ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Maajh, Third Mehl:
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਵਰਸੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥
anmrit varasai sahaj subhāē .
The Ambrosial Nectar rains down, softly and gently.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
guramukh viralā kōī jan pāē .
How rare are those Gurmukhs who find it.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀ ਸਦਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਬੁਝਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
anmrit pī sadā tripatāsē kar kirapā trisanā bujhāvaniā .1.
Those who drink it in are satisfied forever. Showering His Mercy upon them, the Lord quenches their thirst. ||1||
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆਵਣਿਆ ॥
hau vārī jīu vārī guramukh anmrit pīāvaniā .
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those Gurmukhs who drink in this Ambrosial Nectar.
ਰਸਨਾ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
rasanā ras chākh sadā rahai rang rātī sahajē har gun gāvaniā .1. rahāu .
The tongue tastes the essence, and remains forever imbued with the Lord's Love, intuitively singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਹਜੁ ਕੋ ਪਾਏ ॥
gur parasādī sahaj kō pāē .
By Guru's Grace, intuitive understanding is obtained;
ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਾਰੇ ਇਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
dubidhā mārē ikas siu liv lāē .
subduing the sense of duality, they are in love with the One.
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਨਦਰੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
nadar karē tā har gun gāvai nadarī sach samāvaniā .2.
When He bestows His Glance of Grace, then they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord; by His Grace, they merge in Truth. ||2||
ਸਭਨਾ ਉਪਰਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ॥
sabhanā upar nadar prabh tērī .
Above all is Your Glance of Grace, O God.
ਕਿਸੈ ਥੋੜੀ ਕਿਸੈ ਹੈ ਘਣੇਰੀ ॥
kisai thōrī kisai hai ghanērī .
Upon some it is bestowed less, and upon others it is bestowed more.
ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
tujh tē bāhar kish n hōvai guramukh sōjhī pāvaniā .3.
Without You, nothing happens at all; the Gurmukhs understand this. ||3||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਤੁ ਹੈ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
guramukh tat hai bīchārā .
The Gurmukhs contemplate the essence of reality;
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਭਰੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
anmrit bharē tērē bhandārā .
Your Treasures are overflowing with Ambrosial Nectar.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਕੋਈ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
bin satigur sēvē kōī n pāvai gur kirapā tē pāvaniā .4.
Without serving the True Guru, no one obtains it. It is obtained only by Guru's Grace. ||4||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੈ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਹੈ ॥
satigur sēvai sō jan sōhai .
Those who serve the True Guru are beautiful.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮਿ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹੈ ॥
anmrit nām antar man mōhai .
The Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord, entices their inner minds.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਰਤਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
anmrit man tan bānī ratā anmrit sahaj sunāvaniā .5.
Their minds and bodies are attuned to the Ambrosial Bani of the Word; this Ambrosial Nectar is intuitively heard. ||5||
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਭੂਲਾ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਏ ॥
manamukh bhūlā dūjai bhāi khuāē .
The deluded, self-willed manmukhs are ruined through the love of duality.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਲੇਵੈ ਮਰੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਏ ॥
nām n lēvai marai bikh khāē .
They do not chant the Naam, and they die, eating poison.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਮਹਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
anadin sadā visatā mah vāsā bin sēvā janam gavāvaniā .6.
Night and day, they continually sit in manure. Without selfless service, their lives are wasted away. ||6||
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਪੀਆਏ ॥
anmrit pīvai jis nō āp pīāē .
They alone drink in this Amrit, whom the Lord Himself inspires to do so.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
gur parasādī sahaj liv lāē .
By Guru's Grace, they intuitively enshrine love for the Lord.
ਪੂਰਨ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
pūran pūr rahiā sabh āpē guramat nadarī āvaniā .7.
The Perfect Lord is Himself perfectly pervading everywhere; through the Guru's Teachings, He is perceived. ||7||
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
āpē āp niranjan sōī .
He Himself is the Immaculate Lord.
ਜਿਨਿ ਸਿਰਜੀ ਤਿਨਿ ਆਪੇ ਗੋਈ ॥
jin sirajī tin āpē gōī .
He who has created, shall Himself destroy.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਸਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧੬॥੧੭॥
nānak nām samāl sadā tūn sahajē sach samāvaniā .8.16.17.
O Nanak, remember the Naam forever, and you shall merge into the True One with intuitive ease. ||8||16||17||
