ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਏ ॥
guramukh hōvai s sōjhī pāē .
One who becomes Gurmukh understands.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
haumai māiā bharam gavāē .
He rids himself of egotism, Maya and doubt.
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪਉੜੀ ਊਤਮ ਊਚੀ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥
gur kī paurī ūtam ūchī dar sachai har gun gāidā .7.
He ascends the sublime, exalted ladder of the Guru, and he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord at His True Door. ||7||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
guramukh sach sanjam karanī sār .
The Gurmukh practices true self-control, and acts in excellence.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
guramukh pāē mōkh duār .
The Gurmukh obtains the gate of salvation.
ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥
bhāi bhagat sadā rang rātā āp gavāi samāidā .8.
Through loving devotion, he remains forever imbued with the Lord's Love; eradicating self-conceit, he merges in the Lord. ||8||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਮਨੁ ਖੋਜਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
guramukh hōvai man khōj sunāē .
One who becomes Gurmukh examines his own mind, and instructs others.
ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
sachai nām sadā liv lāē .
He is lovingly attuned to the True Name forever.
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਸੀ ਜੋ ਸਚੇ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥
jō tis bhāvai sōī karasī jō sachē man bhāidā .9.
They act in harmony with the Mind of the True Lord. ||9||
ਜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
jā tis bhāvai satigurū milāē .
As it pleases His Will, He unites us with the True Guru.
ਜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
jā tis bhāvai tā mann vasāē .
As it pleases His Will, He comes to dwell within the mind.
ਆਪਣੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਭਾਣੈ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥
āpanai bhānai sadā rang rātā bhānai mann vasāidā .10.
As it pleases His Will, He imbues us with His Love; as it pleases His Will, He comes to dwell in the mind. ||10||
ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਛੀਜੈ ॥
manahath karam karē sō shījai .
Those who act stubborn-mindedly are destroyed.
ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰੇ ਨਹੀ ਭੀਜੈ ॥
bahutē bhēkh karē nahī bhījai .
Wearing all sorts of religious robes, they do not please the Lord.
ਬਿਖਿਆ ਰਾਤੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਖੇ ਦੁਖਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥
bikhiā rātē dukh kamāvah dukhē dukh samāidā .11.
Tinged by corruption, they earn only pain; they are immersed in pain. ||11||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
guramukh hōvai s sukh kamāē .
One who becomes Gurmukh earns peace.
ਮਰਣ ਜੀਵਣ ਕੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਏ ॥
maran jīvan kī sōjhī pāē .
He comes to understand death and birth.
ਮਰਣੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਜੋ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥
maran jīvan jō sam kar jānai sō mērē prabh bhāidā .12.
One who looks alike upon death and birth, is pleasing to my God. ||12||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਸੁ ਹਹਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
guramukh marah s hah paravān .
The Gurmukh, while remaining dead, is respected and approved.
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥
āvan jānā sabad pashān .
He realizes that coming and going are according to God's Will.
ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜੰਮੈ ਨਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥
marai n janmai nā dukh pāē man hī manah samāidā .13.
He does not die, he is not reborn, and he does not suffer in pain; his mind merges in the Mind of God. ||13||
ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
sē vadabhāgī jinī satigur pāiā .
Very fortunate are those who find the True Guru.
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
haumai vichah mōh chukāiā .
They eradicate egotism and attachment from within.
ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥
man niramal phir mail n lāgai dar sachai sōbhā pāidā .14.
Their minds are immaculate, and they are never again stained with filth. They are honored at the Door of the True Court. ||14||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ॥
āpē karē karāē āpē .
He Himself acts, and inspires all to act.
ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ॥
āpē vēkhai thāp uthāpē .
He Himself watches over all; He establishes and disestablishes.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਲੇਖੈ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥
guramukh sēvā mērē prabh bhāvai sach sun lēkhai pāidā .15.
The service of the Gurmukh is pleasing to my God; one who listens to the Truth is approved. ||15||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
guramukh sachō sach kamāvai .
The Gurmukh practices Truth, and only Truth.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਵੈ ॥
guramukh niramal mail n lāvai .
The Gurmukh is immaculate; no filth attaches to him.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੧॥੧੫॥
nānak nām ratē vīchārī nāmē nām samāidā .16.1.15.
O Nanak, those who contemplate the Naam are imbued with it. They merge in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||16||1||15||
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Maaroo, Third Mehl:
ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਭ ਸਾਜੀ ॥
āpē srisat hukam sabh sājī .
He Himself fashioned the Universe, through the Hukam of His Command.
ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਿ ਨਿਵਾਜੀ ॥
āpē thāp uthāp nivājī .
He Himself establishes and disestablishes, and embellishes with grace.
ਆਪੇ ਨਿਆਉ ਕਰੇ ਸਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥
āpē niāu karē sabh sāchā sāchē sāch milāidā .1.
The True Lord Himself administers all justice; through Truth, we merge in the True Lord. ||1||
ਕਾਇਆ ਕੋਟੁ ਹੈ ਆਕਾਰਾ ॥
kāiā kōt hai ākārā .
The body takes the form of a fortress.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥
māiā mōh pasariā pāsārā .
Emotional attachment to Maya has expanded throughout its expanse.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਭਸਮੈ ਕੀ ਢੇਰੀ ਖੇਹੂ ਖੇਹ ਰਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥
bin sabadai bhasamai kī dhērī khēhū khēh ralāidā .2.
Without the Word of the Shabad, the body is reduced to a pile of ashes; in the end, dust mingles with dust. ||2||
ਕਾਇਆ ਕੰਚਨ ਕੋਟੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
kāiā kanchan kōt apārā .
The body is the infinite fortress of gold;
ਜਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
jis vich raviā sabad apārā .
it is permeated by the Infinite Word of the Shabad.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਚੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥
guramukh gāvai sadā gun sāchē mil prītam sukh pāidā .3.
The Gurmukh sings the Glorious Praises of the True Lord forever; meeting his Beloved, he finds peace. ||3||
ਕਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
kāiā har mandar har āp savārē .
The body is the temple of the Lord; the Lord Himself embellishes it.
ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਵਸੈ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥
tis vich har jīu vasai murārē .
The Dear Lord dwells within it.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਣਜਨਿ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥
gur kai sabad vanajan vāpārī nadarī āp milāidā .4.
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the merchants trade, and in His Grace, the Lord merges them with Himself. ||4||
ਸੋ ਸੂਚਾ ਜਿ ਕਰੋਧੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
sō sūchā j karōdh nivārē .
He alone is pure, who eradicates anger.
ਸਬਦੇ ਬੂਝੈ ਆਪੁ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
sabadē būjhai āp savārē .
He realizes the Shabad, and reforms himself.
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥
āpē karē karāē karatā āpē mann vasāidā .5.
The Creator Himself acts, and inspires all to act; He Himself abides in the mind. ||5||
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਾਲੀ ॥
niramal bhagat hai nirālī .
Pure and unique is devotional worship.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਧੋਵਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
man tan dhōvah sabad vīchārī .
The mind and body are washed clean, contemplating the Shabad.
