Shalok, Third Mehl:
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਰੋਵੈ ॥
hukam n jānai bahutā rōvai .
One who does not know the Hukam of the Lord's Command cries out in terrible pain.
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਧੋਖਾ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਸੋਵੈ ॥
andar dhōkhā nīd n sōvai .
She is filled with deception, and she cannot sleep in peace.
ਜੇ ਧਨ ਖਸਮੈ ਚਲੈ ਰਜਾਈ ॥ ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਈ ॥
jē dhan khasamai chalai rajāī . dar ghar sōbhā mahal bulāī .
But if the soul-bride follows the Will of her Lord and Master, she shall be honored in her own home, and called to the Mansion of His Presence.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਮੀ ਇਹ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
nānak karamī ih mat pāī .
O Nanak, by His Mercy, this understanding is obtained.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥
gur parasādī sach samāī .1.
By Guru's Grace, she is absorbed into the True One. ||1||

Third Mehl:
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣਿਆ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਸੁੰਭਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਨ ਭੁਲੁ ॥
manamukh nām vihūniā rang kasunbhā dēkh n bhul .
O self-willed manmukh, devoid of the Naam, do not be misled upon beholding the color of the safflower.
ਇਸ ਕਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਦਿਨ ਥੋੜਿਆ ਛੋਛਾ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮੁਲੁ ॥
is kā rang din thōriā shōshā is dā mul .
Its color lasts for only a few days-it is worthless!
ਦੂਜੈ ਲਗੇ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਏ ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਧ ਗਵਾਰ ॥
dūjai lagē pach muē mūrakh andh gavār .
Attached to duality, the foolish, blind and stupid people waste away and die.
ਬਿਸਟਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕੀਟ ਸੇ ਪਇ ਪਚਹਿ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥
bisatā andar kīt sē pai pachah vārō vār .
Like worms, they live in manure, and in it, they die over and over again.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਰੰਗੁਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
nānak nām ratē sē rangulē gur kai sahaj subhāi .
O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam are dyed in the color of truth; they take on the intuitive peace and poise of the Guru.
ਭਗਤੀ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
bhagatī rang n utarai sahajē rahai samāi .2.
The color of devotional worship does not fade away; they remain intuitively absorbed in the Lord. ||2||

Pauree:
ਸਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਸਭ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸੰਬਾਹਿਆ ॥
sisat upāī sabh tudh āpē rijak sanbāhiā .
You created the entire universe, and You Yourself bring sustenance to it.
ਇਕਿ ਵਲੁ ਛਲੁ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਖਾਵਦੇ ਮੁਹਹੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਕੁਸਤੁ ਤਿਨੀ ਢਾਹਿਆ ॥
ik val shal kar kai khāvadē muhah kūr kusat tinī dhāhiā .
Some eat and survive by practicing fraud and deceit; from their mouths they drop falsehood and lies.
ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਓਤੈ ਕੰਮਿ ਓਇ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
tudh āpē bhāvai sō karah tudh ōtai kanm ōi lāiā .
As it pleases You, You assign them their tasks.
ਇਕਨਾ ਸਚੁ ਬੁਝਾਇਓਨੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਅਤੁਟ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਦੇਵਾਇਆ ॥
ikanā sach bujhāiōn tinā atut bhandār dēvāiā .
Some understand Truthfulness; they are given the inexhaustible treasure.
ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਿ ਖਾਹਿ ਤਿਨਾ ਸਫਲੁ ਹੈ ਅਚੇਤਾ ਹਥ ਤਡਾਇਆ ॥੮॥
har chēt khāh tinā saphal hai achētā hath tadāiā .8.
Those who eat by remembering the Lord are prosperous, while those who do not remember Him stretch out their hands in need. ||8||
