ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸਹਜ ਅਨੰਦਾ ॥
satigur sēviai sahaj anandā .
Serving the True Guru, one obtains intuitive bliss.
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਆਇ ਵੁਠਾ ਗੋਵਿੰਦਾ ॥
hiradai āi vuthā gōvindā .
The Lord of the Universe comes to dwell within the heart.
ਸਹਜੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਆਪੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥
sahajē bhagat karē din rātī āpē bhagat karāidā .4.
He intuitively practices devotional worship day and night; God Himself practices devotional worship. ||4||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਤਿਨੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
satigur tē vishurē tinī dukh pāiā .
Those who are separated from the True Guru, suffer in misery.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥
anadin mārīah dukh sabāiā .
Night and day, they are punished, and they suffer in total agony.
ਮਥੇ ਕਾਲੇ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਖ ਹੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥
mathē kālē mahal n pāvah dukh hī vich dukh pāidā .5.
Their faces are blackened, and they do not obtain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. They suffer in sorrow and agony. ||5||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥
satigur sēvah sē vadabhāgī .
Those who serve the True Guru are very fortunate.
ਸਹਜ ਭਾਇ ਸਚੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
sahaj bhāi sachī liv lāgī .
They intuitively enshrine love for the True Lord.
ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸਚੈ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥
sachō sach kamāvah sad hī sachai mēl milāidā .6.
They practice Truth, forever Truth; they are united in Union with the True Lord. ||6||
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਸਚਾ ਦੇਇ ਸੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
jis nō sachā dēi s pāē .
He alone obtains the Truth, unto whom the True Lord gives it.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥
antar sāch bharam chukāē .
His inner being is filled with Truth, and his doubt is dispelled.
ਸਚੁ ਸਚੈ ਕਾ ਆਪੇ ਦਾਤਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥
sach sachai kā āpē dātā jis dēvai sō sach pāidā .7.
The True Lord Himself is the Giver of Truth; he alone obtains the Truth, unto whom He gives it. ||7||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਸੋਈ ॥
āpē karatā sabhanā kā sōī .
He Himself is the Creator of all.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
jis nō āp bujhāē būjhai kōī .
Only one whom He instructs, understands Him.
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥
āpē bakhasē dē vadiāī āpē mēl milāidā .8.
He Himself forgives, and grants glorious greatness. He himself unites in His Union. ||8||
ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਦਿਆ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
haumai karadiā janam gavāiā .
Acting egotistically, one loses his life.
ਆਗੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਨ ਚੂਕੈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
āgai mōh n chūkai māiā .
Even in the world hereafter, emotioal attachment to Maya does not leave him.
ਅਗੈ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਲੇਖਾ ਲੇਵੈ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਲ ਘਾਣੀ ਪੀੜਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥
agai jamakāl lēkhā lēvai jiu til ghānī pīrāidā .9.
In the world hereafter, the Messenger of Death calls him to account, and crushes him like sesame seeds in the oil-press. ||9||
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਹੋਈ ॥
pūrai bhāg gur sēvā hōī .
By perfect destiny, one serves the Guru.
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਸੇਵੇ ਕੋਈ ॥
nadar karē tā sēvē kōī .
If God grants His Grace, then one serves.
ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਮਹਲਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥
jamakāl tis nēr n āvai mahal sachai sukh pāidā .10.
The Messenger of Death cannot even approach him, and in the Mansion of the True Lord's Presence, he finds peace. ||10||
ਤਿਨ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਏ ॥
tin sukh pāiā jō tudh bhāē .
They alone find peace, who are pleasing to Your Will.
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਏ ॥
pūrai bhāg gur sēvā lāē .
By perfect destiny, they are attached to the Guru's service.
ਤੇਰੈ ਹਥਿ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥
tērai hath hai sabh vadiāī jis dēvah sō pāidā .11.
All glorious greatness rests in Your Hands; he alone obtains it, unto whom You give it. ||11||
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇ ਪਾਏ ॥
andar paragās gurū tē pāē .
Through the Guru, one's inner being is enlightened and illumined.
ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
nām padārath mann vasāē .
The wealth of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to dwell in the mind.
ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਗਵਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥
giān ratan sadā ghat chānan agiān andhēr gavāidā .12.
The jewel of spiritual wisdom ever illumines the heart, and the darkness of spiritual ignorance is dispelled. ||12||
ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
agiānī andhē dūjai lāgē .
The blind and ignorant are attached to duality.
ਬਿਨੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਡੁਬਿ ਮੂਏ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥
bin pānī dub mūē abhāgē .
The unfortunates are drowned without water, and die.
ਚਲਦਿਆ ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥
chaladiā ghar dar nadar n āvai jam dar bādhā dukh pāidā .13.
When they depart from the world, they do not find the Lord's door and home; bound and gagged at Death's door, they suffer in pain. ||13||
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
bin satigur sēvē mukat n hōī .
Without serving the True Guru, no one finds liberation.
ਗਿਆਨੀ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
giānī dhiānī pūshah kōī .
Go ask any spiritual teacher or meditator.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥
satigur sēvē tis milai vadiāī dar sachai sōbhā pāidā .14.
Whoever serves the True Guru is blessed with glorious greatness, and honored in the Court of the True Lord. ||14||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨੋ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
satigur nō sēvē tis āp milāē .
One who serves the True Guru, the Lord merges into Himself.
ਮਮਤਾ ਕਾਟਿ ਸਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
mamatā kāt sach liv lāē .
Cutting away attachment, one lovingly focuses on the True Lord.
ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਵਣਜਹਿ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਨਾਮੋ ਲਾਹਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥
sadā sach vanajah vāpārī nāmō lāhā pāidā .15.
The merchants deal forever in Truth; they earn the profit of the Naam. ||15||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ॥
āpē karē karāē karatā .
The Creator Himself acts, and inspires all to act.
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
mārū mahalā 3 .
Maaroo, Third Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਦਾਤਾ ਅਗਮ ਅਥਾਹਾ ॥
har jīu dātā agam athāhā .
The Dear Lord is the Giver, inaccessible and unfathomable.
ਓਸੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਇ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹਾ ॥
ōs til n tamāi vēparavāhā .
He does not have even an iota of greed; He is self-sufficient.
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥
sabad marai sōī jan mukatā .
He alone is liberated, who dies in the Word of the Shabad.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੫॥੧੯॥
nānak nām vasai man antar nāmō nām dhiāidā .16.5.19.
O Nanak, the Naam dwells deep within the mind; meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||16||5||19||
ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਅਪੜਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਈ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥
tis nō apar n sakai kōī āpē mēl milāidā .1.
No one can reach up to Him; He Himself unites in His Union. ||1||
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੁ ਨਿਹਚਉ ਹੋਈ ॥
jō kish karai s nihachau hōī .
Whatever He does, surely comes to pass.
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
tis bin dātā avar n kōī .
There is no other Giver, except for Him.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਾਮ ਦਾਨੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮੇਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥
jis nō nām dān karē sō pāē gur sabadī mēlāidā .2.
Whoever the Lord blesses with His gift, obtains it. Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He unites him with Himself. ||2||
ਚਉਦਹ ਭਵਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਹਟਨਾਲੇ ॥
chaudah bhavan tērē hatanālē .
The fourteen worlds are Your markets.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦਿਖਾਏ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਲੇ ॥
satigur dikhāē antar nālē .
The True Guru reveals them, along with one's inner being.
ਨਾਵੈ ਕਾ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਕੋ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥
nāvai kā vāpārī hōvai gur sabadī kō pāidā .3.
One who deals in the Name, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, obtains it. ||3||
