ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਕਪਟੁ ਮੁਖ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥
hridai kapat mukh giānī .
In his heart there is deception, and yet in his mouth are words of wisdom.
ਝੂਠੇ ਕਹਾ ਬਿਲੋਵਸਿ ਪਾਨੀ ॥੧॥
jhūthē kahā bilōvas pānī .1.
You are false - why are you churning water? ||1||
ਕਾਂਇਆ ਮਾਂਜਸਿ ਕਉਨ ਗੁਨਾਂ ॥
kānhiā mānhjas kaun gunānh .
Why do you bother to wash your body?
ਜਉ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਹੈ ਮਲਨਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jau ghat bhītar hai malanānh .1. rahāu .
Your heart is still full of filth. ||1||Pause||
ਲਉਕੀ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਨ੍ਹਾਈ ॥
laukī athasath tīrath nhāī .
The gourd may be washed at the sixty-eight sacred shrines,
ਕਉਰਾਪਨੁ ਤਊ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥
kaurāpan taū n jāī .2.
but even then, its bitterness is not removed. ||2||
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
kah kabīr bīchārī .
Says Kabeer after deep contemplation,
ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਾਰਿ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥੩॥੮॥
bhav sāgar tār murārī .3.8.
please help me cross over the terrifying world-ocean, O Lord, O Destroyer of ego. ||3||8||
