Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehl:
ਅਉਖੀ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਦੇਖਣ ਦੇਈ ਅਪਨਾ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥
aukhī gharī n dēkhan dēī apanā birad samālē .
He does not let His devotees see the difficult times; this is His innate nature.
ਹਾਥ ਦੇਇ ਰਾਖੈ ਅਪਨੇ ਕਉ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੇ ॥੧॥
hāth dēi rākhai apanē kau sās sās pratipālē .1.
Giving His hand, He protects His devotee; with each and every breath, He cherishes him. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਮੇਰਾ ਚੀਤੁ ॥
prabh siu lāg rahiō mērā chīt .
My consciousness remains attached to God.
ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਹਾਈ ਧੰਨੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਮੀਤੁ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ād ant prabh sadā sahāī dhann hamārā mīt . rahāu .
In the beginning, and in the end, God is always my helper and companion; blessed is my friend. ||Pause||
ਮਨਿ ਬਿਲਾਸ ਭਏ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੇ ਅਚਰਜ ਦੇਖਿ ਬਡਾਈ ॥
man bilās bhaē sāhib kē acharaj dēkh badāī .
My mind is delighted, gazing upon the marvellous, glorious greatness of the Lord and Master.
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਆਨਦ ਕਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਾਈ ॥੨॥੧੫॥੪੬॥
har simar simar ānad kar nānak prabh pūran paij rakhāī .2.15.46.
Remembering, remembering the Lord in meditation, Nanak is in ecstasy; God, in His perfection, has protected and preserved his honor. ||2||15||46||

Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehl:
ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਪਤਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੋਈ ਗਨਹੁ ਅਭਾਗਾ ॥
jis kau bisarai prānapat dātā sōī ganah abhāgā .
One who forgets the Lord of life, the Great Giver - know that he is most unfortunate.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਗਿਓ ਅਮਿਅ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਪਾਗਾ ॥੧॥
charan kamal jā kā man rāgiō ami sarōvar pāgā .1.
One whose mind is in love with the Lord's lotus feet, obtains the pool of ambrosial nectar. ||1||
ਤੇਰਾ ਜਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗਿ ਜਾਗਾ ॥
tērā jan rām nām rang jāgā .
Your humble servant awakes in the Love of the Lord's Name.
ਆਲਸੁ ਛੀਜਿ ਗਇਆ ਸਭੁ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ālas shīj gaiā sabh tan tē prītam siu man lāgā . rahāu .
All laziness has departed from his body, and his mind is attached to the Beloved Lord. ||Pause||
ਜਹ ਜਹ ਪੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਮਹਿ ਤਾਗਾ ॥
jah jah pēkhau tah nārāin sagal ghatā mah tāgā .
Wherever I look, the Lord is there; He is the string, upon which all hearts are strung.
ਨਾਮ ਉਦਕੁ ਪੀਵਤ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਆਗੇ ਸਭਿ ਅਨੁਰਾਗਾ ॥੨॥੧੬॥੪੭॥
nām udak pīvat jan nānak tiāgē sabh anurāgā .2.16.47.
Drinking in the water of the Naam, servant Nanak has renounced all other loves. ||2||16||47||

Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehl:
ਜਨ ਕੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਏ ਕਾਮ ॥
jan kē pūran hōē kām .
All the affairs of the Lord's humble servant are perfectly resolved.
ਕਲੀ ਕਾਲ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਹਿ ਲਜਾ ਰਾਖੀ ਰਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kalī kāl mahā bikhiā mah lajā rākhī rām .1. rahāu .
In the utterly poisonous Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Lord preserves and protects his honor. ||1||Pause||
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਮ ॥
simar simar suāmī prabh apunā nikat n āvai jām .
Remembering, remembering God, his Lord and Master in meditation, the Messenger of Death does not approach him.
ਮੁਕਤਿ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਜਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਧਾਮ ॥੧॥
mukat baikunth sādh kī sangat jan pāiō har kā dhām .1.
Liberation and heaven are found in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; his humble servant finds the home of the Lord. ||1||
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਥਾਤੀ ਕੋਟਿ ਸੂਖ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ॥
charan kamal har jan kī thātī kōt sūkh bisrām .
The Lord's lotus feet are the treasure of His humble servant; in them, he finds millions of pleasures and comforts.
ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਦਮੋਦਰ ਸਿਮਰਉ ਦਿਨ ਰੈਨਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ॥੨॥੧੭॥੪੮॥
gōbind damōdar simarau din rain nānak sad kurabān .2.17.48.
He remembers the Lord God in meditation, day and night; Nanak is forever a sacrifice to him. ||2||17||48||
ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehl:
ਮਾਂਗਉ ਰਾਮ ਤੇ ਇਕੁ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
mānhgau rām tē ik dān .
I beg for one gift only from the Lord.
ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਸਿਮਰਉ ਤੁਮਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sagal manōrath pūran hōvah simarau tumarā nām .1. rahāu .
May all my desires be fulfilled, meditating on, and remembering Your Name, O Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਚਰਨ ਤੁਮ੍ਹਾਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਾਸਹਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ਪਾਵਉ ॥
charan tumhārē hiradai vāsah santan kā sang pāvau .
May Your feet abide within my heart, and may I find the Society of the Saints.
ਸੋਗ ਅਗਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਉ ॥੧॥
sōg agan mah man n viāpai āth pahar gun gāvau .1.
May my mind not be afflicted by the fire of sorrow; may I sing Your Glorious Praises, twenty-four hours a day. ||1||
ਸ੍ਵਸਤਿ ਬਿਵਸਥਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਮਧ੍ਯੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਾਪਣ ॥
svasat bivasathā har kī sēvā madhyant prabh jāpan .
May I serve the Lord in my childhood and youth, and meditate on God in my middle and old age.
ਨਾਨਕ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਗਾ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਜਨਮ ਨ ਛਾਪਣ ॥੨॥੧੮॥੪੯॥
nānak rang lagā paramēsar bāhur janam n shāpan .2.18.49.
O Nanak, one who is imbued with the Love of the Transcendent Lord, is not reincarnated again to die. ||2||18||49||

Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehl:
ਮਾਂਗਉ ਰਾਮ ਤੇ ਸਭਿ ਥੋਕ ॥
mānhgau rām tē sabh thōk .
I beg only from the Lord for all things.
ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕਉ ਜਾਚਤ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਮੋਖ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mānukh kau jāchat sram pāīai prabh kai simaran mōkh .1. rahāu .
I would hesitate to beg from other people. Remembering God in meditation, liberation is obtained. ||1||Pause||
ਘੋਖੇ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਪੁਰਾਨਾਂ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਕਾਰਹਿ ਘੋਖ ॥
ghōkhē mun jan sinmrit purānānh bēd pukārah ghōkh .
I have studied with the silent sages, and carefully read the Simritees, the Puraanas and the Vedas; they all proclaim that,
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਦੋਵੈ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ਲੋਕ ॥੧॥
kripā sindh sēv sach pāīai dōvai suhēlē lōk .1.
by serving the Lord, the ocean of mercy, Truth is obtained, and both this world and the next are embellished. ||1||
ਆਨ ਅਚਾਰ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ਹੈ ਜੇਤੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਫੋਕ ॥
ān achār biuhār hai jētē bin har simaran phōk .
All other rituals and customs are useless, without remembering the Lord in meditation.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਭੈ ਕਾਟੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸੋਕ ॥੨॥੧੯॥੫੦॥
nānak janam maran bhai kātē mil sādhū binasē sōk .2.19.50.
O Nanak, the fear of birth and death has been removed; meeting the Holy Saint, sorrow is dispelled. ||2||19||50||

ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਬੁਝੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ॥
trisanā bujhai har kai nām .
Desire is quenched, through the Lord's Name.
ਮਹਾ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mahā santōkh hōvai gur bachanī prabh siu lāgai pūran dhiān .1. rahāu .
Great peace and contentment come through the Guru's Word, and one's meditation is perfectly focused upon God. ||1||Pause||
