ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਏ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਲਾਹਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਸੈਸਾਰੇ ॥
gun mah gunī samāē jis āp bujhāē lāhā bhagat saisārē .
One's virtues merge into the virtues of the Lord; he comes to understand his own self. He earns the profit of devotional worship in this world.
ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਦੂਜੈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੇ ॥
bin bhagatī sukh n hōī dūjai pat khōī guramat nām adhārē .
Without devotion, there is no peace; through duality, one's honor is lost, but under Guru's Instruction, he is blessed with the Support of the Naam.
ਵਖਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਲਾਭੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਏਤੁ ਵਾਪਾਰਿ ਲਾਏ ॥
vakhar nām sadā lābh hai jis nō ēt vāpār lāē .
He ever earns the profit of the merchandise of the Naam, whom the Lord employs in this Trade.
ਰਤਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਵਣਜੀਅਹਿ ਜਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥੧॥
ratan padārath vanajīah jānh satigur dēi bujhāē .1.
He purchases the jewel, the invaluable treasure, unto whom the True Guru has given this understanding. ||1||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਖੋਟਾ ਇਹੁ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
māiā mōh sabh dukh hai khōtā ih vāpārā rām .
The love of Maya is totally painful; this is a bad deal.
ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਵਣੀ ਬਹੁ ਵਧਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
kūr bōl bikh khāvanī bah vadhah vikārā rām .
Speaking falsehood, one eats poison, and the evil within increases greatly.
ਬਹੁ ਵਧਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ਸਹਸਾ ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥
bah vadhah vikārā sahasā ih sansārā bin nāvai pat khōī .
The evil within increases greatly, in this world of doubt; without the Name, one's honor is lost.
ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਵਾਦੁ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
par par pandit vād vakhānah bin būjhē sukh n hōī .
Reading and studying, the religious scholars argue and debate; but without understanding, there is no peace.
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਚੂਕੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥
āvan jānā kadē n chūkai māiā mōh piārā .
Their comings and goings never end; emotional attachment to Maya is dear to them.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਖੋਟਾ ਇਹੁ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
māiā mōh sabh dukh hai khōtā ih vāpārā .2.
The love of Maya is totally painful; this is a bad deal. ||2||
ਖੋਟੇ ਖਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਪਰਖੀਅਨਿ ਤਿਤੁ ਸਚੇ ਕੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
khōtē kharē sabh parakhīan tit sachē kai darabārā rām .
The counterfeit and the genuine are all assayed in the Court of the True Lord.
ਖੋਟੇ ਦਰਗਹ ਸੁਟੀਅਨਿ ਊਭੇ ਕਰਨਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
khōtē daragah sutīan ūbhē karan pukārā rām .
The counterfeit are cast out of the Court, and they stand there, crying out in misery.
ਊਭੇ ਕਰਨਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਾ ਮੁਗਧ ਗਵਾਰਾ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
ūbhē karan pukārā mugadh gavārā manamukh janam gavāiā .
They stand there, crying out in misery; the foolish, idiotic, self-willed manmukhs have wasted their lives.
ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
bikhiā māiā jin jagat bhulāiā sāchā nām n bhāiā .
Maya is the poison which has deluded the world; it does not love the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸੰਤਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਵੈਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਖਟੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
manamukh santā nāl vair kar dukh khatē sansārā .
The self-willed manmukhs are resentful toward the Saints; they harvest only pain in this world.
ਖੋਟੇ ਖਰੇ ਪਰਖੀਅਨਿ ਤਿਤੁ ਸਚੈ ਦਰਵਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥੩॥
khōtē kharē parakhīan tit sachai daravārā rām .3.
The counterfeit and the genuine are assayed in that True Court of the Lord. ||3||
ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖੀਐ ਹੋਰੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
āp karē kis ākhīai hōr karanā kishū n jāī rām .
He Himself acts; who else should I ask? No one else can do anything.
ਜਿਤੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਸੀ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
jit bhāvai tit lāisī jiu tis dī vadiāī rām .
As He pleases, He engages us; such is His glorious greatness.
ਜਿਉ ਤਿਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਈ ਵਰੀਆਮੁ ਨ ਫੁਸੀ ਕੋਈ ॥
jiu tis dī vadiāī āp karāī varīām n phusī kōī .
Such is His glorious greatness - He Himself causes all to act; no one is a warrior or a coward.
ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਕਰਮਿ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਸੋਈ ॥
jagajīvan dātā karam bidhātā āpē bakhasē sōī .
The Life of the World, the Great Giver, the Architect of karma - He Himself grants forgiveness.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
gur parasādī āp gavāīai nānak nām pat pāī .
By Guru's Grace, self-conceit is eradicated, O Nanak, and through the Naam, honor is obtained.
ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖੀਐ ਹੋਰੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੪॥੪॥
āp karē kis ākhīai hōr karanā kishū n jāī .4.4.
He Himself acts; who else should I ask? No one else can do anything. ||4||4||
ਵਡਹੰਸੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

ਰਤਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਵਣਜੀਅਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥

ਲਾਹਾ ਲਾਭੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
lāhā lābh har bhagat hai gun mah gunī samāī rām .
The profit of profits is the devotional worship of the Lord; one's virtues merge into the virtues of the Lord.
