ਸਦ ਹੀ ਨੇੜੈ ਦੂਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਹੁ ॥
sad hī nērai dūr n jānah .
He is always near at hand; He is never far away.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਜੀਕਿ ਪਛਾਣਹੁ ॥
gur kai sabad najīk pashānah .
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, realize that He is very near.
ਬਿਗਸੈ ਕਮਲੁ ਕਿਰਣਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੈ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਾਇਆ ॥੧੫॥
bigasai kamal kiran paragāsai paragat kar dēkhāiā .15.
Your heart-lotus shall blossom forth, and the ray of God's Divine Light shall illuminate your heart; He shall be revealed to You. ||15||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਈ ॥
āpē karatā sachā sōī .
The True Lord is Himself the Creator.
ਆਪੇ ਮਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਲੇ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
āpē mār jīvālē avar n kōī .
He Himself kills, and gives life; there is no other at all.
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
mārū mahalā 3 .
Maaroo, Third Mehl:
ਨਦਰੀ ਭਗਤਾ ਲੈਹੁ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
nadarī bhagatā laih milāē .
By Your Grace, please unite with Your devotees.
ਭਗਤ ਸਲਾਹਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
bhagat salāhan sadā liv lāē .
Your devotees ever praise You, lovingly focusing on You.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੬॥੨॥੨੪॥
nānak nām milai vadiāī āp gavāi sukh pāiā .16.2.24.
O Nanak, through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, glorious greatness is obtained. Eradicating self-conceit, peace is found. ||16||2||24||
ਤਉ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਉਬਰਹਿ ਕਰਤੇ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
tau saranāī ubarah karatē āpē mēl milāiā .1.
In Your Sanctuary, they are saved, O Creator Lord; You unite them in Union with Yourself. ||1||
ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਈ ॥
pūrai sabad bhagat suhāī .
Sublime and exalted is devotion to the Perfect Word of the Shabad.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈ ॥
antar sukh tērai man bhāī .
Peace prevails within; they are pleasing to Your Mind.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
man tan sachī bhagatī rātā sachē siu chit lāiā .2.
One whose mind and body are imbued with true devotion, focuses his consciousness on the True Lord. ||2||
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਦ ਜਲੈ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥
haumai vich sad jalai sarīrā .
In egotism, the body is forever burning.
ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਭੇਟੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
karam hōvai bhētē gur pūrā .
When God grants His Grace, one meets the Perfect Guru.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
antar agiān sabad bujhāē satigur tē sukh pāiā .3.
The Shabad dispels the spiritual ignorance within, and through the True Guru, one finds peace. ||3||
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
manamukh andhā andh kamāē .
The blind, self-willed manmukh acts blindly.
ਬਹੁ ਸੰਕਟ ਜੋਨੀ ਭਰਮਾਏ ॥
bah sankat jōnī bharamāē .
He is in terrible trouble, and wanders in reincarnation.
ਜਮ ਕਾ ਜੇਵੜਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਕਾਟੈ ਅੰਤੇ ਬਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
jam kā jēvarā kadē n kātai antē bah dukh pāiā .4.
He can never snap the noose of Death, and in the end, he suffers in horrible pain. ||4||
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
āvan jānā sabad nivārē .
Through the Shabad, one's comings and goings in reincarnation are ended.
ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
sach nām rakhai ur dhārē .
He keeps the True Name enshrined within his heart.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੫॥
gur kai sabad marai man mārē haumai jāi samāiā .5.
He dies in the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and conquers his mind; stilling his egotism, he merges in the Lord. ||5||
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੈ ਪਰਜ ਵਿਗੋਈ ॥
āvan jānai paraj vigōī .
Coming and going, the people of the world are wasting away.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਥਿਰੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
bin satigur thir kōi n hōī .
Without the True Guru, no one finds permanence and stability.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
antar jōt sabad sukh vasiā jōtī jōt milāiā .6.
The Shabad shines its Light deep within the self, and one dwells in peace; one's light merges into the Light. ||6||
ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਚਿਤਵਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
panch dūt chitavah vikārā .
The five demons think of evil and corruption.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਕਾ ਏਹੁ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥
māiā mōh kā ēh pasārā .
The expanse is the manifestation of emotional attachment to Maya.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਵਸਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੭॥
satigur sēvē tā mukat hōvai panch dūt vas āiā .7.
Serving the True Guru, one is liberated, and the five demons are put under his control. ||7||
ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ॥
bājh gurū hai mōh gubārā .
Without the Guru, there is only the darkness of attachment.
ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਡੁਬੈ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰਾ ॥
phir phir dubai vārō vārā .
Over and over, time and time again, they are drowned.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਸਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੮॥
satigur bhētē sach drirāē sach nām man bhāiā .8.
Meeting the True Guru, Truth is implanted within, and the True Name becomes pleasing to the mind. ||8||
ਸਾਚਾ ਦਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਦਰਵਾਰਾ ॥
sāchā dar sāchā daravārā .
True is His Door, and True is His Court, His Royal Darbaar.
ਸਚੇ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥
sachē sēvah sabad piārā .
The true ones serve Him, through the Beloved Word of the Shabad.
ਸਚੀ ਧੁਨਿ ਸਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਸਚੇ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੯॥
sachī dhun sachē gun gāvā sachē māh samāiā .9.
Singing the Glorious Praises of the True Lord, in the true melody, I am immersed and absorbed in Truth. ||9||
ਘਰੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕੋ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
gharai andar kō ghar pāē .
Deep within the home of the self, one finds the home of the Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥
gur kai sabadē sahaj subhāē .
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, one easily, intuitively finds it.
ਓਥੈ ਸੋਗੁ ਵਿਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੦॥
ōthai sōg vijōg n viāpai sahajē sahaj samāiā .10.
There, one is not afflicted with sorrow or separation; merge into the Celestial Lord with intuitive ease. ||10||
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਦੁਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਵਾਸਾ ॥
dūjai bhāi dusatā kā vāsā .
The evil people live in the love of duality.
ਭਉਦੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਸਾ ॥
bhaudē phirah bah mōh piāsā .
They wander around, totally attached and thirsty.
ਕੁਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਹਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਖੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੧॥
kusangat bahah sadā dukh pāvah dukhō dukh kamāiā .11.
They sit in evil gatherings, and suffer in pain forever; they earn pain, nothing but pain. ||11||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
satigur bājhah sangat n hōī .
Without the True Guru, there is no Sangat, no Congregation.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਪਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਕੋਈ ॥
bin sabadē pār n pāē kōī .
Without the Shabad, no one can cross over to the other side.
ਸਹਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਰਵਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧੨॥
sahajē gun ravah din rātī jōtī jōt milāiā .12.
One who intuitively chants God's Glorious Praises day and night - his light merges into the Light. ||12||
ਕਾਇਆ ਬਿਰਖੁ ਪੰਖੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਾਸਾ ॥
kāiā birakh pankhī vich vāsā .
The body is the tree; the bird of the soul dwells within it.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਚੁਗਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਸਾ ॥
anmrit chugah gur sabad nivāsā .
It drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar, resting in the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਉਡਹਿ ਨ ਮੂਲੇ ਨ ਆਵਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੩॥
udah n mūlē n āvah n jāhī nij ghar vāsā pāiā .13.
It never flies away, and it does not come or go; it dwells within the home of its own self. ||13||
ਕਾਇਆ ਸੋਧਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਹਿ ॥
kāiā sōdhah sabad vīchārah .
Purify the body, and contemplate the Shabad.
ਮੋਹ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਭਰਮੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਹਿ ॥
mōh thagaurī bharam nivārah .
Remove the poisonous drug of emotional attachment, and eradicate doubt.
ਆਪੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧੪॥
āpē kripā karē sukhadātā āpē mēl milāiā .14.
The Giver of peace Himself bestows His Mercy, and unites us in Union with Himself. ||14||
