ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਜਾਟਰੋ ਉਠਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
ih bidh sun kai jātarō uth bhagatī lāgā .
Hearing this, Dhanna the Jaat applied himself to devotional worship.
ਮਿਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਖਿ ਗੁਸਾਈਆ ਧੰਨਾ ਵਡਭਾਗਾ ॥੪॥੨॥
milē pratakh gusāīā dhannā vadabhāgā .4.2.
The Lord of the Universe met him personally; Dhanna was so very blessed. ||4||2||
ਰੇ ਚਿਤ ਚੇਤਸਿ ਕੀ ਨ ਦਯਾਲ ਦਮੋਦਰ ਬਿਬਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਨਸਿ ਕੋਈ ॥
rē chit chētas kī n dayāl damōdar bibah n jānas kōī .
O my consciousness, why don't you remain conscious of the Merciful Lord? How can you recognize any other?
ਜੇ ਧਾਵਹਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਖੰਡ ਕਉ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੈ ਸੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jē dhāvah brahamand khand kau karatā karai s hōī .1. rahāu .
You may run around the whole universe, but that alone happens which the Creator Lord does. ||1||Pause||
ਜਨਨੀ ਕੇਰੇ ਉਦਰ ਉਦਕ ਮਹਿ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਕੀਆ ਦਸ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥
jananī kērē udar udak mah pind kīā das duārā .
In the water of the mother's womb, He fashioned the body with ten gates.
ਦੇਇ ਅਹਾਰੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਐਸਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
dēi ahār agan mah rākhai aisā khasam hamārā .1.
He gives it sustenance, and preserves it in fire - such is my Lord and Master. ||1||
ਕੁੰਮੀ ਜਲ ਮਾਹਿ ਤਨ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਪੰਖ ਖੀਰੁ ਤਿਨ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
kunmī jal māh tan tis bāhar pankh khīr tin nāhī .
The mother turtle is in the water, and her babies are out of the water. She has no wings to protect them, and no milk to feed them.
ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦ ਮਨੋਹਰ ਸਮਝਿ ਦੇਖੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥੨॥
pūran paramānand manōhar samajh dēkh man māhī .2.
The Perfect Lord, the embodiment of supreme bliss, the Fascinating Lord takes care of them. See this, and understand it in your mind||2||
ਪਾਖਣਿ ਕੀਟੁ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਹੋਇ ਰਹਤਾ ਤਾ ਚੋ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
pākhan kīt gupat hōi rahatā tā chō mārag nāhī .
The worm lies hidden under the stone - there is no way for him to escape.
ਕਹੈ ਧੰਨਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਤਾਹੂ ਕੋ ਮਤ ਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਡਰਾਂਹੀ ॥੩॥੩॥
kahai dhannā pūran tāhū kō mat rē jī darānhhī .3.3.
Says Dhanna, the Perfect Lord takes care of him. Fear not, O my soul. ||3||3||
ਆਸਾ ਸੇਖ ਫਰੀਦ ਜੀਉ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ
āsā sēkh pharīd jīu kī bānī

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik ōunkār satigur prasād .
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਦਿਲਹੁ ਮੁਹਬਤਿ ਜਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਸੇਈ ਸਚਿਆ ॥
dilah muhabat jinnh sēī sachiā .
They alone are true, whose love for God is deep and heart-felt.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਰੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਰੁ ਸਿ ਕਾਂਢੇ ਕਚਿਆ ॥੧॥
jinh man hōr mukh hōr s kānhdhē kachiā .1.
Those who have one thing in their heart, and something else in their mouth, are judged to be false. ||1||
ਰਤੇ ਇਸਕ ਖੁਦਾਇ ਰੰਗਿ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਕੇ ॥
ratē isak khudāi rang dīdār kē .
Those who are imbued with love for the Lord, are delighted by His Vision.
ਵਿਸਰਿਆ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇ ਭੁਇ ਭਾਰੁ ਥੀਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
visariā jinh nām tē bhui bhār thīē .1. rahāu .
Those who forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are a burden on the earth. ||1||Pause||
ਆਪਿ ਲੀਏ ਲੜਿ ਲਾਇ ਦਰਿ ਦਰਵੇਸ ਸੇ ॥
āp līē lar lāi dar daravēs sē .
Those whom the Lord attaches to the hem of His robe, are the true dervishes at His Door.
ਤਿਨ ਧੰਨੁ ਜਣੇਦੀ ਮਾਉ ਆਏ ਸਫਲੁ ਸੇ ॥੨॥
tin dhann janēdī māu āē saphal sē .2.
Blessed are the mothers who gave birth to them, and fruitful is their coming into the world. ||2||
ਪਰਵਦਗਾਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਅਗਮ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਤੂ ॥
paravadagār apār agam bēant tū .
O Lord, Sustainer and Cherisher, You are infinite, unfathomable and endless.
ਜਿਨਾ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਸਚੁ ਚੁੰਮਾ ਪੈਰ ਮੂੰ ॥੩॥
jinā pashātā sach chunmā pair mūn .3.
Those who recognize the True Lord - I kiss their feet. ||3||
ਤੇਰੀ ਪਨਹ ਖੁਦਾਇ ਤੂ ਬਖਸੰਦਗੀ ॥
tērī panah khudāi tū bakhasandagī .
I seek Your Protection - You are the Forgiving Lord.
ਸੇਖ ਫਰੀਦੈ ਖੈਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਬੰਦਗੀ ॥੪॥੧॥
sēkh pharīdai khair dījai bandagī .4.1.
Please, bless Shaykh Fareed with the bounty of Your meditative worship. ||4||1||

Aasaa:
ਬੋਲੈ ਸੇਖ ਫਰੀਦੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਅਲਹ ਲਗੇ ॥
bōlai sēkh pharīd piārē alah lagē .
Says Shaykh Fareed, O my dear friend, attach yourself to the Lord.
ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਹੋਸੀ ਖਾਕ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਗੋਰ ਘਰੇ ॥੧॥
ih tan hōsī khāk nimānī gōr gharē .1.
This body shall turn to dust, and its home shall be a neglected graveyard. ||1||
ਆਜੁ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਸੇਖ ਫਰੀਦ ਟਾਕਿਮ ਕੂੰਜੜੀਆ ਮਨਹੁ ਮਚਿੰਦੜੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
āj milāvā sēkh pharīd tākim kūnjarīā manah machindarīā .1. rahāu .
You can meet the Lord today, O Shaykh Fareed, if you restrain your bird-like desires which keep your mind in turmoil. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਘੁਮਿ ਨ ਆਈਐ ॥
jē jānā mar jāīai ghum n āīai .
If I had known that I was to die, and not return again,
ਝੂਠੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਲਗਿ ਨ ਆਪੁ ਵਞਾਈਐ ॥੨॥
jhūthī dunīā lag n āp vañāīai .2.
I would not have ruined myself by clinging to the world of falsehood. ||2||
ਬੋਲੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਨ ਬੋਲੀਐ ॥
bōlīai sach dharam jhūth n bōlīai .
So speak the Truth, in righteousness, and do not speak falsehood.
ਜੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਦਸੈ ਵਾਟ ਮੁਰੀਦਾ ਜੋਲੀਐ ॥੩॥
jō gur dasai vāt murīdā jōlīai .3.
The disciple ought to travel the route, pointed out by the Guru. ||3||
ਛੈਲ ਲੰਘੰਦੇ ਪਾਰਿ ਗੋਰੀ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰਿਆ ॥
shail langhandē pār gōrī man dhīriā .
Seeing the youths being carried across, the hearts of the beautiful young soul-brides are encouraged.
ਕੰਚਨ ਵੰਨੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਕਲਵਤਿ ਚੀਰਿਆ ॥੪॥
kanchan vannē pāsē kalavat chīriā .4.
Those who side with the glitter of gold, are cut down with a saw. ||4||
ਸੇਖ ਹੈਯਾਤੀ ਜਗਿ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਥਿਰੁ ਰਹਿਆ ॥
sēkh haiyātī jag n kōī thir rahiā .
O Shaykh, no one's life is permanent in this world.
ਜਿਸੁ ਆਸਣਿ ਹਮ ਬੈਠੇ ਕੇਤੇ ਬੈਸਿ ਗਇਆ ॥੫॥
jis āsan ham baithē kētē bais gaiā .5.
That seat, upon which we now sit - many others sat on it and have since departed. ||5||
ਕਤਿਕ ਕੂੰਜਾਂ ਚੇਤਿ ਡਉ ਸਾਵਣਿ ਬਿਜੁਲੀਆਂ ॥
katik kūnjānh chēt dau sāvan bijulīānh .
As the swallows appear in the month of Katik, forest fires in the month of Chayt, and lightning in Saawan,
ਸੀਆਲੇ ਸੋਹੰਦੀਆਂ ਪਿਰ ਗਲਿ ਬਾਹੜੀਆਂ ॥੬॥
sīālē sōhandīānh pir gal bāharīānh .6.
and as the bride's arms adorn her husband's neck in winter;||6||
ਚਲੇ ਚਲਣਹਾਰ ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ਲੇਇ ਮਨੋ ॥
chalē chalanahār vichārā lēi manō .
Just so, the transitory human bodies pass away. Reflect upon this in your mind.
ਗੰਢੇਦਿਆਂ ਛਿਅ ਮਾਹ ਤੁੜੰਦਿਆ ਹਿਕੁ ਖਿਨੋ ॥੭॥
gandhēdiānh shi māh turandiā hik khinō .7.
It takes six months to form the body, but it breaks in an instant. ||7||
ਜਿਮੀ ਪੁਛੈ ਅਸਮਾਨ ਫਰੀਦਾ ਖੇਵਟ ਕਿੰਨਿ ਗਏ ॥
jimī pushai asamān pharīdā khēvat kinn gaē .
O Fareed, the earth asks the sky, "Where have the boatmen gone?"
ਜਾਲਣ ਗੋਰਾਂ ਨਾਲਿ ਉਲਾਮੇ ਜੀਅ ਸਹੇ ॥੮॥੨॥
jālan gōrānh nāl ulāmē jī sahē .8.2.
Some have been cremated, and some lie in their graves; their souls are suffering rebukes. ||8||2||
