ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
āpē mēlē dē vadiāī .
Uniting with Himself, He bestows glorious greatness.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
gur parasādī kīmat pāī .
By Guru's Grace, one comes to know the Lord's worth.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਦੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
manamukh bahut phirai bilalādī dūjai bhāi khuāī hē .3.
The self-willed manmukh wanders everywhere, weeping and wailing; he is utterly ruined by the love of duality. ||3||
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚੇ ਪਾਈ ॥
haumai māiā vichē pāī .
Egotism was instilled into the illusion of Maya.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਲੇ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
manamukh bhūlē pat gavāī .
The self-willed manmukh is deluded, and loses his honor.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਨਾਇ ਰਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੈ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
guramukh hōvai sō nāi rāchai sāchai rahiā samāī hē .4.
But one who becomes Gurmukh is absorbed in the Name; he remains immersed in the True Lord. ||4||
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
gur tē giān nām ratan pāiā .
Spiritual wisdom is obtained from the Guru, along with the jewel of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਮਨਸਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
manasā mār man māh samāiā .
Desires are subdued, and one remains immersed in the mind.
ਆਪੇ ਖੇਲ ਕਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
āpē khēl karē sabh karatā āpē dēi bujhāī hē .5.
The Creator Himself stages all His plays; He Himself bestows understanding. ||5||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
satigur sēvē āp gavāē .
One who serves the True Guru eradicates self-conceit.
ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
mil prītam sabad sukh pāē .
Meeting with his Beloved, he finds peace through the Word of the Shabad.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਤੇ ਬਣਿ ਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
antar piār bhagatī rātā sahaj matē ban āī hē .6.
Deep within his inner being, he is imbued with loving devotion; intuitively, he becomes one with the Lord. ||6||
ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
dūkh nivāran gur tē jātā .
The Destroyer of pain is known through the Guru.
ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
āp miliā jagajīvan dātā .
The Great Giver, the Life of the world, Himself has met me.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਲਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ਭਉ ਭਰਮੁ ਸਰੀਰਹੁ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
jis nō lāē sōī būjhai bhau bharam sarīrah jāī hē .7.
He alone understands, whom the Lord joins with Himself. Fear and doubt are taken away from his body. ||7||
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵੈ ॥
āpē guramukh āpē dēvai .
He Himself is the Gurmukh, and He Himself bestows His blessings.
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੈ ॥
sachai sabad satigur sēvai .
Through the True Word of the Shabad, serve the True Guru.
ਜਰਾ ਜਮੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਬਣਿ ਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
jarā jam tis jōh n sākai sāchē siu ban āī hē .8.
Old age and death cannot even touch one who is in harmony with the True Lord. ||8||
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਜਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
trisanā agan jalai sansārā .
The world is burning up in the fire of desire.
ਜਲਿ ਜਲਿ ਖਪੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
jal jal khapai bahut vikārā .
It burns and burns, and is destroyed in all its corruption.
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਕਬਹੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
manamukh thaur n pāē kabahū satigur būjh bujhāī hē .9.
The self-willed manmukh finds no place of rest anywhere. The True Guru has imparted this understanding. ||9||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥
satigur sēvan sē vadabhāgī .
Those who serve the True Guru are very fortunate.
ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
sāchai nām sadā liv lāgī .
They remain lovingly focused on the True Name forever.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
antar nām raviā nihakēval trisanā sabad bujhāī hē .10.
The Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord, permeates the nucleus of their inner being; through the Shabad, their desires are quenched. ||10||
ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚੀ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
sachā sabad sachī hai bānī .
True is the Word of the Shabad, and True is the Bani of His Word.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਕਿਨੈ ਪਛਾਣੀ ॥
guramukh viralai kinai pashānī .
How rare is that Gurmukh who realizes this.
ਸਚੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ਰਹਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
sachē sabad ratē bairāgī āvan jān rahāī hē .11.
Those who are imbued with the True Shabad are detached. Their comings and goings in reincarnation are ended. ||11||
ਸਬਦੁ ਬੁਝੈ ਸੋ ਮੈਲੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥
sabad bujhai sō mail chukāē .
One who realizes the Shabad is cleansed of impurities.
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਏ ॥
niramal nām vasai man āē .
The Immaculate Naam abides within his mind.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
satigur apanā sad hī sēvah haumai vichah jāī hē .12.
He serves his True Guru forever, and egotism is eradicated from within. ||12||
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਾ ਦਰੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
gur tē būjhai tā dar sūjhai .
If one comes to understand, through the Guru, then he comes to know the Lord's Door.
ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣਾ ਕਥਿ ਕਥਿ ਲੂਝੈ ॥
nām vihūnā kath kath lūjhai .
But without the Naam, one babbles and argues in vain.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੂਖ ਗਵਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
satigur sēvē kī vadiāī trisanā bhūkh gavāī hē .13.
The glory of serving the True Guru is that it eradicates hunger and thirst. ||13||
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
āpē āp milai tā būjhai .
When the Lord unites them with Himself, then they come to understand.
ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਹੂਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
giān vihūnā kishū n sūjhai .
Without spiritual wisdom, they understand nothing at all.
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
gur kī dāt sadā man antar bānī sabad vajāī hē .14.
One whose mind is filled with the Guru's gift forever - his inner being resounds with the Shabad, and the Word of the Guru's Bani. ||14||
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥
jō dhur likhiā s karam kamāiā .
He acts according to his pre-ordained destiny.
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ॥
kōi n mētai dhur phuramāiā .
No one can erase the Command of the Primal Lord.
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਵਾਸਾ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
satasangat mah tin hī vāsā jin kau dhur likh pāī hē .15.
They alone dwell in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, who have such pre-ordained destiny. ||15||

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਅਪਣੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ॥
apanī nadar karē sō pāē .
He alone finds the Lord, unto whom He grants His Grace.
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
sachai sabad tārī chit lāē .
He links his consciousness to the deep meditative state of the True Shabad.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਭੀਖਿਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਰਿ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੧॥
nānak dās kahai bēnantī bhīkhiā nām dar pāī hē .16.1.
Nanak, Your slave, offers this humble prayer; I stand at Your Door, begging for Your Name. ||16||1||
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ॥
hukamī sahajē srisat upāī .
By the Hukam of His Command, He effortlessly created the Universe.
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਅਪਣੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
kar kar vēkhai apanī vadiāī .
Creating the creation, He gazes upon His own greatness.
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
āpē karē karāē āpē hukamē rahiā samāī hē .1.
He Himself acts, and inspires all to act; in His Will, He pervades and permeates all. ||1||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ॥
māiā mōh jagat gubārā .
The world is in the darkness of love and attachment to Maya.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
guramukh būjhai kō vīchārā .
How rare is that Gurmukh who contemplates, and understands.
ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
āpē nadar karē sō pāē āpē mēl milāī hē .2.
He alone attains the Lord, unto whom He grants His Grace. He Himself unites in His Union. ||2||
