ਸਤਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸਦ ਭੈ ਰਚੈ ਆਪਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੧॥
satagur miliai sad bhai rachai āp vasai man āi .1.
Meeting the True Guru, one is permeated forever with the Fear of God, who Himself comes to dwell within the mind. ||1||
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
bhāī rē guramukh būjhai kōi .
O Siblings of Destiny, one who becomes Gurmukh and understands this is very rare.
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਣੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਖੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bin būjhē karam kamāvanē janam padārath khōi .1. rahāu .
To act without understanding is to lose the treasure of this human life. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਨੀ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਤਿਨੀ ਸਾਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਚਾਖੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ॥
jinī chākhiā tinī sād pāiā bin chākhē bharam bhulāi .
Those who have tasted it, enjoy its flavor; without tasting it, they wander in doubt, lost and deceived.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
anmrit sāchā nām hai kahanā kashū n jāi .
The True Name is the Ambrosial Nectar; no one can describe it.
ਪੀਵਤ ਹੂ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਭਇਆ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
pīvat hū paravān bhaiā pūrai sabad samāi .2.
Drinking it in, one becomes honorable, absorbed in the Perfect Word of the Shabad. ||2||
ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਤ ਪਾਈਐ ਹੋਰੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
āpē dēi t pāīai hōr karanā kishū n jāi .
He Himself gives, and then we receive. Nothing else can be done.
ਦੇਵਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੈ ਹਥਿ ਦਾਤਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਪਾਇ ॥
dēvan vālē kai hath dāt hai gurū duārai pāi .
The Gift is in the Hands of the Great Giver. At the Guru's Door, in the Gurdwara, it is received.
ਜੇਹਾ ਕੀਤੋਨੁ ਤੇਹਾ ਹੋਆ ਜੇਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੩॥
jēhā kītōn tēhā hōā jēhē karam kamāi .3.
Whatever He does, comes to pass. All act according to His Will. ||3||
ਜਤੁ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
jat sat sanjam nām hai vin nāvai niramal n hōi .
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is abstinence, truthfulness, and self-restraint. Without the Name, no one becomes pure.
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
pūrai bhāg nām man vasai sabad milāvā hōi .
Through perfect good fortune, the Naam comes to abide within the mind. Through the Shabad, we merge into Him.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਰੰਗਿ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੧੭॥੫੦॥
nānak sahajē hī rang varatadā har gun pāvai sōi .4.17.50.
O Nanak, one who lives in intuitive peace and poise, imbued with the Lord's Love, obtains the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||17||50||

Siree Raag, Third Mehl:
ਕਾਂਇਆ ਸਾਧੈ ਉਰਧ ਤਪੁ ਕਰੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
kānhiā sādhai uradh tap karai vichah haumai n jāi .
You may torment your body with extremes of self-discipline, practice intensive meditation and hang upside-down, but your ego will not be eliminated from within.
ਅਧਿਆਤਮ ਕਰਮ ਜੇ ਕਰੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਪਾਇ ॥
adhiātam karam jē karē nām n kab hī pāi .
You may perform religious rituals, and still never obtain the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੧॥
gur kai sabad jīvat marai har nām vasai man āi .1.
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, remain dead while yet alive, and the Name of the Lord shall come to dwell within the mind. ||1||
ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਜੁ ਸਤਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾ ॥
sun man mērē bhaj satagur saranā .
Listen, O my mind: hurry to the Protection of the Guru's Sanctuary.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਬਿਖੁ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਗੁਰ ਤਰਣਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur parasādī shutīai bikh bhavajal sabad gur taranā .1. rahāu .
By Guru's Grace you shall be saved. Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, you shall cross over the terrifying world-ocean of poison. ||1||Pause||
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਸਭਾ ਧਾਤੁ ਹੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥
trai gun sabhā dhāt hai dūjā bhāu vikār .
Everything under the influence of the three qualities shall perish; the love of duality is corrupting.
ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਪੜੈ ਬੰਧਨ ਮੋਹ ਬਾਧਾ ਨਹ ਬੂਝੈ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
pandit parai bandhan mōh bādhā nah būjhai bikhiā piār .
The Pandits, the religious scholars, read the scriptures, but they are trapped in the bondage of emotional attachment. In love with evil, they do not understand.
ਸਤਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਤ੍ਰਿਕੁਟੀ ਛੂਟੈ ਚਉਥੈ ਪਦਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥੨॥
satagur miliai trikutī shūtai chauthai pad mukat duār .2.
Meeting the Guru, the bondage of the three qualities is cut away, and in the fourth state, the Door of Liberation is attained. ||2||
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਚੂਕੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥
gur tē mārag pāīai chūkai mōh gubār .
Through the Guru, the Path is found, and the darkness of emotional attachment is dispelled.
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਤਾ ਉਧਰੈ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
sabad marai tā udharai pāē mōkh duār .
If one dies through the Shabad, then salvation is obtained, and one finds the Door of Liberation.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
gur parasādī mil rahai sach nām karatār .3.
By Guru's Grace, one remains blended with the True Name of the Creator. ||3||
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੂਆ ਅਤਿ ਸਬਲ ਹੈ ਛਡੇ ਨ ਕਿਤੈ ਉਪਾਇ ॥
ih manūā at sabal hai shadē n kitai upāi .
This mind is very powerful; we cannot escape it just by trying.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਇਦਾ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਦੇਇ ਸਜਾਇ ॥
dūjai bhāi dukh lāidā bahutī dēi sajāi .
In the love of duality, people suffer in pain, condemned to terrible punishment.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਗੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਗਵਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੮॥੫੧॥
nānak nām lagē sē ubarē haumai sabad gavāi .4.18.51.
O Nanak, those who are attached to the Naam are saved; through the Shabad, their ego is banished. ||4||18||51||

ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਦੇਇ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇ ॥
kirapā karē gur pāīai har nāmō dēi drirāi .
By His Grace, the Guru is found, and the Name of the Lord is implanted within.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
bin gur kinai n pāiō birathā janam gavāi .
Without the Guru, no one has obtained it; they waste away their lives in vain.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਣੇ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
manamukh karam kamāvanē daragah milai sajāi .1.
The self-willed manmukhs create karma, and in the Court of the Lord, they receive their punishment. ||1||
ਮਨ ਰੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਚੁਕਾਇ ॥
man rē dūjā bhāu chukāi .
O mind, give up the love of duality.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
antar tērai har vasai gur sēvā sukh pāi . rahāu .
The Lord dwells within you; serving the Guru, you shall find peace. ||Pause||
ਸਚੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਹੈ ਜਾ ਸਚਿ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
sach bānī sach sabad hai jā sach dharē piār .
When you love the Truth, your words are true; they reflect the True Word of the Shabad.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ॥
har kā nām man vasai haumai krōdh nivār .
The Name of the Lord dwells within the mind; egotism and anger are wiped away.
ਮਨਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਤਾ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥੨॥
man niramal nām dhiāīai tā pāē mōkh duār .2.
Meditating on the Naam with a pure mind, the Door of Liberation is found. ||2||
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਜਗੁ ਬਿਨਸਦਾ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
haumai vich jag binasadā mar janmai āvai jāi .
Engrossed in egotism, the world perishes. It dies and is re-born; it continues coming and going in reincarnation.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਜਾਸਨਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
manamukh sabad n jānanī jāsan pat gavāi .
The self-willed manmukhs do not recognize the Shabad; they forfeit their honor, and depart in disgrace.
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਚੇ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥
gur sēvā nāu pāīai sachē rahai samāi .3.
Serving the Guru, the Name is obtained, and one remains absorbed in the True Lord. ||3||
