ਤਿਲੰਗ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥

Tilang, Fourth Mehl:
ਨਿਤ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ਬਫਾਵੈ ਦੁਰਮਤੀਆ ॥
nit nihaphal karam kamāi baphāvai duramatīā .
The evil-minded person continually does fruitless deeds, all puffed up with pride.
ਜਬ ਆਣੈ ਵਲਵੰਚ ਕਰਿ ਝੂਠੁ ਤਬ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਗੁ ਜਿਤੀਆ ॥੧॥
jab ānai valavanch kar jhūth tab jānai jag jitīā .1.
When he brings home what he has acquired, by practicing deception and falsehood, he thinks that he has conquered the world. ||1||
ਐਸਾ ਬਾਜੀ ਸੈਸਾਰੁ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ॥
aisā bājī saisār n chētai har nāmā .
Such is the drama of the world, that he does not contemplate the Lord's Name.
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਸਭੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਧਿਆਇ ਰਾਮਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
khin mah binasai sabh jhūth mērē man dhiāi rāmā . rahāu .
In an instant, all this false play shall perish; O my mind, meditate on the Lord. ||Pause||
ਸਾ ਵੇਲਾ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਆਇ ਕੰਟਕੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਗ੍ਰਸੈ ॥
sā vēlā chit n āvai jit āi kantak kāl grasai .
He does not think of that time, when Death, the Torturer, shall come and seize him.
ਤਿਸੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਏ ਛਡਾਇ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸੈ ॥੨॥੨॥
tis nānak laē shadāi jis kirapā kar hiradai vasai .2.2.
O Nanak, the Lord saves that one, within whose heart the Lord, in His Kind Mercy, dwells. ||2||2||
