ਦਿਨ ਤੇ ਪਹਰ ਪਹਰ ਤੇ ਘਰੀਆਂ ਆਵ ਘਟੈ ਤਨੁ ਛੀਜੈ ॥
din tē pahar pahar tē gharīānh āv ghatai tan shījai .
Day by day, hour by hour, life runs its course, and the body withers away.
ਕਾਲੁ ਅਹੇਰੀ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਧਿਕ ਜਿਉ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਵਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੧॥
kāl ahērī phirai badhik jiu kahah kavan bidh kījai .1.
Death, like a hunter, a butcher, is on the prowl; tell me, what can we do? ||1||
ਸੋ ਦਿਨੁ ਆਵਨ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
sō din āvan lāgā .
That day is rapidly approaching.
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਭਾਈ ਸੁਤ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਕਹਹੁ ਕੋਊ ਹੈ ਕਾ ਕਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
māt pitā bhāī sut banitā kahah kōū hai kā kā .1. rahāu .
Mother, father, siblings, children and spouse - tell me, who belongs to whom? ||1||Pause||
ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਜੋਤਿ ਕਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਬਰਤੈ ਆਪਾ ਪਸੂ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
jab lag jōt kāiā mah baratai āpā pasū n būjhai .
As long as the light remains in the body, the beast does not understand himself.
ਲਾਲਚ ਕਰੈ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਦ ਕਾਰਨ ਲੋਚਨ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ॥੨॥
lālach karai jīvan pad kāran lōchan kashū n sūjhai .2.
He acts in greed to maintain his life and status, and sees nothing with his eyes. ||2||
ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਛੋਡਹੁ ਮਨ ਕੇ ਭਰਮਾ ॥
kahat kabīr sunah rē prānī shōdah man kē bharamā .
Says Kabeer, listen, O mortal: Renounce the doubts of your mind.
ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਪਰਹੁ ਏਕ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਾਂ ॥੩॥੨॥
kēval nām japah rē prānī parah ēk kī saranānh .3.2.
Chant only the One Naam, the Name of the Lord, O mortal, and seek the Sanctuary of the One Lord. ||3||2||
