ਕਿਉ ਸਿਮਰੀ ਸਿਵਰਿਆ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਇ ॥
kiu simarī sivariā nahī jāi .
How can I remember the Lord in meditation? I cannot meditate on Him in remembrance.
ਤਪੈ ਹਿਆਉ ਜੀਅੜਾ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥
tapai hiāu jīarā bilalāi .
My heart is burning, and my soul is crying out in pain.
ਸਿਰਜਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
siraj savārē sāchā sōi .
The True Lord creates and adorns.
ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਸਰਿਐ ਚੰਗਾ ਕਿਉ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
tis visariai changā kiu hōi .1.
Forgetting Him, how can one be good? ||1||
ਹਿਕਮਤਿ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
hikamat hukam n pāiā jāi .
By clever tricks and commands, He cannot be found.
ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਮਿਲਉ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kiu kar sāch milau mērī māi .1. rahāu .
How am I to meet my True Lord, O my mother? ||1||Pause||
ਵਖਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਖਣ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਇ ॥
vakhar nām dēkhan kōī jāi .
How rare is the one who goes out, and searches for the merchandise of the Naam.
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਚਾਖੈ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਖਾਇ ॥
nā kō chākhai nā kō khāi .
No one tastes it, and no one eats it.
ਲੋਕਿ ਪਤੀਣੈ ਨਾ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
lōk patīnai nā pat hōi .
Honor is not obtained by trying to please other people.
ਤਾ ਪਤਿ ਰਹੈ ਰਾਖੈ ਜਾ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥
tā pat rahai rākhai jā sōi .2.
One's honor is preserved, only if the Lord preserves it. ||2||
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
jah dēkhā tah rahiā samāi .
Wherever I look, there I see Him, pervading and permeating.
ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਾਇ ॥
tudh bin dūjī nāhī jāi .
Without You, I have no other place of rest.
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਕਰੇ ਕੀਤੈ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਇ ॥
jē kō karē kītai kiā hōi .
He may try, but what can anyone do by his own doing?
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥
jis nō bakhasē sāchā sōi .3.
He alone is blessed, whom the True Lord forgives. ||3||
ਹੁਣਿ ਉਠਿ ਚਲਣਾ ਮੁਹਤਿ ਕਿ ਤਾਲਿ ॥
hun uth chalanā muhat k tāl .
Now, I shall have to get up and depart, in an instant, in the clapping of hands.
ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਦੇਸਾ ਗੁਣ ਨਹੀ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
kiā muh dēsā gun nahī nāl .
What face will I show the Lord? I have no virtue at all.
ਜੈਸੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤੈਸਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
jaisī nadar karē taisā hōi .
As is the Lord's Glance of Grace, so it is.
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥੪॥੧॥੩॥
vin nadarī nānak nahī kōi .4.1.3.
Without His Glance of Grace, O Nanak, no one is blessed. ||4||1||3||
