ਗੁਨ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਉਚਾਰੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਟੇਵ ਏਹ ਪਰੀ ॥੧॥
gun gōpāl uchār rasanā tēv ēh parī .1.
My tongue chants the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the World; this has become part of my very nature. ||1||
ਮਹਾ ਨਾਦ ਕੁਰੰਕ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਬੇਧਿ ਤੀਖਨ ਸਰੀ ॥
mahā nād kurank mōhiō bēdh tīkhan sarī .
The deer is fascinated by the sound of the bell, and so it is shot with the sharp arrow.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਰਸਾਲ ਨਾਨਕ ਗਾਠਿ ਬਾਧਿ ਧਰੀ ॥੨॥੧॥੯॥
prabh charan kamal rasāl nānak gāth bādh dharī .2.1.9.
God's Lotus Feet are the Source of Nectar; O Nanak, I am tied to them by a knot. ||2||1||9||

Kaydaaraa, Fifth Mehl:
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਬਸਤ ਰਿਦ ਮਹਿ ਖੋਰ ॥
prītam basat rid mah khōr .
My Beloved dwells in the cave of my heart.
ਭਰਮ ਭੀਤਿ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਗਹਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਅਪਨੀ ਓਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bharam bhīt nivār thākur gah lēh apanī ōr .1. rahāu .
Shatter the wall of doubt, O my Lord and Master; please grab hold of me, and lift me up towards Yourself. ||1||Pause||
ਅਧਿਕ ਗਰਤ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਾਗਰ ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਚਾਰਹੁ ਧੋਰ ॥
adhik garat sansār sāgar kar daiā chārah dhōr .
The world-ocean is so vast and deep; please be kind, lift me up and place me on the shore.
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਉਧਰਤੇ ਲੈ ਮੋਰ ॥੧॥
santasang har charan bōhith udharatē lai mōr .1.
In the Society of the Saints, the Lord's Feet are the boat to carry us across. ||1||
ਗਰਭ ਕੁੰਟ ਮਹਿ ਜਿਨਹਿ ਧਾਰਿਓ ਨਹੀ ਬਿਖੈ ਬਨ ਮਹਿ ਹੋਰ ॥
garabh kunt mah jinah dhāriō nahī bikhai ban mah hōr .
The One who placed you in the womb of your mother's belly - no one else shall save you in the wilderness of corruption.
ਹਰਿ ਸਕਤ ਸਰਨ ਸਮਰਥ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਨ ਨਹੀ ਨਿਹੋਰ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੦॥
har sakat saran samarath nānak ān nahī nihōr .2.2.10.
The power of the Lord's Sanctuary is all-powerful; Nanak does not rely on any other. ||2||2||10||

Kaydaaraa, Fifth Mehl:
ਰਸਨਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਬਖਾਨੁ ॥
rasanā rām rām bakhān .
With your tongue, chant the Name of the Lord.
ਗੁਨ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ਉਚਾਰੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਭਏ ਕਲਮਲ ਹਾਨ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gun gōpāl uchār din rain bhaē kalamal hān . rahāu .
Chanting the Glorious Praises of the Lord, day and night, your sins shall be eradicated. ||Pause||
ਤਿਆਗਿ ਚਲਨਾ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਪਤ ਕਾਲੁ ਸਿਰ ਪਰਿ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
tiāg chalanā sagal sanpat kāl sir par jān .
You shall have to leave behind all your riches when you depart. Death is hanging over your head - know this well!
ਮਿਥਨ ਮੋਹ ਦੁਰੰਤ ਆਸਾ ਝੂਠੁ ਸਰਪਰ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੧॥
mithan mōh durant āsā jhūth sarapar mān .1.
Transitory attachments and evil hopes are false. Surely you must believe this! ||1||
ਸਤਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਧਾਰਹੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
sat purakh akāl mūrat ridai dhārah dhiān .
Within your heart, focus your meditation on the True Primal Being, Akaal Moorat, the Undying Form.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਲਾਭੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਸਤੁ ਇਹ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥੨॥੩॥੧੧॥
nām nidhān lābh nānak basat ih paravān .2.3.11.
Only this profitable merchandise, the treasure of the Naam, O Nanak, shall be accepted. ||2||3||11||

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੋ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
har kē nām kō ādhār .
I take only the Support of the Name of the Lord.
ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਨ ਕਛੁ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੁ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kal kalēs n kash biāpai santasang biuhār . rahāu .
Suffering and conflict do not afflict me; I deal only with the Society of the Saints. ||Pause||
ਕਰਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਆਪਿ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਨਹ ਉਪਜਤਉ ਬੇਕਾਰੁ ॥
kar anugrah āp rākhiō nah upajatau bēkār .
Showering His Mercy on me, the Lord Himself has saved me, and no evil thoughts arise within me.
ਜਿਸੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਦਹਤ ਨਹ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
jis parāpat hōi simarai tis dahat nah sansār .1.
Whoever receives this Grace, contemplates Him in meditation; he is not burned by the fire of the world. ||1||
ਸੁਖ ਮੰਗਲ ਆਨੰਦ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਚਰਨ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
sukh mangal ānand har har prabh charan anmrit sār .
Peace, joy and bliss come from the Lord, Har, Har. God's Feet are sublime and excellent.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਸਰਨਾਗਤੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤਨਾ ਕੀ ਛਾਰੁ ॥੨॥੪॥੧੨॥
nānak dās saranāgatī tērē santanā kī shār .2.4.12.
Slave Nanak seeks Your Sanctuary; he is the dust of the feet of Your Saints. ||2||4||12||

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਸ੍ਰੋਤ ॥
har kē nām bin dhrig srōt .
Without the Name of the Lord, one's ears are cursed.
ਜੀਵਨ ਰੂਪ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਹਿ ਤਿਹ ਕਤ ਜੀਵਨ ਹੋਤ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jīvan rūp bisār jīvah tih kat jīvan hōt . rahāu .
Those who forget the Embodiment of Life - what is the point of their lives? ||Pause||
ਖਾਤ ਪੀਤ ਅਨੇਕ ਬਿੰਜਨ ਜੈਸੇ ਭਾਰ ਬਾਹਕ ਖੋਤ ॥
khāt pīt anēk binjan jaisē bhār bāhak khōt .
One who eats and drinks countless delicacies is no more than a donkey, a beast of burden.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਮਹਾ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੈਸੇ ਬਿਰਖ ਜੰਤੀ ਜੋਤ ॥੧॥
āth pahar mahā sram pāiā jaisē birakh jantī jōt .1.
Twenty-four hours a day, he endures terrible suffering, like the bull, chained to the oil-press. ||1||
ਤਜਿ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ਜਿ ਆਨ ਲਾਗੇ ਸੇ ਬਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰੀ ਰੋਤ ॥
taj gōpāl j ān lāgē sē bah prakārī rōt .
Forsaking the Life of the World, and attached to another, they weep and wail in so many ways.
ਕਰ ਜੋਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਨੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਖਉ ਕੰਠਿ ਪਰੋਤ ॥੨॥੫॥੧੩॥
kar jōr nānak dān māgai har rakhau kanth parōt .2.5.13.
With his palms pressed together, Nanak begs for this gift; O Lord, please keep me strung around Your Neck. ||2||5||13||

Kaydaaraa, Fifth Mehl:
ਸੰਤਹ ਧੂਰਿ ਲੇ ਮੁਖਿ ਮਲੀ ॥
santah dhūr lē mukh malī .
I take the dust of the feet of the Saints and apply it to my face.
ਗੁਣਾ ਅਚੁਤ ਸਦਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਨਹ ਦੋਖ ਬਿਆਪਹਿ ਕਲੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gunā achut sadā pūran nah dōkh biāpah kalī . rahāu .
Hearing of the Imperishable, Eternally Perfect Lord, pain does not afflict me, even in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga. ||Pause||
ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨਿ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਰਬ ਪੂਰਨ ਈਤ ਊਤ ਨ ਹਲੀ ॥
gur bachan kāraj sarab pūran īt ūt n halī .
Through the Guru's Word, all affairs are resolved, and the mind is not tossed about here and there.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਏਕ ਅਨਿਕ ਸਰਬਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਬਿਖੈ ਅਗਨਿ ਨ ਜਲੀ ॥੧॥
prabh ēk anik sarabat pūran bikhai agan n jalī .1.
Whoever sees the One God to be pervading in all the many beings, does not burn in the fire of corruption. ||1||
ਗਹਿ ਭੁਜਾ ਲੀਨੋ ਦਾਸੁ ਅਪਨੋ ਜੋਤਿ ਜੋਤੀ ਰਲੀ ॥
gah bhujā līnō dās apanō jōt jōtī ralī .
The Lord grasps His slave by the arm, and his light merges into the Light.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਚਰਨ ਸਰਨ ਅਨਾਥੁ ਆਇਓ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਚਲੀ ॥੨॥੬॥੧੪॥
prabh charan saran anāth āiō nānak har sang chalī .2.6.14.
Nanak, the orphan, has come seeking the Sanctuary of God's Feet; O Lord, he walks with You. ||2||6||14||
