ਮਨਮੁਖ ਜਨਮੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਗਇਆ ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਦੇਸੀ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
manamukh janam birathā gaiā kiā muh dēsī jāi .3.
The life of the self-willed manmukh passes uselessly. What face will he show when he passes beyond? ||3||
ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
sabh kish āpē āp hai haumai vich kahan n jāi .
God Himself is everything; those who are in their ego cannot even speak of this.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਦੁਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
gur kai sabad pashānīai dukh haumai vichah gavāi .
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He is realized, and the pain of egotism is eradicated from within.
ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥
satagur sēvan āpanā hau tin kai lāgau pāi .
I fall at the feet of those who serve their True Guru.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਚਿਆਰ ਹਹਿ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥੪॥੨੧॥੫੪॥
nānak dar sachai sachiār hah hau tin balihārai jāu .4.21.54.
O Nanak, I am a sacrifice to those who are found to be true in the True Court. ||4||21||54||

ਜੇ ਵੇਲਾ ਵਖਤੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੀਐ ਤਾ ਕਿਤੁ ਵੇਲਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
jē vēlā vakhat vīchārīai tā kit vēlā bhagat hōi .
Consider the time and the moment-when should we worship the Lord?
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਤਿਆ ਸਚੇ ਸਚੀ ਸੋਇ ॥
anadin nāmē ratiā sachē sachī sōi .
Night and day, one who is attuned to the Name of the True Lord is true.
ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਿਨੇਹੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
ik til piārā visarai bhagat kinēhī hōi .
If someone forgets the Beloved Lord, even for an instant, what sort of devotion is that?
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਾਚ ਸਿਉ ਸਾਸੁ ਨ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥
man tan sītal sāch siu sās n birathā kōi .1.
One whose mind and body are cooled and soothed by the True Lord-no breath of his is wasted. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
mērē man har kā nām dhiāi .
O my mind, meditate on the Name of the Lord.
ਸਾਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਤਾ ਥੀਐ ਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sāchī bhagat tā thīai jā har vasai man āi .1. rahāu .
True devotional worship is performed when the Lord comes to dwell in the mind. ||1||Pause||
ਸਹਜੇ ਖੇਤੀ ਰਾਹੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੀਜੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
sahajē khētī rāhīai sach nām bīj pāi .
With intuitive ease, cultivate your farm, and plant the Seed of the True Name.
ਖੇਤੀ ਜੰਮੀ ਅਗਲੀ ਮਨੂਆ ਰਜਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
khētī janmī agalī manūā rajā sahaj subhāi .
The seedlings have sprouted luxuriantly, and with intuitive ease, the mind is satisfied.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਪੀਤੈ ਤਿਖ ਜਾਇ ॥
gur kā sabad anmrit hai jit pītai tikh jāi .
The Word of the Guru's Shabad is Ambrosial Nectar; drinking it in, thirst is quenched.
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਚਿ ਰਤਾ ਸਚੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
ih man sāchā sach ratā sachē rahiā samāi .2.
This true mind is attuned to Truth, and it remains permeated with the True One. ||2||
ਆਖਣੁ ਵੇਖਣੁ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਸਬਦੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
ākhan vēkhan bōlanā sabadē rahiā samāi .
In speaking, in seeing and in words, remain immersed in the Shabad.
ਬਾਣੀ ਵਜੀ ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗੀ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਣਾਇ ॥
bānī vajī chah jugī sachō sach sunāi .
The Word of the Guru's Bani vibrates throughout the four ages. As Truth, it teaches Truth.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਰਹਿ ਗਇਆ ਸਚੈ ਲਇਆ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
haumai mērā rah gaiā sachai laiā milāi .
Egotism and possessiveness are eliminated, and the True One absorbs them into Himself.
ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਮਹਲੁ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੩॥
tin kau mahal hadūr hai jō sach rahē liv lāi .3.
Those who remain lovingly absorbed in the True One see the Mansion of His Presence close at hand. ||3||
ਨਦਰੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
nadarī nām dhiāīai vin karamā pāiā n jāi .
By His Grace, we meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. Without His Mercy, it cannot be obtained.
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਲਹੈ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਇ ॥
pūrai bhāg satasangat lahai satagur bhētai jis āi .
Through perfect good destiny, one finds the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, and one comes to meet the True Guru.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਤਿਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
anadin nāmē ratiā dukh bikhiā vichah jāi .
Night and day, remain attuned to the Naam, and the pain of corruption shall be dispelled from within.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੜਾ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੨੨॥੫੫॥
nānak sabad milāvarā nāmē nām samāi .4.22.55.
O Nanak, merging with the Shabad through the Name, one is immersed in the Name. ||4||22||55||

ਆਪਣਾ ਭਉ ਤਿਨ ਪਾਇਓਨੁ ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
āpanā bhau tin pāiōn jin gur kā sabad bīchār .
Those who contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad are filled with the Fear of God.
ਸਤਸੰਗਤੀ ਸਦਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰਿ ॥
satasangatī sadā mil rahē sachē kē gun sār .
They remain forever merged with the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation; they dwell upon the Glories of the True One.
ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮੈਲੁ ਚੁਕਾਈਅਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
dubidhā mail chukāīan har rākhiā ur dhār .
They cast off the filth of their mental duality, and they keep the Lord enshrined in their hearts.
ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਮਨਿ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੧॥
sachī bānī sach man sachē nāl piār .1.
True is their speech, and true are their minds. They are in love with the True One. ||1||
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਭਰ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
man mērē haumai mail bhar nāl .
O my mind, you are filled with the filth of egotism.
ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har niramal sadā sōhanā sabad savāranahār .1. rahāu .
The Immaculate Lord is eternally Beautiful. We are adorned with the Word of the Shabad. ||1||Pause||
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
sachai sabad man mōhiā prabh āpē laē milāi .
God joins to Himself those whose minds are fascinated with the True Word of His Shabad.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਤਿਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
anadin nāmē ratiā jōtī jōt samāi .
Night and day, they are attuned to the Naam, and their light is absorbed into the Light.
ਜੋਤੀ ਹੂ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
jōtī hū prabh jāpadā bin satagur būjh n pāi .
Through His Light, God is revealed. Without the True Guru, understanding is not obtained.
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਆਇ ॥੨॥
jin kau pūrab likhiā satagur bhētiā tin āi .2.
The True Guru comes to meet those who have such pre-ordained destiny. ||2||
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭ ਡੁਮਣੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਇ ॥
vin nāvai sabh dumanī dūjai bhāi khuāi .
Without the Name, all are miserable. In the love of duality, they are ruined.
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਜੀਵਦੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥
tis bin gharī n jīvadī dukhī rain vihāi .
Without Him, I cannot survive even for an instant, and my life-night passes in anguish.
ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣਾ ਅੰਧੁਲਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
bharam bhulānā andhulā phir phir āvai jāi .
Wandering in doubt, the spiritually blind come and go in reincarnation, over and over again.
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੩॥
nadar karē prabh āpanī āpē laē milāi .3.
When God Himself bestows His Glance of Grace, He blends us into Himself. ||3||
