ਜਿਹ ਬਾਝੁ ਨ ਜੀਆ ਜਾਈ ॥
jih bājh n jīā jāī .
Without Him, we cannot even live;
ਜਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਘਾਲ ਅਘਾਈ ॥
jau milai t ghāl aghāī .
when we meet Him, then our task is completed.
ਸਦ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਭਲੋ ਕਹਾਂਹੀ ॥
sad jīvan bhalō kahānhhī .
People say it is good to live forever,
ਮੂਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੧॥
mūē bin jīvan nāhī .1.
but without dying, there is no life. ||1||
ਅਬ ਕਿਆ ਕਥੀਐ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
ab kiā kathīai giān bīchārā .
So now, what sort wisdom should I contemplate and preach?
ਨਿਜ ਨਿਰਖਤ ਗਤ ਬਿਉਹਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nij nirakhat gat biuhārā .1. rahāu .
As I watch, worldly things dissipate. ||1||Pause||
ਘਸਿ ਕੁੰਕਮ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਗਾਰਿਆ ॥
ghas kunkam chandan gāriā .
Saffron is ground up, and mixed with sandalwood;
ਬਿਨੁ ਨੈਨਹੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਆ ॥
bin nainah jagat nihāriā .
without eyes, the world is seen.
ਪੂਤਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਇਕੁ ਜਾਇਆ ॥
pūt pitā ik jāiā .
The son has given birth to his father;
ਬਿਨੁ ਠਾਹਰ ਨਗਰੁ ਬਸਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
bin thāhar nagar basāiā .2.
without a place, the city has been established. ||2||
ਜਾਚਕ ਜਨ ਦਾਤਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jāchak jan dātā pāiā .
The humble beggar has found the Great Giver,
ਸੋ ਦੀਆ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਖਾਇਆ ॥
sō dīā n jāī khāiā .
but he is unable to eat what he has been given.
ਛੋਡਿਆ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਮੂਕਾ ॥
shōdiā jāi n mūkā .
He cannot leave it alone, but it is never exhausted.
ਅਉਰਨ ਪਹਿ ਜਾਨਾ ਚੂਕਾ ॥੩॥
auran pah jānā chūkā .3.
He shall not go to beg from others any longer. ||3||
ਜੋ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਰਨਾ ਜਾਨੈ ॥ ਸੋ ਪੰਚ ਸੈਲ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
jō jīvan maranā jānai . sō panch sail sukh mānai .
Those select few, who know how to die while yet alive, enjoy great peace.
ਕਬੀਰੈ ਸੋ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
kabīrai sō dhan pāiā .
Kabeer has found that wealth;
ਹਰਿ ਭੇਟਤ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੬॥
har bhētat āp mitāiā .4.6.
meeting with the Lord, he has erased his self-conceit. ||4||6||
