Guru Amar Das Ji (1479–1574) was the third Sikh Guru. He became a Sikh at the age of 62 after hearing the recitation of Japji Sahib by his daughter-in-law, Bibi Amro (daughter of Guru Angad Dev Ji).

- Established the Manji system — 22 dioceses for organising the growing Sikh community
- Institutionalised Langar — mandating that anyone wishing to meet the Guru must first eat in the communal kitchen, reinforcing equality. Even Emperor Akbar sat on the floor and ate before meeting the Guru
- Campaigned against sati (widow burning) and the caste system
- Constructed the Baoli at Goindwal — a 84-step sacred well
Bani in SGGS Guru Amar Das Ji composed 907 hymns in 17 raags, the third-largest contribution to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
