Shalok:
ਕਬੀਰਾ ਮਰਤਾ ਮਰਤਾ ਜਗੁ ਮੁਆ ਮਰਿ ਭਿ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
kabīrā maratā maratā jag muā mar bh n jānai kōi .
Kabeer, the world is dying - dying to death, but no one knows how to truly die.
ਐਸੀ ਮਰਨੀ ਜੋ ਮਰੈ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਮਰਨਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
aisī maranī jō marai bahur n maranā hōi .1.
Whoever dies, let him die such a death, that he does not have to die again. ||1||

Third Mehl:
ਕਿਆ ਜਾਣਾ ਕਿਵ ਮਰਹਗੇ ਕੈਸਾ ਮਰਣਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
kiā jānā kiv marahagē kaisā maranā hōi .
What do I know? How will I die? What sort of death will it be?
ਜੇ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮਨਹੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਤਾ ਸਹਿਲਾ ਮਰਣਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
jē kar sāhib manah n vīsarai tā sahilā maranā hōi .
If I do not forget the Lord Master from my mind, then my death will be easy.
ਮਰਣੈ ਤੇ ਜਗਤੁ ਡਰੈ ਜੀਵਿਆ ਲੋੜੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
maranai tē jagat darai jīviā lōrai sabh kōi .
The world is terrified of death; everyone longs to live.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
gur parasādī jīvat marai hukamai būjhai sōi .
By Guru's Grace, one who dies while yet alive, understands the Lord's Will.
ਨਾਨਕ ਐਸੀ ਮਰਨੀ ਜੋ ਮਰੈ ਤਾ ਸਦ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
nānak aisī maranī jō marai tā sad jīvan hōi .2.
O Nanak, one who dies such a death, lives forever. ||2||

Pauree:
ਜਾ ਆਪਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਾ ਆਪਣਾਂ ਨਾਉ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਜਪਾਵੈ ॥
jā āp kripāl hōvai har suāmī tā āpanānh nāu har āp japāvai .
When the Lord Master Himself becomes merciful, the Lord Himself causes His Name to be chanted.
ਆਪੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਆਪਣਾਂ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਆਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
āpē satigur mēl sukh dēvai āpanānh sēvak āp har bhāvai .
He Himself causes us to meet the True Guru, and blesses us with peace. His servant is pleasing to the Lord.
ਆਪਣਿਆ ਸੇਵਕਾ ਕੀ ਆਪਿ ਪੈਜ ਰਖੈ ਆਪਣਿਆ ਭਗਤਾ ਕੀ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
āpaniā sēvakā kī āp paij rakhai āpaniā bhagatā kī pairī pāvai .
He Himself preserves the honor of His servants; He causes others to fall at the feet of His devotees.
ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
dharam rāi hai har kā kīā har jan sēvak nēr n āvai .
The Righteous Judge of Dharma is a creation of the Lord; he does not approach the humble servant of the Lord.
ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਸੋ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੇਤੀ ਝਖਿ ਝਖਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੧੭॥
jō har kā piārā sō sabhanā kā piārā hōr kētī jhakh jhakh āvai jāvai .17.
One who is dear to the Lord, is dear to all; so many others come and go in vain. ||17||
