ਇਕਿ ਕੂੜਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਕੂੜੇ ਫਲ ਪਾਏ ॥
ik kūr lāgē kūrē phal pāē .
Some are stuck in falsehood, and false are the rewards they receive.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
dūjai bhāi birathā janam gavāē .
In love with duality, they waste away their lives in vain.
ਆਪਿ ਡੁਬੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਡੋਬੇ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
āp dubē sagalē kul dōbē kūr bōl bikh khāvaniā .6.
They drown themselves, and drown their entire family; speaking lies, they eat poison. ||6||
ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਕੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇਖੈ ॥
is tan mah man kō guramukh dēkhai .
How rare are those who, as Gurmukh, look within their bodies, into their minds.
ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਜਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਸੋਖੈ ॥
bhāi bhagat jā haumai sōkhai .
Through loving devotion, their ego evaporates.
ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਮੋਨਿਧਾਰੀ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ਤਿਨ ਭੀ ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਨ ਦਿਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
sidh sādhik mōnidhārī rahē liv lāi tin bhī tan mah man n dikhāvaniā .7.
The Siddhas, the seekers and the silent sages continually, lovingly focus their consciousness, but they have not seen the mind within the body. ||7||
ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੋਈ ॥
āp karāē karatā sōī .
The Creator Himself inspires us to work;
ਹੋਰੁ ਕਿ ਕਰੇ ਕੀਤੈ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਈ ॥
hōr k karē kītai kiā hōī .
what can anyone else do? What can be done by our doing?
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਸੋ ਲੇਵੈ ਨਾਮੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨੩॥੨੪॥
nānak jis nām dēvai sō lēvai nāmō mann vasāvaniā .8.23.24.
O Nanak, the Lord bestows His Name; we receive it, and enshrine it within the mind. ||8||23||24||

Maajh, Third Mehl:
ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
ātam rām paragās gur tē hōvai .
The Divine Light of the Supreme Soul shines forth from the Guru.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਲਾਗੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਖੋਵੈ ॥
haumai mail lāgī gur sabadī khōvai .
The filth stuck to the ego is removed through the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
man niramal anadin bhagatī rātā bhagat karē har pāvaniā .1.
One who is imbued with devotional worship to the Lord night and day becomes pure. Worshipping the Lord, He is obtained. ||1||
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਆਪਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਨਿ ਅਵਰਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
hau vārī jīu vārī āp bhagat karan avarā bhagat karāvaniā .
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who themselves worship the Lord, and inspire others to worship Him as well.
ਤਿਨਾ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਸਦ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੁ ਕੀਜੈ ਜੋ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tinā bhagat janā kau sad namasakār kījai jō anadin har gun gāvaniā .1. rahāu .
I humbly bow to those devotees who chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord, night and day. ||1||Pause||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
āpē karatā kāran karāē .
The Creator Lord Himself is the Doer of deeds.
ਜਿਤੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਾਏ ॥
jit bhāvai tit kārai lāē .
As He pleases, He applies us to our tasks.
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
pūrai bhāg gur sēvā hōvai gur sēvā tē sukh pāvaniā .2.
Through perfect destiny, we serve the Guru; serving the Guru, peace is found. ||2||
ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਤਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
mar mar jīvai tā kish pāē .
Those who die, and remain dead while yet alive, obtain it.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
gur parasādī har mann vasāē .
By Guru's Grace, they enshrine the Lord within their minds.
ਸਦਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
sadā mukat har mann vasāē sahajē sahaj samāvaniā .3.
Enshrining the Lord within their minds, they are liberated forever. With intuitive ease, they merge into the Lord. ||3||
ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
bah karam kamāvai mukat n pāē .
They perform all sorts of rituals, but they do not obtain liberation through them.
ਦੇਸੰਤਰੁ ਭਵੈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਏ ॥
dēsantar bhavai dūjai bhāi khuāē .
They wander around the countryside, and in love with duality, they are ruined.
ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਕਪਟੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
birathā janam gavāiā kapatī bin sabadai dukh pāvaniā .4.
The deceitful lose their lives in vain; without the Word of the Shabad, they obtain only misery. ||4||
ਧਾਵਤੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ॥
dhāvat rākhai thāk rahāē .
Those who restrain their wandering mind, keeping it steady and stable,
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
gur parasādī param pad pāē .
obtain the supreme status, by Guru's Grace.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
satigur āpē mēl milāē mil prītam sukh pāvaniā .5.
The True Guru Himself unites us in Union with the Lord. Meeting the Beloved, peace is obtained. ||5||
