Shalok, Third Mehl:
ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਉਚਾ ਕੂਕਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
pandit par par uchā kūkadā māiā mōh piār .
The Pandits, the religious scholars, read and read, and shout out loud, but they are attached to the love of Maya.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਨ ਚੀਨਈ ਮਨਿ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
antar braham n chīnaī man mūrakh gāvār .
They do not recognize God within themselves-they are so foolish and ignorant!
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਜਗਤੁ ਪਰਬੋਧਦਾ ਨਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
dūjai bhāi jagat parabōdhadā nā būjhai bīchār .
In the love of duality, they try to teach the world, but they do not understand meditative contemplation.
ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥੧॥
birathā janam gavāiā mar janmai vārō vār .1.
They lose their lives uselessly; they die, only to be re-born, over and over again. ||1||

Third Mehl:
ਜਿਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨੀ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਇਆ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਕਰਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
jinī satigur sēviā tinī nāu pāiā būjhah kar bīchār .
Those who serve the True Guru obtain the Name. Reflect on this and understand.
ਸਦਾ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਕੂਕ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥
sadā sānht sukh man vasai chūkai kūk pukār .
Eternal peace and joy abide in their minds; they abandon their cries and complaints.
ਆਪੈ ਨੋ ਆਪੁ ਖਾਇ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
āpai nō āp khāi man niramal hōvai gur sabadī vīchār .
Their identity consumes their identical identity, and their minds become pure by contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੨॥
nānak sabad ratē sē mukat hai har jīu hēt piār .2.
O Nanak, attuned to the Shabad, they are liberated. They love their Beloved Lord. ||2||

Pauree:
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਥਾਇ ॥
har kī sēvā saphal hai guramukh pāvai thāi .
Service to the Lord is fruitful; through it, the Gurmukh is honored and approved.
ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
jis har bhāvai tis gur milai sō har nām dhiāi .
That person, with whom the Lord is pleased, meets with the Guru, and meditates on the Name of the Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਲਘਾਇ ॥
gur sabadī har pāīai har pār laghāi .
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the Lord is found. The Lord carries us across.
ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਪੁਛਹੁ ਵੇਦਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
manahath kinai n pāiō pushah vēdā jāi .
Through stubborn-mindedness, none have found Him; go and consult the Vedas on this.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਏ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਇ ॥੧੦॥
nānak har kī sēvā sō karē jis laē har lāi .10.
O Nanak, he alone serves the Lord, whom the Lord attaches to Himself. ||10||
