੭॥
āp bīj āpē hī khāvanā kahanā kishū n jāi .7.
Whatever you yourself plant, that is what you shall have to eat; nothing else can be said about this. ||7||
ਅਵਗਣ ਵਿਕਣਿ ਪਲ੍ਹਰਨਿ ਗੁਣ ਕੀ ਸਾਝ ਕਰੰਨ੍ਹਿ ॥੨੫॥
avagan vikan palharan gun kī sājh karannh .25.
They sell off their sins and demerits like straw, and enter into the partnership of virtue. ||25||
ਗੁਣ ਕੀ ਸਾਝ ਸੁਖੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇਨਿ ॥
gun kī sājh sukh ūpajai sachī bhagat karēn .
In the partnership of virtue, peace wells up, and they perform true devotional worship service.
ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖਾ ਕਾ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਿਤੈ ਪਰਥਾਇ ॥
mahā purakhā kā bōlanā hōvai kitai parathāi .
The speech of the great spiritual beings has a higher purpose.
ਓਇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਰੇ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹਹਿ ਓਨਾ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਇ ॥੮॥
ōi anmrit bharē bharapūr hah ōnā til n tamāi .8.
They are filled to over-flowing with Ambrosial Nectar, and they have absolutely no greed at all. ||8||
ਸਚੁ ਵਣੰਜਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਏਨਿ ॥੨੬॥
sach vananjah gur sabad siu lāhā nām laēn .26.
They deal in Truth, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and they earn the profit of the Naam. ||26||
ਸੁਇਨਾ ਰੁਪਾ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਸੰਚੀਐ ਚਲੈ ਨ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
suinā rupā pāp kar kar sanchīai chalai n chaladiā nāl .
Gold and silver may be earned by committing sins, but they will not go with you when you die.
ਗੁਣਕਾਰੀ ਗੁਣ ਸੰਘਰੈ ਅਵਰਾ ਉਪਦੇਸੇਨਿ ॥
gunakārī gun sangharai avarā upadēsēn .
The virtuous accumulate virtue, and teach others.
ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿ ਓਨਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਏਨਿ ॥੯॥
sē vadabhāgī j ōnā mil rahē anadin nām laēn .9.
Those who meet with them are so very fortunate; night and day, they chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||9||
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਚਲਸੀ ਸਭ ਮੁਠੀ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥੨੭॥
vin nāvai nāl n chalasī sabh muthī jamakāl .27.
Nothing will go with you in the end, except the Name; all are plundered by the Messenger of Death. ||27||
ਦੇਸੀ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸੰਬਾਹਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਮੇਦਨੀ ॥
dēsī rijak sanbāh jin upāī mēdanī .
He who created the Universe, gives sustenance to it.
ਏਕੋ ਹੈ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਸਚਾ ਆਪਿ ਧਣੀ ॥੧੦॥
ēkō hai dātār sachā āp dhanī .10.
The One Lord alone is the Great Giver. He Himself is the True Master. ||10||
ਮਨ ਕਾ ਤੋਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਖਹੁ ਸਮ੍ਹਾਲਿ ॥
man kā tōsā har nām hai hiradai rakhah samhāl .
The Lord's Name is the nourishment of the mind; cherish it, and preserve it carefully within your heart.
ਏਹੁ ਖਰਚੁ ਅਖੁਟੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਬਹੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੨੮॥
ēh kharach akhut hai guramukh nibahai nāl .28.
This nourishment is inexhaustible; it is always with the Gurmukhs. ||28||
ਏ ਮਨ ਮੂਲਹੁ ਭੁਲਿਆ ਜਾਸਹਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
ē man mūlah bhuliā jāsah pat gavāi .
O mind, if you forget the Primal Lord, you shall depart, having lost your honor.
ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥
sō sach tērai nāl hai guramukh nadar nihāl .
That True Lord is always with you; the Gurmukh is blessed with His Glance of Grace.
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੧੧॥
āpē bakhasē mēl laē sō prabh sadā samāl .11.
He Himself shall forgive you, and merge you into Himself; forever cherish and contemplate God. ||11||
ਇਹੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੨੯॥
ih jagat mōh dūjai viāpiā guramatī sach dhiāi .29.
This world is engrossed in the love of duality; follow the Guru's Teachings, and meditate on the True Lord. ||29||
ਮਨੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
man mailā sach niramalā kiu kar miliā jāi .
The mind is impure; only the True Lord is pure. So how can it merge into Him?
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਤਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇ ॥੧੨॥
prabh mēlē tā mil rahai haumai sabad jalāi .12.
God merges it into Himself, and then it remains merged; through the Word of His Shabad, the ego is burnt away. ||12||
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨ ਪਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਲਿਖਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
har kī kīmat n pavai har jas likhan n jāi .
The Lord's value cannot be estimated; the Lord's Praises cannot be written down.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਪੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩੦॥
gur kai sabad man tan rapai har siu rahai samāi .30.
When one's mind and body are attuned to the Word of the Guru's Shabad, one remains merged in the Lord. ||30||
ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਸਚਾ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥
sō sah sachā vīsarai dhrig jīvan sansār .
Cursed is the life in this world, of one who forgets her True Husband Lord.
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਨਾ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੧੩॥
nadar karē nā vīsarai guramatī vīchār .13.
The Lord grants His Mercy, and she does not forget Him, if she contemplates the Guru's Teachings. ||13||
ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਰੰਗੁਲਾ ਰੰਗੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
sō sah mērā rangulā rangē sahaj subhāi .
My Husband Lord is playful; He has imbued me with His Love, with natural ease.
ਕਾਮਣਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਤਾ ਚੜੈ ਜਾ ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩੧॥
kāman rang tā charai jā pir kai ank samāi .31.
The soul-bride is imbued with His Love, when her Husband Lord merges her into His Being. ||31||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਤਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹਾ ਸਾਚੁ ਰਖਾ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
satigur mēlē tā mil rahā sāch rakhā ur dhār .
The True Guru unites her, and so she remains united with Him, with the True Lord enshrined within her heart.
ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਵੀਛੁੜੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੧੪॥
miliā hōi n vīshurai gur kai hēt piār .14.
And so united, she will not be separated again; she remains in the love and affection of the Guru. ||14||
ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੇ ਭੀ ਮਿਲਨਿ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੰਨਿ ॥
chirī vishunnē bhī milan jō satigur sēvann .
Even those who have been separated for so very long, are reunited with Him, when they serve the True Guru.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਖਾਨਿ ਖਰਚਨਿ ਨ ਨਿਖੁਟਈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਹਜਿ ਰਵੰਨਿ ॥੩੨॥
antar nav nidh nām hai khān kharachan n nikhutaī har gun sahaj ravann .32.
The nine treasures of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are deep within the nucleus of the self; consuming them, they are still never exhausted. Chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord, with natural ease. ||32||
ਪਿਰੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
pir sālāhī āpanā gur kai sabad vīchār .
I praise my Husband Lord, contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤੀ ਨਾਰਿ ॥੧੫॥
mil prītam sukh pāiā sōbhāvantī nār .15.
Meeting with my Beloved, I have found peace; I am His most beautiful and happy soul-bride. ||15||
ਨਾ ਓਇ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਨਾ ਮਰਹਿ ਨਾ ਓਇ ਦੁਖ ਸਹੰਨਿ ॥
nā ōi janamah nā marah nā ōi dukh sahann .
They are not born, and they do not die; they do not suffer in pain.
ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਕੇਲ ਕਰੰਨਿ ॥੩੩॥
gur rākhē sē ubarē har siu kēl karann .33.
Those who are protected by the Guru are saved. They celebrate with the Lord. ||33||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਨੁ ਨ ਭਿਜਈ ਅਤਿ ਮੈਲੇ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਠੋਰ ॥
manamukh man n bhijaī at mailē chit kathōr .
The mind of the self-willed manmukh is not softened; his consciousness is totally polluted and stone-hearted.
ਸਪੈ ਦੁਧੁ ਪੀਆਈਐ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਿਸੁ ਨਿਕੋਰ ॥੧੬॥
sapai dudh pīāīai andar vis nikōr .16.
Even if the venomous snake is fed on milk, it shall still be filled with poison. ||16||
ਸਜਣ ਮਿਲੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਹਿ ਜਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਮਿਲੇ ਰਹੰਨਿ ॥
sajan milē n vishurah j anadin milē rahann .
Those who are united with the Lord, the True Friend, are not separated again; night and day, they remain blended with Him.
ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਜਾਣੀਅਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਲਹੰਨਿ ॥੩੪॥੧॥੩॥
is jag mah viralē jānīah nānak sach lahann .34.1.3.
In this world, only a rare few are known, O Nanak, to have obtained the True Lord. ||34||1||3||
ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖੀਐ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
āp karē kis ākhīai āpē bakhasanahār .
He Himself does - who else should I ask? He Himself is the Forgiving Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਉਤਰੈ ਤਾ ਸਚੁ ਬਣਿਆ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥੧੭॥
gur sabadī mail utarai tā sach baniā sīgār .17.
Through the Guru's Teachings, filth is washed away, and then, one is embellished with the ornament of Truth. ||17||
