ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik ōunkār satigur prasād .
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਸਗਲੀ ਥੀਤਿ ਪਾਸਿ ਡਾਰਿ ਰਾਖੀ ॥ ਅਸਟਮ ਥੀਤਿ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਜਨਮਾ ਸੀ ॥੧॥
sagalī thīt pās dār rākhī . asatam thīt gōvind janamā sī .1.
Setting aside all other days, it is said that the Lord was born on the eighth lunar day. ||1||
ਭਰਮਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਨਰ ਕਰਤ ਕਚਰਾਇਣ ॥
bharam bhūlē nar karat kacharāin .
Deluded and confused by doubt, the mortal practices falsehood.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਤੇ ਰਹਤ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
janam maran tē rahat nārāin .1. rahāu .
The Lord is beyond birth and death. ||1||Pause||
ਕਰਿ ਪੰਜੀਰੁ ਖਵਾਇਓ ਚੋਰ ॥
kar panjīr khavāiō chōr .
You prepare sweet treats and feed them to your stone god.
ਓਹੁ ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਮਰੈ ਰੇ ਸਾਕਤ ਢੋਰ ॥੨॥
ōh janam n marai rē sākat dhōr .2.
God is not born, and He does not die, you foolish, faithless cynic! ||2||
ਸਗਲ ਪਰਾਧ ਦੇਹਿ ਲੋਰੋਨੀ ॥
sagal parādh dēh lōrōnī .
You sing lullabyes to your stone god - this is the source of all your mistakes.
ਸੋ ਮੁਖੁ ਜਲਉ ਜਿਤੁ ਕਹਹਿ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਜੋਨੀ ॥੩॥
sō mukh jalau jit kahah thākur jōnī .3.
Let that mouth be burnt, which says that our Lord and Master is subject to birth. ||3||
ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
janam n marai n āvai n jāi .
He is not born, and He does not die; He does not come and go in reincarnation.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੧॥
nānak kā prabh rahiō samāi .4.1.
The God of Nanak is pervading and permeating everywhere. ||4||1||
ਭੈਰਉ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Bhairao, Fifth Mehl:
ਊਠਤ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਬੈਠਤ ਸੁਖੀਆ ॥
ūthat sukhīā baithat sukhīā .
Standing up, I am at peace; sitting down, I am at peace.
ਭਉ ਨਹੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਜਾਂ ਐਸੇ ਬੁਝੀਆ ॥੧॥
bhau nahī lāgai jānh aisē bujhīā .1.
I feel no fear, because this is what I understand. ||1||
ਰਾਖਾ ਏਕੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
rākhā ēk hamārā suāmī .
The One Lord, my Lord and Master, is my Protector.
ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sagal ghatā kā antarajāmī .1. rahāu .
He is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of Hearts. ||1||Pause||
ਸੋਇ ਅਚਿੰਤਾ ਜਾਗਿ ਅਚਿੰਤਾ ॥
sōi achintā jāg achintā .
I sleep without worry, and I awake without worry.
ਜਹਾ ਕਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਤੂੰ ਵਰਤੰਤਾ ॥੨॥
jahā kahānh prabh tūn varatantā .2.
You, O God, are pervading everywhere. ||2||
ਘਰਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
ghar sukh vasiā bāhar sukh pāiā .
I dwell in peace in my home, and I am at peace outside.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥੩॥੨॥
kah nānak gur mantr drirāiā .3.2.
Says Nanak, the Guru has implanted His Mantra within me. ||3||2||

Bhairao, Fifth Mehl:
ਵਰਤ ਨ ਰਹਉ ਨ ਮਹ ਰਮਦਾਨਾ ॥
varat n rahau n mah ramadānā .
I do not keep fasts, nor do I observe the month of Ramadaan.
ਤਿਸੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਜੋ ਰਖੈ ਨਿਦਾਨਾ ॥੧॥
tis sēvī jō rakhai nidānā .1.
I serve only the One, who will protect me in the end. ||1||
ਏਕੁ ਗੁਸਾਈ ਅਲਹੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
ēk gusāī alah mērā .
The One Lord, the Lord of the World, is my God Allah.
ਹਿੰਦੂ ਤੁਰਕ ਦੁਹਾਂ ਨੇਬੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
hindū turak duhānh nēbērā .1. rahāu .
He adminsters justice to both Hindus and Muslims. ||1||Pause||
ਹਜ ਕਾਬੈ ਜਾਉ ਨ ਤੀਰਥ ਪੂਜਾ ॥
haj kābai jāu n tīrath pūjā .
I do not make pilgrimages to Mecca, nor do I worship at Hindu sacred shrines.
ਏਕੋ ਸੇਵੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੨॥
ēkō sēvī avar n dūjā .2.
I serve the One Lord, and not any other. ||2||
ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਉ ਨ ਨਿਵਾਜ ਗੁਜਾਰਉ ॥
pūjā karau n nivāj gujārau .
I do not perform Hindu worship services, nor do I offer the Muslim prayers.
ਏਕ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਲੇ ਰਿਦੈ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਉ ॥੩॥
ēk nirankār lē ridai namasakārau .3.
I have taken the One Formless Lord into my heart; I humbly worship Him there. ||3||
ਨਾ ਹਮ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਨ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ॥
nā ham hindū n musalamān .
I am not a Hindu, nor am I a Muslim.
ਅਲਹ ਰਾਮ ਕੇ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਪਰਾਨ ॥੪॥
alah rām kē pind parān .4.
My body and breath of life belong to Allah - to Raam - the God of both. ||4||
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਇਹੁ ਕੀਆ ਵਖਾਨਾ ॥
kah kabīr ih kīā vakhānā .
Says Kabeer, this is what I say:
ਗੁਰ ਪੀਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਖੁਦਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥੫॥੩॥
gur pīr mil khud khasam pashānā .5.3.
meeting with the Guru, my Spiritual Teacher, I realize God, my Lord and Master. ||5||3||

Bhairao, Fifth Mehl:
ਦਸ ਮਿਰਗੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਬੰਧਿ ਆਨੀ ॥
das miragī sahajē bandh ānī .
I easily tied up the deer - the ten sensory organs.
ਪਾਂਚ ਮਿਰਗ ਬੇਧੇ ਸਿਵ ਕੀ ਬਾਨੀ ॥੧॥
pānhch mirag bēdhē siv kī bānī .1.
I shot five of the desires with the Word of the Lord's Bani. ||1||
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਲੇ ਚੜਿਓ ਸਿਕਾਰ ॥
santasang lē chariō sikār .
I go out hunting with the Saints,
ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਪਕਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੋਰ ਹਥੀਆਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mrig pakarē bin ghōr hathīār .1. rahāu .
and we capture the deer without horses or weapons. ||1||Pause||
ਆਖੇਰ ਬਿਰਤਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਆਇਓ ਧਾਇ ॥
ākhēr birat bāhar āiō dhāi .
My mind used to run around outside hunting.
ਅਹੇਰਾ ਪਾਇਓ ਘਰ ਕੈ ਗਾਂਇ ॥੨॥
ahērā pāiō ghar kai gānhi .2.
But now, I have found the game within the home of my body-village. ||2||
ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਪਕਰੇ ਘਰਿ ਆਣੇ ਹਾਟਿ ॥
mrig pakarē ghar ānē hāt .
I caught the deer and brought them home.
ਚੁਖ ਚੁਖ ਲੇ ਗਏ ਬਾਂਢੇ ਬਾਟਿ ॥੩॥
chukh chukh lē gaē bānhdhē bāt .3.
Dividing them up, I shared them, bit by bit. ||3||
ਏਹੁ ਅਹੇਰਾ ਕੀਨੋ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
ēh ahērā kīnō dān .
God has given this gift.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੪॥੪॥
nānak kai ghar kēval nām .4.4.
Nanak's home is filled with the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||4||

Bhairao, Fifth Mehl:
ਜੇ ਸਉ ਲੋਚਿ ਲੋਚਿ ਖਾਵਾਇਆ ॥
jē sau lōch lōch khāvāiā .
Even though he may be fed with hundreds of longings and yearnings,
ਸਾਕਤ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥
sākat har har chīt n āiā .1.
still the faithless cynic does not remember the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਲੇਹੁ ਮਤੇ ॥
sant janā kī lēh matē .
Take in the teachings of the humble Saints.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਪਰਮ ਗਤੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sādhasang pāvah param gatē .1. rahāu .
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall obtain the supreme status. ||1||Pause||
ਪਾਥਰ ਕਉ ਬਹੁ ਨੀਰੁ ਪਵਾਇਆ ॥
pāthar kau bah nīr pavāiā .
Stones may be kept under water for a long time.
ਨਹ ਭੀਗੈ ਅਧਿਕ ਸੂਕਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
nah bhīgai adhik sūkāiā .2.
Even so, they do not absorb the water; they remain hard and dry. ||2||
