ਗੁਰੁ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਸਦਾ ਜਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਹਰੈ ॥
gur darīāu sadā jal niramal miliā duramat mail harai .
The Guru is the River, from which the Pure Water is obtained forever; it washes away the filth and pollution of evil-mindedness.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਪਾਇਐ ਪੂਰਾ ਨਾਵਣੁ ਪਸੂ ਪਰੇਤਹੁ ਦੇਵ ਕਰੈ ॥੨॥
satigur pāiai pūrā nāvan pasū parētah dēv karai .2.
Finding the True Guru, the perfect cleansing bath is obtained, which transforms even beasts and ghosts into gods. ||2||
ਰਤਾ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਤਲ ਹੀਅਲੁ ਸੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਮਲੁ ਕਹੀਐ ॥
ratā sach nām tal hīal sō gur paramal kahīai .
He is said to be the Guru, with the scent of sandalwood, who is imbued with the True Name to the bottom of His Heart.
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਵਾਸੁ ਬਨਾਸਪਤਿ ਸਉਰੈ ਤਾਸੁ ਚਰਣ ਲਿਵ ਰਹੀਐ ॥੩॥
jā kī vās banāsapat saurai tās charan liv rahīai .3.
By His Fragrance, the world of vegetation is perfumed. Lovingly focus yourself on His Feet. ||3||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਉਪਜਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਿਵ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥
guramukh jī prān upajah guramukh siv ghar jāīai .
The life of the soul wells up for the Gurmukh; the Gurmukh goes to the House of God.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਜ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੪॥੬॥
guramukh nānak sach samāīai guramukh nij pad pāīai .4.6.
The Gurmukh, O Nanak, merges in the True One; the Gurmukh attains the exalted state of the self. ||4||6||

Prabhaatee, First Mehl:
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਵੀਚਾਰੈ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
gur parasādī vidiā vīchārai par par pāvai mān .
By Guru's Grace, contemplate spiritual knowledge; read it and study it, and you shall be honored.
ਆਪਾ ਮਧੇ ਆਪੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਪਾਇਆ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥
āpā madhē āp paragāsiā pāiā anmrit nām .1.
Within the self, the self is revealed, when one is blessed with the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||
ਕਰਤਾ ਤੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਜਜਮਾਨੁ ॥
karatā tū mērā jajamān .
O Creator Lord, You alone are my Benefactor.
ਇਕ ਦਖਿਣਾ ਹਉ ਤੈ ਪਹਿ ਮਾਗਉ ਦੇਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ik dakhinā hau tai pah māgau dēh āpanā nām .1. rahāu .
I beg for only one blessing from You: please bless me with Your Name. ||1||Pause||
ਪੰਚ ਤਸਕਰ ਧਾਵਤ ਰਾਖੇ ਚੂਕਾ ਮਨਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
panch tasakar dhāvat rākhē chūkā man abhimān .
The five wandering thieves are captured and held, and the egotistical pride of the mind is subdued.
ਦਿਸਟਿ ਬਿਕਾਰੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਭਾਗੀ ਐਸਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥੨॥
disat bikārī duramat bhāgī aisā braham giān .2.
Visions of corruption, vice and evil-mindedness run away. Such is the spiritual wisdom of God. ||2||
ਜਤੁ ਸਤੁ ਚਾਵਲ ਦਇਆ ਕਣਕ ਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤਿ ਪਾਤੀ ਧਾਨੁ ॥
jat sat chāval daiā kanak kar prāpat pātī dhān .
Please bless me with the rice of truth and self-restraint, the wheat of compassion, and the leaf-plate of meditation.
ਦੂਧੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਘੀਉ ਕਰਿ ਐਸਾ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਦਾਨੁ ॥੩॥
dūdh karam santōkh ghīu kar aisā mānhgau dān .3.
Bless me with the milk of good karma, and the clarified butter, the ghee, of compassion. Such are the gifts I beg of You, Lord. ||3||
ਖਿਮਾ ਧੀਰਜੁ ਕਰਿ ਗਊ ਲਵੇਰੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਬਛਰਾ ਖੀਰੁ ਪੀਐ ॥
khimā dhīraj kar gaū lavērī sahajē basharā khīr pīai .
Let forgiveness and patience be my milk-cows, and let the calf of my mind intuitively drink in this milk.
ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਰਮ ਕਾ ਕਪੜਾ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਵਤੁ ਰਹੈ ॥੪॥੭॥
siphat saram kā kaparā mānhgau har gun nānak ravat rahai .4.7.
I beg for the clothes of modesty and the Lord's Praise; Nanak chants the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||7||

ਆਵਤੁ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਜਾਵਤੁ ਕਿਉ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
āvat kinai n rākhiā jāvat kiu rākhiā jāi .
No one can hold anyone back from coming; how could anyone hold anyone back from going?
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਹੋਆ ਸੋਈ ਪਰੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਾਂ ਉਸ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
jis tē hōā sōī par jānai jānh us hī māh samāi .1.
He alone thoroughly understands this, from whom all beings come; all are merged and immersed in Him. ||1||
ਤੂਹੈ ਹੈ ਵਾਹੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜਾਇ ॥
tūhai hai vāh tērī rajāi .
Waaho! - You are Great, and Wondrous is Your Will.
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਪਰੁ ਹੋਇਬਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jō kish karah sōī par hōibā avar n karanā jāi .1. rahāu .
Whatever You do, surely comes to pass. Nothing else can happen. ||1||Pause||
ਜੈਸੇ ਹਰਹਟ ਕੀ ਮਾਲਾ ਟਿੰਡ ਲਗਤ ਹੈ ਇਕ ਸਖਨੀ ਹੋਰ ਫੇਰ ਭਰੀਅਤ ਹੈ ॥
jaisē harahat kī mālā tind lagat hai ik sakhanī hōr phēr bharīat hai .
The buckets on the chain of the Persian wheel rotate; one empties out to fill another.
ਤੈਸੋ ਹੀ ਇਹੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਜਿਉ ਉਸ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੨॥
taisō hī ih khēl khasam kā jiu us kī vadiāī .2.
This is just like the Play of our Lord and Master; such is His Glorious Greatness. ||2||
ਸੁਰਤੀ ਕੈ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਚਲਿ ਕੈ ਉਲਟੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੀ ॥
suratī kai mārag chal kai ulatī nadar pragāsī .
Following the path of intuitive awareness, one turns away from the world, and one's vision is enlightened.
ਮਨਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ਦੇਖੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਉਨੁ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਕਉਨੁ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥੩॥
man vīchār dēkh braham giānī kaun girahī kaun udāsī .3.
Contemplate this in your mind, and see, O spiritual teacher. Who is the householder, and who is the renunciate? ||3||
ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਆਸਾ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਸਉਪਿ ਕੈ ਏਹੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੁ ॥
jis kī āsā tis hī saup kai ēh rahiā nirabān .
Hope comes from the Lord; surrendering to Him, we remain in the state of nirvaanaa.
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਹੋਆ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੮॥
jis tē hōā sōī kar māniā nānak girahī udāsī sō paravān .4.8.
We come from Him; surrendering to Him, O Nanak, one is approved as a householder, and a renunciate. ||4||8||
ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Prabhaatee, First Mehl:
ਦਿਸਟਿ ਬਿਕਾਰੀ ਬੰਧਨਿ ਬਾਂਧੈ ਹਉ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥
disat bikārī bandhan bānhdhai hau tis kai bal jāī .
I am a sacrifice to that one who binds in bondage his evil and corrupted gaze.
ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਭੂਲਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਅਜਾਈ ॥੧॥
pāp punn kī sār n jānai bhūlā phirai ajāī .1.
One who does not know the difference between vice and virtue wanders around uselessly. ||1||
ਬੋਲਹੁ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥
bōlah sach nām karatār .
Speak the True Name of the Creator Lord.
ਫੁਨਿ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਆਵਣ ਵਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
phun bahur n āvan vār .1. rahāu .
Then, you shall never again have to come into this world. ||1||Pause||
ਊਚਾ ਤੇ ਫੁਨਿ ਨੀਚੁ ਕਰਤੁ ਹੈ ਨੀਚ ਕਰੈ ਸੁਲਤਾਨੁ ॥
ūchā tē phun nīch karat hai nīch karai sulatān .
The Creator transforms the high into the low, and makes the lowly into kings.
ਜਿਨੀ ਜਾਣੁ ਸੁਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਗਿ ਤੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੨॥
jinī jān sujāniā jag tē pūrē paravān .2.
Those who know the All-knowing Lord are approved and certified as perfect in this world. ||2||
ਤਾ ਕਉ ਸਮਝਾਵਣ ਜਾਈਐ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਭੂਲਾ ਹੋਈ ॥
tā kau samajhāvan jāīai jē kō bhūlā hōī .
If anyone is mistaken and fooled, you should go to instruct him.
