ਸਤਜੁਗਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
satajug sach kahai sabh kōī .
In the Golden Age of Sat Yuga, everyone spoke the Truth.
ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
ghar ghar bhagat guramukh hōī .
In each and every home, devotional worship was performed by the people, according to the Guru's Teachings.
ਸਤਜੁਗਿ ਧਰਮੁ ਪੈਰ ਹੈ ਚਾਰਿ ॥
satajug dharam pair hai chār .
In that Golden Age, Dharma had four feet.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
guramukh būjhai kō bīchār .1.
How rare are those people who, as Gurmukh, contemplate this and understand. ||1||
ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੋਈ ॥
jug chārē nām vadiāī hōī .
In all four ages, the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is glory and greatness.
ਜਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਸੋ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
j nām lāgai sō mukat hōvai gur bin nām n pāvai kōī .1. rahāu .
One who holds tight to the Naam is liberated; without the Guru, no one obtains the Naam. ||1||Pause||
ਤ੍ਰੇਤੈ ਇਕ ਕਲ ਕੀਨੀ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
trētai ik kal kīnī dūr .
In the Silver Age of Traytaa Yuga, one leg was removed.
ਪਾਖੰਡੁ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਣਨਿ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
pākhand varatiā har jānan dūr .
Hypocrisy became prevalent, and people thought that the Lord was far away.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਈ ॥
guramukh būjhai sōjhī hōī .
The Gurmukhs still understood and realized;
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੨॥
antar nām vasai sukh hōī .2.
the Naam abided deep within them, and they were at peace. ||2||
ਦੁਆਪੁਰਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
duāpur dūjai dubidhā hōi .
In the Brass Age of Dwaapur Yuga, duality and double-mindedness arose.
ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਨੇ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਦੋਇ ॥
bharam bhulānē jānah dōi .
Deluded by doubt, they knew duality.
ਦੁਆਪੁਰਿ ਧਰਮਿ ਦੁਇ ਪੈਰ ਰਖਾਏ ॥
duāpur dharam dui pair rakhāē .
In this Brass Age, Dharma was left with only two feet.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥੩॥
guramukh hōvai t nām drirāē .3.
Those who became Gurmukh implanted the Naam deep within. ||3||
ਕਲਜੁਗਿ ਧਰਮ ਕਲਾ ਇਕ ਰਹਾਏ ॥
kalajug dharam kalā ik rahāē .
In the Iron Age of Kali Yuga, Dharma was left with only one power.
ਇਕ ਪੈਰਿ ਚਲੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਧਾਏ ॥
ik pair chalai māiā mōh vadhāē .
It walks on just one foot; love and emotional attachment to Maya have increased.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਅਤਿ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥
māiā mōh at gubār .
Love and emotional attachment to Maya bring total darkness.
ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
satagur bhētai nām udhār .4.
If someone meets the True Guru, he is saved, through the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||
ਸਭ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਈ ॥
sabh jug mah sāchā ēkō sōī .
Throughout the ages, there is only the One True Lord.
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਈ ॥
sabh mah sach dūjā nahī kōī .
Among all, is the True Lord; there is no other at all.
ਸਾਚੀ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
sāchī kīrat sach sukh hōī .
Praising the True Lord, true peace is attained.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੫॥
guramukh nām vakhānai kōī .5.
How rare are those, who as Gurmukh, chant the Naam. ||5||
ਸਭ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਊਤਮੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
sabh jug mah nām ūtam hōī .
Throughout all the ages, the Naam is the ultimate, the most sublime.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
guramukh viralā būjhai kōī .
How rare are those, who as Gurmukh, understand this.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਭਗਤੁ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
har nām dhiāē bhagat jan sōī .
One who meditates on the Lord's Name is a humble devotee.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੋਈ ॥੬॥੧॥
nānak jug jug nām vadiāī hōī .6.1.
O Nanak, in each and every age, the Naam is glory and greatness. ||6||1||

ਜੇ ਵਡ ਭਾਗ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥
jē vad bhāg hōvah vadabhāgī tā har har nām dhiāvai .
If someone is very fortunate, and is blessed with great high destiny, then he meditates on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਨਾਮੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
nām japat nāmē sukh pāvai har nāmē nām samāvai .1.
Chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, he finds peace, and merges in the Naam. ||1||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਸਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ॥
guramukh bhagat karah sad prānī .
O mortal, as Gurmukh, worship the Lord in devotion forever.
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
hiradai pragās hōvai liv lāgai guramat har har nām samānī .1. rahāu .
Your heart shall be illumined; through the Guru's Teachings, lovingly attune yourself to the Lord. You shall merge in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||Pause||
ਹੀਰਾ ਰਤਨ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਮਾਣਕ ਬਹੁ ਸਾਗਰ ਭਰਪੂਰੁ ਕੀਆ ॥
hīrā ratan javēhar mānak bah sāgar bharapūr kīā .
The Great Giver is filled with diamonds, emeralds, rubies and pearls;
ਜਿਸੁ ਵਡ ਭਾਗੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਵਡ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਤਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਕਢਿ ਕਢਿ ਲੀਆ ॥੨॥
jis vad bhāg hōvai vad masatak tin guramat kadh kadh līā .2.
one who has good fortune and great destiny inscribed upon his forehead, digs them out, by following the Guru's Teachings. ||2||
ਰਤਨੁ ਜਵੇਹਰੁ ਲਾਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਕਾਢਿ ਤਲੀ ਦਿਖਲਾਇਆ ॥
ratan javēhar lāl har nāmā gur kādh talī dikhalāiā .
The Lord's Name is the jewel, the emerald, the ruby; digging it out, the Guru has placed it in your palm.
ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਨਹੀ ਲੀਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਣ ਓਲੈ ਲਾਖੁ ਛਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
bhāgahīn manamukh nahī līā trin ōlai lākh shapāiā .3.
The unfortunate, self-willed manmukh does not obtain it; this priceless jewel remains hidden behind a curtain of straw. ||3||
ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਾ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਏ ॥
masatak bhāg hōvai dhur likhiā tā satagur sēvā lāē .
If such pre-ordained destiny is written upon one's forehead, then the True Guru enjoins him to serve Him.
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਤਨ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਪਾਵੈ ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥੧॥
nānak ratan javēhar pāvai dhan dhan guramat har pāē .4.1.
O Nanak, then he obtains the jewel, the gem; blessed, blessed is that one who follows the Guru's Teachings, and finds the Lord. ||4||1||

ਰਾਮ ਜਨਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਇਆ ਅਨੰਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਨੀਕੀ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਨਾਇ ॥
rām janā mil bhaiā anandā har nīkī kathā sunāi .
Meeting with the humble servants of the Lord, I am in ecstasy; they preach the sublime sermon of the Lord.
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਗਈ ਸਭ ਨੀਕਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥
duramat mail gaī sabh nīkal satasangat mil budh pāi .1.
The filth of evil-mindedness is totally washed away; joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, one is blessed with understanding. ||1||
