ਜੈਸੇ ਮੀਠੈ ਸਾਦਿ ਲੋਭਾਏ ਝੂਠ ਧੰਧਿ ਦੁਰਗਾਧੇ ॥੨॥
jaisē mīthai sād lōbhāē jhūth dhandh duragādhē .2.
The sweet flavors tempt you, and you are occupied by your false and filthy business. ||2||
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਅਰੁ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਇਹ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਰਸਿ ਲਪਟਾਧੇ ॥
kām krōdh ar lōbh mōh ih indrī ras lapatādhē .
Your senses are beguiled by sensual pleasures of sex, by anger, greed and emotional attachment.
ਦੀਈ ਭਵਾਰੀ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਬਿਧਾਤੈ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਜਨਮਾਧੇ ॥੩॥
dīī bhavārī purakh bidhātai bahur bahur janamādhē .3.
The All-powerful Architect of Destiny has ordained that you shall be reincarnated over and over again. ||3||
ਜਉ ਭਇਓ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਤਉ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਭ ਸੁਖ ਲਾਧੇ ॥
jau bhaiō kripāl dīn dukh bhanjan tau gur mil sabh sukh lādhē .
When the Destroyer of the pains of the poor becomes merciful, then, as Gurmukh, you shall find absolute peace.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਧਿਆਵਉ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਾਢੀ ਸਗਲ ਉਪਾਧੇ ॥੪॥
kah nānak din rain dhiāvau mār kādhī sagal upādhē .4.
Says Nanak, meditate on the Lord, day and night, and all your sickness shall be banished. ||4||
ਇਉ ਜਪਿਓ ਭਾਈ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ॥
iu japiō bhāī purakh bidhātē .
Meditate in this way, O Siblings of Destiny, on the Lord, the Architect of Destiny.
ਭਇਓ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖ ਲਾਥੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੨੬॥
bhaiō kripāl dīn dukh bhanjan janam maran dukh lāthē .1. rahāu dūjā .4.4.126.
The Destroyer of the pains of the poor has become merciful; He has removed the pains of birth and death. ||1||Second Pause||4||4||126||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਨਿਮਖ ਕਾਮ ਸੁਆਦ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਦਿਨਸ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥
nimakh kām suād kāran kōt dinas dukh pāvah .
For a moment of sexual pleasure, you shall suffer in pain for millions of days.
ਘਰੀ ਮੁਹਤ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਣਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹਿ ॥੧॥
gharī muhat rang mānah phir bahur bahur pashutāvah .1.
For an instant, you may savor pleasure, but afterwards, you shall regret it, again and again. ||1||
ਅੰਧੇ ਚੇਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥
andhē chēt har har rāiā .
O blind man, meditate on the Lord, the Lord, your King.
ਤੇਰਾ ਸੋ ਦਿਨੁ ਨੇੜੈ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tērā sō din nērai āiā .1. rahāu .
Your day is drawing near. ||1||Pause||
ਪਲਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਭੂਲੋ ਆਕ ਨੀਮ ਕੋ ਤੂੰਮਰੁ ॥
palak drisat dēkh bhūlō āk nīm kō tūnmar .
You are deceived, beholding with your eyes, the bitter melon and swallow-wort.
ਜੈਸਾ ਸੰਗੁ ਬਿਸੀਅਰ ਸਿਉ ਹੈ ਰੇ ਤੈਸੋ ਹੀ ਇਹੁ ਪਰ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ॥੨॥
jaisā sang bisīar siu hai rē taisō hī ih par grih .2.
But, like the companionship of a poisonous snake, so is the desire for another's spouse. ||2||
ਬੈਰੀ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਤਾ ਬਸਤੁ ਰਹੀ ਅਮਾਨਾ ॥
bairī kāran pāp karatā basat rahī amānā .
For the sake of your enemy, you commit sins, while you neglect the reality of your faith.
ਛੋਡਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਸਿਉ ਸੰਗੀ ਸਾਜਨ ਸਿਉ ਬੈਰਾਨਾ ॥੩॥
shōd jāh tin hī siu sangī sājan siu bairānā .3.
Your friendship is with those who abandon you, and you are angry with your friends. ||3||
ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਇਹੈ ਬਿਧਿ ਬਿਆਪਿਓ ਸੋ ਉਬਰਿਓ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
sagal sansār ihai bidh biāpiō sō ubariō jis gur pūrā .
The entire world is entangled in this way; he alone is saved, who has the Perfect Guru.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰਿਓ ਭਏ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੨੭॥
kah nānak bhav sāgar tariō bhaē punīt sarīrā .4.5.127.
Says Nanak, I have crossed over the terrifying world-ocean; my body has become sanctified. ||4||5||127||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਦੁਪਦੇ ॥
āsā mahalā 5 dupadē .
Aasaa, Fifth Mehl Dupadas:
ਲੂਕਿ ਕਮਾਨੋ ਸੋਈ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ ਪੇਖਿਓ ਮੂੜ ਮੁਗਧ ਮੁਕਰਾਨੀ ॥
lūk kamānō sōī tumh pēkhiō mūr mugadh mukarānī .
O Lord, You behold whatever we do in secrecy; the fool may stubbornly deny it.
ਆਪ ਕਮਾਨੇ ਕਉ ਲੇ ਬਾਂਧੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਨੀ ॥੧॥
āp kamānē kau lē bānhdhē phir pāshai pashutānī .1.
By his own actions, he is tied down, and in the end, he regrets and repents. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਆਗੈ ਜਾਨੀ ॥
prabh mērē sabh bidh āgai jānī .
My God knows, ahead of time, all things.
ਭ੍ਰਮ ਕੇ ਮੂਸੇ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਖਤ ਪਰਦਾ ਪਾਛੈ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਮਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bhram kē mūsē tūn rākhat paradā pāshai jī kī mānī .1. rahāu .
Deceived by doubt, you may hide your actions, but in the end, you shall have to confess the secrets of your mind. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਾਗੇ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਕਰੈ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥
jit jit lāē tit tit lāgē kiā kō karai parānī .
Whatever they are attached to, they remain joined to that. What can any mere mortal do?
ਬਖਸਿ ਲੈਹੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀ ॥੨॥੬॥੧੨੮॥
bakhas laih pārabraham suāmī nānak sad kurabānī .2.6.128.
Please, forgive me, O Supreme Lord Master. Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You. ||2||6||128||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੀ ਆਪੇ ਰਾਖੈ ਆਪੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਵੈ ॥
apunē sēvak kī āpē rākhai āpē nām japāvai .
He Himself preserves His servants; He causes them to chant His Name.
ਜਹ ਜਹ ਕਾਜ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੀ ਤਹਾ ਤਹਾ ਉਠਿ ਧਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
jah jah kāj kirat sēvak kī tahā tahā uth dhāvai .1.
Wherever the business and affairs of His servants are, there the Lord hurries to be. ||1||
ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਨਿਕਟੀ ਹੋਇ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ॥
sēvak kau nikatī hōi dikhāvai .
The Lord appears near at hand to His servant.
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਕਹੈ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਤਤਕਾਲ ਹੋਇ ਆਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jō jō kahai thākur pah sēvak tatakāl hōi āvai .1. rahāu .
Whatever the servant asks of his Lord and Master, immediately comes to pass. ||1||Pause||
ਤਿਸੁ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਜੋ ਅਪਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
tis sēvak kai hau balihārī jō apanē prabh bhāvai .
I am a sacrifice to that servant, who is pleasing to his God.
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਸੋਇ ਸੁਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਸਣਿ ਆਵੈ ॥੨॥੭॥੧੨੯॥
tis kī sōi sunī man hariā tis nānak parasan āvai .2.7.129.
Hearing of his glory, the mind is rejuvenated; Nanak comes to touch his feet. ||2||7||129||

ਨਟੂਆ ਭੇਖ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਜੈਸਾ ਹੈ ਓਹੁ ਤੈਸਾ ਰੇ ॥
natūā bhēkh dikhāvai bah bidh jaisā hai ōh taisā rē .
The actor displays himself in many disguises, but he remains just as he is.
ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿਓ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਸੁਖਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਰਵੇਸਾ ਰੇ ॥੧॥
anik jōn bhramiō bhram bhītar sukhah nāhī paravēsā rē .1.
The soul wanders through countless incarnations in doubt, but it does not come to dwell in peace. ||1||
