ਤਿਸ ਦੀ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
tis dī būjhai j gur sabad kamāē .
He alone puts out this fire, who practices and lives the Guru's Shabad.
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੫॥
tan man sītal krōdh nivārē haumai mār samāiā .15.
His body and mind are cooled and soothed, and his anger is silenced; conquering egotism, he merges in the Lord. ||15||
ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
sachā sāhib sachī vadiāī .
True is the Lord and Master, and True is His glorious greatness.
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
mārū mahalā 3 .
Maaroo, Third Mehl:
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੇ ॥
agam agōchar vēparavāhē .
He is inaccessible, unfathomable and self-sustaining.
ਆਪੇ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਅਗਮ ਅਥਾਹੇ ॥
āpē miharavān agam athāhē .
He Himself is merciful, inaccessible and unlimited.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਪਾਈ ॥
gur parasādī viralai pāī .
By Guru's Grace, a rare few attain this.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਏਕ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੬॥੧॥੨੩॥
nānak ēk kahai bēnantī nāmē nām samāiā .16.1.23.
Nanak offers this one prayer: through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, may I merge in the Lord. ||16||1||23||
ਅਪੜਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮੇਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
apar kōi n sakai tis nō gur sabadī mēlāiā .1.
No one can reach up to Him; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He is met. ||1||
ਤੁਧੁਨੋ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ ॥
tudhunō sēvah jō tudh bhāvah .
He alone serves You, who pleases You.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ॥
gur kai sabadē sach samāvah .
Through the Guru's Shabad, he merges in the True Lord.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਰਵਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
anadin gun ravah din rātī rasanā har ras bhāiā .2.
Night and day, he chants the Lord's Praises, day and night; his tongue savors and delights in the sublime essence of the Lord. ||2||
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਸੇ ਮਰਣੁ ਸਵਾਰਹਿ ॥
sabad marah sē maran savārah .
Those who die in the Shabad - their death is exalted and glorified.
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਹਿ ॥
har kē gun hiradai ur dhārah .
They enshrine the Lord's Glories in their hearts.
ਜਨਮੁ ਸਫਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
janam saphal har charanī lāgē dūjā bhāu chukāiā .3.
Holding tight to the Guru's feet, their lives becomes prosperous, and they are rid of the love of duality. ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮੇਲੇ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
har jīu mēlē āp milāē .
The Dear Lord unites them in Union with Himself.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
gur kai sabadē āp gavāē .
Through the Guru's Shabad, self-conceit is dispelled.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤੇ ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
anadin sadā har bhagatī rātē is jag mah lāhā pāiā .4.
Those who remain attuned to devotional worship to the Lord, night and day, earn the profit in this world. ||4||
ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਾ ਮੈ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
tērē gun kahā mai kahan n jāī .
What Glorious Virtues of Yours should I describe? I cannot describe them.
ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
ant n pārā kīmat nahī pāī .
You have no end or limitation. Your value cannot be estimated.
ਆਪੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੫॥
āpē daiā karē sukhadātā gun mah gunī samāiā .5.
When the Giver of peace Himself bestows His Mercy, the virtuous are absorbed in virtue. ||5||
ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਮੋਹੁ ਹੈ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥
is jag mah mōh hai pāsārā .
In this world, emotional attachment is spread all over.
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ ॥
manamukh agiānī andh andhārā .
The ignorant, self-willed manmukh is immersed in utter darkness.
ਧੰਧੈ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
dhandhai dhāvat janam gavāiā bin nāvai dukh pāiā .6.
Chasing after worldly affairs, he wastes away his life in vain; without the Name, he suffers in pain. ||6||
ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
karam hōvai tā satigur pāē .
If God grants His Grace, then one finds the True Guru.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥
haumai mail sabad jalāē .
Through the Shabad, the filth of egotism is burned away.
ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੭॥
man niramal giān ratan chānan agiān andhēr gavāiā .7.
The mind becomes immaculate, and the jewel of spiritual wisdom brings enlightenment; the darkness of spiritual ignorance is dispelled. ||7||
ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਅਨੇਕ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
tērē nām anēk kīmat nahī pāī .
Your Names are countless; Your value cannot be estimated.
ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
sach nām har hiradai vasāī .
I enshrine the Lord's True Name within my heart.
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਉਣੁ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੮॥
kīmat kaun karē prabh tērī tū āpē sahaj samāiā .8.
Who can estimate Your value, God? You are immersed and absorbed in Yourself. ||8||
ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
nām amōlak agam apārā .
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is priceless, inaccessible and infinite.
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਹੋਆ ਤੋਲਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
nā kō hōā tōlanahārā .
No one can weigh it.
ਆਪੇ ਤੋਲੇ ਤੋਲਿ ਤੋਲਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮੇਲਿ ਤੋਲਾਇਆ ॥੯॥
āpē tōlē tōl tōlāē gur sabadī mēl tōlāiā .9.
You Yourself weigh, and estimate all; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, You unite, when the weight is perfect. ||9||
ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
sēvak sēvah karah aradās .
Your servant serves, and offers this prayer.
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਬਹਾਲਹਿ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
tū āpē mēl bahālah pās .
Please, let me sit near You, and unite me with Yourself.
ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੧੦॥
sabhanā jīā kā sukhadātā pūrai karam dhiāiā .10.
You are the Giver of peace to all beings; by perfect karma, we meditate on You. ||10||
ਜਤੁ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਜਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
jat sat sanjam j sach kamāvai .
Chastity, truth and self-control come by practicing and living the Truth.
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਜਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
ih man niramal j har gun gāvai .
This mind becomes immaculate and pure, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਇਸੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੧੧॥
is bikh mah anmrit parāpat hōvai har jīu mērē bhāiā .11.
In this world of poison, the Ambrosial Nectar is obtained, if it pleases my Dear Lord. ||11||
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
jis nō bujhāē sōī būjhai .
He alone understands, whom God inspires to understand.
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਅੰਦਰੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
har gun gāvai andar sūjhai .
Singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, one's inner being is awakened.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੨॥
haumai mērā thāk rahāē sahajē hī sach pāiā .12.
Egotism and possessiveness are silenced and subdued, and one intuitively finds the True Lord. ||12||
ਬਿਨੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਹੋਰ ਫਿਰੈ ਘਨੇਰੀ ॥
bin karamā hōr phirai ghanērī .
Without good karma, countless others wander around.
ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਚੁਕੈ ਨ ਫੇਰੀ ॥
mar mar janmai chukai n phērī .
They die, and die again, only to be reborn; they cannot escape the cycle of reincarnation.
ਬਿਖੁ ਕਾ ਰਾਤਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੩॥
bikh kā rātā bikh kamāvai sukh n kabahū pāiā .13.
Imbued with poison, they practice poison and corruption, and they never find peace. ||13||
ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰੇ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ॥
bahutē bhēkh karē bhēkhadhārī .
Many disguise themselves with religious robes.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਮਾਰੀ ॥
bin sabadai haumai kinai n mārī .
Without the Shabad, no one has conquered egotism.
ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਤਾ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੪॥
jīvat marai tā mukat pāē sachai nāi samāiā .14.
One who remains dead while yet alive is liberated, and merges in the True Name. ||14||
ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਇਸੁ ਤਨਹਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥
agiān trisanā is tanah jalāē .
Spiritual ignorance and desire burn this human body.
