ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
māiā mōh antar mal lāgai māiā kē vāpārā rām .
The filth of attachment to Maya clings to their hearts; they deal in Maya alone.
ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਜਗਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਆਵਣਿ ਜਾਣਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥
māiā kē vāpārā jagat piārā āvan jān dukh pāī .
They love to deal in Maya in this world; coming and going, they suffer in pain.
ਬਿਖੁ ਕਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗਾ ਬਿਸ੍ਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
bikh kā kīrā bikh siu lāgā bistā māh samāī .
The worm of poison is addicted to poison; it is immersed in manure.
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋਇ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
jō dhur likhiā sōi kamāvai kōi n mētanahārā .
He does what is pre-ordained for him; no one can erase his destiny.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਰਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਕੂਕਿ ਮੁਏ ਗਾਵਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
nānak nām ratē tin sadā sukh pāiā hōr mūrakh kūk muē gāvārā .3.
O Nanak, imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, lasting peace is found; the ignorant fools die screaming. ||3||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸੁਧਿ ਨ ਕਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
māiā mōh man rangiā mōh sudh n kāī rām .
Their minds are colored by emotional attachment to Maya; because of this emotional attachment, they do not understand.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗੀਐ ਦੂਜਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਜਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
guramukh ih man rangīai dūjā rang jāī rām .
The soul of the Gurmukh is imbued with the Lord's Love; the love of duality departs.
ਦੂਜਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਜਾਈ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਸਚਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
dūjā rang jāī sāch samāī sach bharē bhandārā .
The love of duality departs, and the soul merges in Truth; the warehouse is overflowing with Truth.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ਸਚਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
guramukh hōvai sōī būjhai sach savāranahārā .
One who becomes Gurmukh, comes to understand; the Lord embellishes him with Truth.
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥
āpē mēlē sō har milai hōr kahanā kishū n jāē .
He alone merges with the Lord, whom the Lord causes to merge; nothing else can be said or done.
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਇਕਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਏ ॥੪॥੫॥
nānak vin nāvai bharam bhulāiā ik nām ratē rang lāē .4.5.
O Nanak, without the Name, one is deluded by doubt; but some, imbued with the Name, enshrine love for the Lord. ||4||5||
ਵਡਹੰਸੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

ਸਚਾ ਸਉਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਸਚਾ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
sachā saudā har nām hai sachā vāpārā rām .
The True merchandise is the Lord's Name. This is the true trade.
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਣਜੀਐ ਅਤਿ ਮੋਲੁ ਅਫਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
guramatī har nām vanajīai at mōl aphārā rām .
Under Guru's Instruction, we trade in the Lord's Name; its value is very great.
ਅਤਿ ਮੋਲੁ ਅਫਾਰਾ ਸਚ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਸਚਿ ਵਾਪਾਰਿ ਲਗੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥
at mōl aphārā sach vāpārā sach vāpār lagē vadabhāgī .
The value of this true trade is very great; those who are engaged in the true trade are very fortunate.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
antar bāhar bhagatī rātē sach nām liv lāgī .
Inwardly and outwardly, they are imbued with devotion, and they enshrine love for the True Name.
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
nadar karē sōī sach pāē gur kai sabad vīchārā .
One who is blessed with the Lord's Favor, obtains Truth, and reflects upon the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਾਚੈ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
nānak nām ratē tin hī sukh pāiā sāchai kē vāpārā .1.
O Nanak, those who are imbued with the Name find peace; they deal only in the True Name. ||1||
ਹੰਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੈਲੁ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੈਲੁ ਭਰੀਜੈ ਰਾਮ ॥
hanumai māiā mail hai māiā mail bharījai rām .
Egotistical involvement in Maya is filth; Maya is overflowing with filth.
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ਰਾਮ ॥
guramatī man niramalā rasanā har ras pījai rām .
Under Guru's Instruction, the mind is made pure and the tongue tastes the subtle essence of the Lord.
ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਭੀਜੈ ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
rasanā har ras pījai antar bhījai sāch sabad bīchārī .
The tongue tastes the subtle essence of the Lord, and deep within, the heart is drenched with His Love, contemplating the True Word of the Shabad.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਖੂਹਟਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਭਰਿਆ ਸਬਦੇ ਕਾਢਿ ਪੀਐ ਪਨਿਹਾਰੀ ॥
antar khūhatā anmrit bhariā sabadē kādh pīai panihārī .
Deep within, the well of the heart is overflowing with the Lord's Ambrosial Nectar; the water-carrier draws and drinks in the water of the Shabad.
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਸਚਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਰਸਨਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਵੀਜੈ ॥
jis nadar karē sōī sach lāgai rasanā rām ravījai .
One who is blessed with the Lord's favor is attuned to the Truth; with his tongue, he chants the Lord's Name.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੋਰ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਭਰੀਜੈ ॥੨॥
nānak nām ratē sē niramal hōr haumai mail bharījai .2.
O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are immaculate. The others are full of the filth of egotism. ||2||
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਜੋਤਕੀ ਸਭਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਕੂਕਦੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
pandit jōtakī sabh par par kūkadē kis pah karah pukārā rām .
All the religious scholars and astrologers read and study, and argue and shout. Who are they trying to teach?
