ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥
gur kai sabad har nām vakhānai .
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he chants the Name of the Lord.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
anadin nām ratā din rātī māiā mōh chukāhā hē .8.
Night and day, he remains imbued with the Naam, day and night; he is rid of emotional attachment to Maya. ||8||
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
gur sēvā tē sabh kish pāē .
Serving the Guru, all things are obtained;
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
haumai mērā āp gavāē .
egotism, possessiveness and self-conceit are taken away.
ਆਪੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਸੋਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
āpē kripā karē sukhadātā gur kai sabadē sōhā hē .9.
The Lord, the Giver of peace Himself grants His Grace; He exalts and adorns with the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||9||
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
gur kā sabad anmrit hai bānī .
The Guru's Shabad is the Ambrosial Bani.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥
anadin har kā nām vakhānī .
Night and day, chant the Name of the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਵਸੈ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੋ ਘਟੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
har har sachā vasai ghat antar sō ghat niramal tāhā hē .10.
That heart becomes immaculate, which is filled with the True Lord, Har, Har. ||10||
ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹਹਿ ॥
sēvak sēvah sabad salāhah .
His servants serve, and praise His Shabad.
ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ॥
sadā rang rātē har gun gāvah .
Imbued forever with the color of His Love, they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਪਰਮਲ ਵਾਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
āpē bakhasē sabad milāē paramal vās man tāhā hē .11.
He Himself forgives, and unites them with the Shabad; the fragrance of sandalwood permeates their minds. ||11||
ਸਬਦੇ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਥੇ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ॥
sabadē akath kathē sālāhē .
Through the Shabad, they speak the Unspoken, and praise the Lord.
ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਚੇ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੇ ॥
mērē prabh sāchē vēparavāhē .
My True Lord God is self-sufficient.
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਸਬਦੈ ਕਾ ਰਸੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
āpē gunadātā sabad milāē sabadai kā ras tāhā hē .12.
The Giver of virtue Himself unites them with the Shabad; they enjoy the sublime essence of the Shabad. ||12||
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਭੂਲਾ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
manamukh bhūlā thaur n pāē .
The confused, self-willed manmukhs find no place of rest.
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
jō dhur likhiā s karam kamāē .
They do those deeds which they are pre-destined to do.
ਬਿਖਿਆ ਰਾਤੇ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਖੋਜੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
bikhiā rātē bikhiā khōjai mar janamai dukh tāhā hē .13.
Imbued with poison, they search out poison, and suffer the pains of death and rebirth. ||13||
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ॥
āpē āp āp sālāhē .
He Himself praises Himself.
ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਮਾਹੇ ॥
tērē gun prabh tujh hī māhē .
Your Glorious Virtues are within You alone, God.
ਤੂ ਆਪਿ ਸਚਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੀ ਆਪੇ ਅਲਖੁ ਅਥਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
tū āp sachā tērī bānī sachī āpē alakh athāhā hē .14.
You Yourself are True, and True is the Word of Your Bani. You Yourself are invisible and unknowable. ||14||
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਦਾਤੇ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
bin gur dātē kōi n pāē .
Without the Guru, the Giver, no one finds the Lord,
ਲਖ ਕੋਟੀ ਜੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
lakh kōtī jē karam kamāē .
though one may make hundreds of thousands and millions of attempts.
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
gur kirapā tē ghat antar vasiā sabadē sach sālāhā hē .15.
By Guru's Grace, He dwells deep within the heart; through the Shabad, praise the True Lord. ||15||
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
mārū mahalā 3 .
Maaroo, Third Mehl:
ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਇਕੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥
mērai prabh sāchai ik khēl rachāiā .
My True Lord God has staged a play.
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਮਿਲੇ ਧੁਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
sē jan milē dhur āp milāē .
They alone meet Him, whom the Lord unites with Himself.
ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਏ ॥
sāchī bānī sabad suhāē .
They are adorned and exalted with the True Word of His Bani, and the Shabad.
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਜੇਹਾ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
kōi n kis hī jēhā upāiā .
He has created no one like anyone else.
ਆਪੇ ਫਰਕੁ ਕਰੇ ਵੇਖਿ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਸਭਿ ਰਸ ਦੇਹੀ ਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
āpē pharak karē vēkh vigasai sabh ras dēhī māhā hē .1.
He made them different, and he gazes upon them with pleasure; he placed all the flavors in the body. ||1||
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਨਿਤ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੪॥੧੩॥
nānak jan gun gāvai nit sāchē gun gāvah gunī samāhā hē .16.4.13.
Servant Nanak continually sings the Glorious Praises of the True Lord; singing His Glories, he is immersed in the Glorious Lord of Virtue. ||16||4||13||
ਵਾਜੈ ਪਉਣੁ ਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਵਜਾਏ ॥
vājai paun tai āp vajāē .
You Yourself vibrate the beat of the breath.
ਸਿਵ ਸਕਤੀ ਦੇਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
siv sakatī dēhī mah pāē .
Shiva and Shakti, energy and matter - You have placed them into the body.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਉਲਟੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
gur parasādī ulatī hōvai giān ratan sabad tāhā hē .2.
By Guru's Grace, one turns away from the world, and attains the jewel of spiritual wisdom, and the Word of the Shabad. ||2||
ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਆਪੇ ਕੀਆ ॥
andhērā chānan āpē kīā .
He Himself created darkness and light.
ਏਕੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਬੀਆ ॥
ēkō varatai avar n bīā .
He alone is pervasive; there is no other at all.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਕਮਲੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਬੁਧਿ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
gur parasādī āp pashānai kamal bigasai budh tāhā hē .3.
One who realizes his own self - by Guru's Grace, the lotus of his mind blossoms forth. ||3||
ਅਪਣੀ ਗਹਣ ਗਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
apanī gahan gat āpē jānai .
Only He Himself knows His depth and extent.
ਹੋਰੁ ਲੋਕੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥
hōr lōk sun sun ākh vakhānai .
Other people can only listen and hear what is spoken and said.
ਗਿਆਨੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਸਾਚੀ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
giānī hōvai s guramukh būjhai sāchī siphat salāhā hē .4.
One who is spiritually wise, understands himself as Gurmukh; he praises the True Lord. ||4||
ਦੇਹੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
dēhī andar vasat apārā .
Deep within the body is the priceless object.
ਆਪੇ ਕਪਟ ਖੁਲਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
āpē kapat khulāvanahārā .
He Himself opens the doors.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
guramukh sahajē anmrit pīvai trisanā agan bujhāhā hē .5.
The Gurmukh intuitively drings in the Ambrosial Nectar, and the fire of desire is quenched. ||5||
ਸਭਿ ਰਸ ਦੇਹੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
sabh ras dēhī andar pāē .
He placed all the flavors within the body.
ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
viralē kau gur sabad bujhāē .
How rare are those who understand, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਅੰਦਰੁ ਖੋਜੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਾਹੇ ਜਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
andar khōjē sabad sālāhē bāhar kāhē jāhā hē .6.
So search within yourself, and praise the Shabad. Why run around outside your self? ||6||
ਵਿਣੁ ਚਾਖੇ ਸਾਦੁ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥
vin chākhē sād kisai n āiā .
Without tasting, no one enjoys the flavor.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆਇਆ ॥
gur kai sabad anmrit pīāiā .
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, one drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀ ਅਮਰਾ ਪਦੁ ਹੋਏ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਸੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
anmrit pī amarā pad hōē gur kai sabad ras tāhā hē .7.
The Ambrosial Nectar is drunk, and the immoral status is obtained, when one obtains the sublime essence of the Guru's Shabad. ||7||
ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸੋ ਸਭਿ ਗੁਣ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
āp pashānai sō sabh gun jānai .
One who realizes himself, knows all virtues.
